Not many world leaders (or government whips) would get away with wearing their High School ties - Even if they did go to Eton. The other regimental tie FU wore was the maroon and Blue household Guards tie.
This is a beautiful scene. Notice how every line, almost every word, is linked to some physical movement, culminating in 'poor..bastard' as he shakes the water from his (washed) hands. It's all meticulously blocked and performed with consummate panache.
Since when were oscars linked to good acting... more like, how much they can pull in at the box office. Ian Richardson would have blown hollywood out of the water and shown it up for the self back-slapping club that it is.
@ThyBrad Yes FU is magnificent but I have to disagree with "greatest character in the history of television" - that honour belongs to the great Carroll Oconnor/Archie Bunker (imo anyway!) :)
What an incredible performance by Ian Richardson in this series.

Sheer brilliance! F U is deliciously evil. We should hate ourselves for liking him so.

My favorite british drama / play of all time. I never read any of the reviews of it, but one could see the Shakesparian quality to everything.

Don't worry, every politician I look at these days is a version of FU ... they all show us the middle finger, saying silently "FU"

The thing I love about the House of Cards Triology is when FU talks to the audience you really feel that the two of you are in this together.
