First off thank you to Your service as well as your Father's service.
My Great Grandfather served in WWII and i just found his Service jacket and he has a few ribbons on it, but I am still looking for the medals themselves.
I will look into this and see if i cant get replacement medals, thank you for the great video.
Thank you for watching. All the information you need is on line. In fact I just recently mailed a form to the Army requesting dog-tags for a man I know who served in Viet Nam, and is disabled. Keep in touch. Pax.
LIfe in Norway is pretty good. Where I live, a small town called Lillehammer, there is lots of snow at the moment. Probably around 1,5 metres or about 5 feet.
I got this idea. Why not make a video about your career, what type of work do you do? And do you remember the very first job you ever had? Something like that, just a suggestion.
You mentioned your father not being a hero, and I don't know what the nature of your relationship with your father was, but he was a hero. He served this country in WW2. Hero. Period. Thank you, and thank your father.
Wow that is CooL Sam! Good for you. I have some from my service which covered, Viet Nam, Desert Storm & Southren Watch.
If you can go to a Military base the Exchange or one the stores sells a shadow box. They mount the metals in the box with a flag. It real nice.. Also when my Dad passed we had the Army fly a flag in his honor then fold it and sent it to me.
Having served with Bruce Willis' father Walken returns from war to give the young child Willis a watch which his father had kept for him. He sits down and gives a monologue about the ordeal of getting the watch to him. The story grabs your attention.
Sam, since the Civil War 3448 men have received the Medal of Honor. Only 17 from the Air Force, 4 in the Korean War and 13 in Viet Nam. Last month on June 5th Ross McGinnis was the newest recipitent of the Medal of Honor. Also it is illegal to sell a Medal of Honor.
Sam I looked for my comment on here from yesterday and I guess it's floating around in cyperspace somewhere.lol First of all thank you for the nice intro (blushing). Hope someone sees this video and it inspires them to get their fathers medals back. I also thought you may want to get a shadowbox and display the medals with a pic of your Dad and hang it on the wall for all to see. Might make a nice heirloom piece to hand down to little Landon. As always, take care my friend.
Wayne, I have them hanging on a shelf right now but the shadowbox is a good idea. I did get a comment from some one who said they were going to get his own Father's medals.
Great! Sam if just one person gets their Dads medals from watching this video it was all well worth the time and effort you put into making it. But I'm sure more will follow.
Great story. I know in Australia they've been really harsh with handing out medals until quite recently. A lot was asked of these people, and it seems a very simple way to say thankyou from the nation.
We use the British system which seems to be a lot more reluctant to give out medals than the American one. The government however seems to be realising that it's not quite the right approach. However, it still takes a lot of campaigning for new medals to come about or for some people to get the recognition they have earned. Of course, this is all reflected in your story as well. Much respect for your perserverence.
It is interesting to note then in American history there have been nineteen men that have won the Medal of Honor twice! This includes Thomas Custer the younger brother Gen. George Custer of Civil War, and the little big horn.
Oh interesting! That medal is the equivalent to our (and all British Commonwealth countries) Victoria Cross. That one has only been awarded twice to three people.
Haha - I know where to find the details of history quickly when I need to!
I figure it's good to know the framework of things in my head, and then know where to find the exact answers. It's right there on my channel page - 'Life is an open book test'.
Great story. In the back of my house I have pictures of myself (gulf war), my dad (vietnam) and my Grandfather (ww2). I have the medals for my dad and I but not my grandfathers. I will write them as well.
Great story for the 4th!! I like your interest in your family history ,and history in general. It is good to have an appreciation for where we come from ,and how we got here:)

Thanks very much for this. The reminder is always important: their sacrifices made possible the freedom my generation takes for granted. Thank you.
And your cat is just like mine: she'll sit and "help" me read the paper for hours...just so long as she gets ample belly "scratchies" =^^=
