  • The groove is the best part :-)

  • i didnt know stephen colbert was in steely dan

  • Timeless...love the jazz-rock fusion.

  • Those who say they love this but don't listen to that "rap crap" are being as ignorant as the people they despise. To categorise music in genres the way you do, misses the whole point of music in the first place.

If you're reading this, and you have an open mind, then I would recommend trying to ignore the IMAGE of Kanye West and focus on the MUSIC of Kanye West. He really is a talented producer.

Anyway this song is fucking awesome. Thanks for the upload.

  • @PatentsOG I respect your opinion, but I think Kanye is revolutionizing the music industry today. Give it another try and listen to his message and maybe you'll have a different opinion

  • is Purdie playing drums here?

  • @bigbambo0m Ricky Lawson.......

  • fuck anyone who does'nt like this badass jam, dont listen to it you picked it fuck head not to talk shit

  • AWESOME.

  • The guitarist at 2:25 looks like Stephen Colbert.

  • Anything but Larry Carlton's solo note-for-note sounds wrong.

  • @PatentsOG alright im tired of getting emails about people commentating at me with hateful shit its a YouTube comment, going to start blocking anyone who doesnt have something nice to say thanks.

  • Pivotal song moment:

"Is there gas in the car?"

"Yes there's gas in the car!"

"I think the people down the hall know who you are!"

  • I want to shout out to Don deBrauwere, he played with SD and so many, Get Well Soon Don!

  • Dan are the BEST!

  • Smokin all the way!

  • kanye west champion

  • @newera623 is a sad excuse of a ripoff. sampling lost any claim to being an "art" long ago.

  • Rap is good, Steely Dan is good...

  • Good stuff, that was great lead breaking who was that guy.?

He looks like the guy from the Band Altered images.

Who ever he was he played great and his guitar sounded wild grunty.

Everybody looked like they were enjoying themselves too.

  • donald fagan is such a musical genius

  • Sick ass groove.

  • Go Ron Paul 2012!

  • Umphrey's Mcgee.......the REAL musicians of today. Check them out and try to disagree. I have seen 60 year-old men and women at their shows raging even harder than my 25 year-old friends and I. They do a mean cover of Steely Dan, who I feel is by far one of the best bands ever to walk this earth.

  • GRANDE GRANDE GRANDE !!!!

  • yeah! thats how to set a place on fire.

  • thats music friends!

  • Questa qui da 40 anni è tra le migliori live band del pianeta Terra

  • sooooo much talent!

  • Really nice guitar solo,J Herrington!

  • These guys sound great sampled.

  • Cool version Donald Fagen's voice sounds just as good live! The back-up singers need more confidence to belt it out , tell those girls to let it go. Listen to the original recording those back-up singers are like lead singers and they really let it go and belt it out.

  • "Life can be very strange" : ))))) Love Steely Dan!!!

  • Who's the bassist? Looks like Victor Bailey, but I don't think it is.

  • @mikeyspoon That's Tom Barney on bass.

  • MAN

  • im sorry but kids today do not know music! i have no problem admiting i was one of the rap crap fags but after being turned on to steely dan and others like them by my father, i can honestly say ill be damned if i ever put a rap song on again

  • @PatentsOG Father knows best.

  • @u2bbbbbb you've got that right, dont know where id be today if not for my father

  • @PatentsOG then you must only listen to jayz and kanye. go listen to mos def, pharoeh munch, q tip or any rap artist that makes funk and jzz fusion and i think your opinion will change

  • @franciscomendonca8 actually i used to listen to combos, i was never much for jay z but i was into some of the newer age, the majority of the time i listened to aesop rock mos def,etc i wasnt throwing all rap into the gutter mostly just new age with everything its always the same OLD BEATS NEW

  • @franciscomendonca8 well actually i guess i kind of was throwing all rap into the gutter, my apologies

  • @PatentsOG thanks for your honesty !!!!!

  • @PatentsOG Glad to see you had your eyes (and ears) opened to real music played by...OMG....real musicians! 8^D

  • @PatentsOG

Jeez you went straight from musically clueless to musical snob in one jump. You just can't help but be a prick can you.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrThisplaceisweird eh i wont even waste my time, checked out your channel history, your last 5 or so comments have been giving whoever was on the other end a hard time, stick to your sorcerer online computer games and stop trying to be an internet badass

  • @MrThisplaceisweird Hoy you! That's my friend you're talking to and if he wants to be musically clueless one minute and a musical knob the next, far be it from him to not be and even further from you to admonish him for doing so. Understand? You keep on like that and I shall be obliged to come round and give you a slap. And another thing, he certainly can help being a prick and he has me to help him when he can't.

  • @PatentsOG

    Not all rap is bad.

  • @PatentsOG

I'm one of kids today but I love Steely Dan and this song.

    Rap...I don't listen.

I found their CDs at a used CD shop by chance.

Such chance would not appear in the future :)

  • @PatentsOG just because steely dan is the shit doesn't mean that there isn't good rap music out there.

  • @PatentsOG True...honest comment bro!

  • @PatentsOG I can relate, but I say, don't give up on any genre of music. If you enjoyed it once, you will enjoy it again. Go play some classic rap and you'll see that it isn't terrible. You will still love it. You have room in you for love of Steely Dan and other classic guitar rock, as well as hiphop, jazz, metal or anything else that's quality.

  • @PatentsOG Well that's pretty damned ignorant.

THESE APPLES DON'T TASTE LIKE ORANGES

    WAAAH

  • Check out some independent hip hop, not the shit the record labels push down the throats of the masses .

  • @PatentsOG You obviously DON'T know music if you're just going to write off an entire genre like that.

  • @PatentsOG respect all genres of music

  • Larry's solo was great, but I guarantee you he didn't get in one take, given what a taskmaster Fagan was in the studio. Herrington is the bomb.

  • I respect how the guitarist did his own thing, but Larry Carlton's solo can never be topped. Just superior timing and tone.

  • Brilliant! And even the piano playing the rhythm guitar score fits in surprisingly well.

  • grandeeeeee!!!!

  • Love the little horn licks. It takes the music up a notch. Great Sound!!!

  • Great sound quality as everyone was spot on. Fagan and the ladies are soooo good together and very tasteful horns, too.......man, what a show!

"Is there gas in the car??? Yes, there's gas in the carrrrr!!!.... I think the people down the hall know who you are....

    Thanx for uploading this.

  • wow.. this is fabulous.. what a band.. fantastic guitar playing..

  • Great story about this song on Wikipedia it expalins alot of the lyrics

  • the lucky people in this video just witnessed the Dan performing absolute perfection--- what a classic video-- absolutely timeless

  • kanye!

  • Herington does a flawless original guitar break, he's not copping Carlton.

  • When my dad was younger(he's currently 50), he was in a bar with some friends and random people and Steely Dan jammed for them for the whole day. Man my dad is one lucky bastard.

  • Amazing guitar solo!

  • @lightmyfire55

I know! Who knew Colbert could shred like this??

    :)

  • @lightmyfire55 Great solo...but it pales in comparison.

  • I've always had a special place in my heart for the music of Steely Dan. I also like every song they've ever done. They are an awesome studio production.

  • I feel sorry for that guitar player. You can't make that solo your own bud... it's owned by Carlton - might as well play it like he did. Outside of that, great performance! Great song from a great album.

  • @jhetta22

Yes there's gas in the car!

  • Talented and gifted one offs and so glad they were in my time, I feel privileged!!!

  • I just imagine Kanye sitting in his million dollar villa listening to this and nodding his head, "hmm dope track"

  • This is the best band ever, thats from Britain(Wales)

  • Another woman at 3:47 sitting between 2 guys.

  • Who the heck is that lead guitarist/ He smokes! He's so oily in his fingering. Guys like him are the reason I sell windows for a living.

  • @bonefishjimmy - Jon Herrington, isn't he fantastic?!

  • Comment removed

  • one of the best bands ever

  • interesting that Steely Dan tunes aren't covered much,,,,,,

  • all background singers in the world act the same

  • @gopackers9995 What do you expect? Breakdance? ;)

  • @tubenmarkus actually, i have to admit that'd be pretty awesome

  • great post

  • this song was done as an encore when i saw them in august and this is my favorite song by them and im 18 years old, nobody else i know likes em as much as i do but that show in august and rush in april are by far the greatest shows ive seen

  • I don't understand why people always say women don't like Steely Dan.There are women sitting in that audience who look like they 're having a good time, including the woman dancing in her seat at 2:40.

  • @catperson73 That's one of the backup singers!

  • @1f3d1n No,her face doesn't look like Vicky Cave, and she certainly doesn't look like the other two. Whatever...I still saw another woman in the audience happy and moving along to the music. So,technically I'm not wrong.

  • awesome dancing dude at 1:25 ! :D

  • He looks retarded--but i'll take the black back up singer--she has the perfect lips for a nice blow job

  • R.I.P OWSLEY

  • RICKY LAWSON... you baaaaad maaaaaaaan! ooooooh eeee!

  • My all time fav of this great band!

  • how can the audience just stand there??? i'd be raging this

  • Wow, just freakin awesome

  • Just got out of the AUCKLAND NZ gig with the Steve Winwood band 11/06/11 What a treat. Took my 9 year old son which was a challenge for him but great exposure to some world class musicians. That Dan band were one oiled machine. Brilliant, so tight but loose at the same time. Bucket list ticked twice. Saw them in San Fran in 93ish. They were brilliant there to although that gig was aided self medicated foolduggery.

  • @ristrito

Yeah, i saw them in wellington with my dad, then he went and saw them in auckland. Great concert wasn't it? My dad went and saw them in 06 in LA twice (not thinking they would ever come to New Zealand) and announced a New Zealand tour 1 month afterwards haha. I thought the concert was amazing in welly, but he said it was nothing compared to LA

  • Timeless!

  • lmao guy at 1:26

  • Tom Barney is a badass bass player!

  • WHO THE FUCK DISLIKE THIS!

  • @tbscrazy12 some bitch from the gas station i used to work at. i was jammin steely dan one day and she comes in buying her shitty beer and what not and says "The Stones were much better than Steely Dan." Fuck you whore, go suck Mick's dick.

  • @infantfinite Shouldn't be selling alcohol to anyone that demented:-)

  • @tbscrazy12 yeah really this song is like "American Folklore," total genius...check out trektotrango at the link below, they have a song called "Area 51" that is very cool!

  • @tbscrazy12

    Thats what I'm saying!!!

  • Seeing Donald and " beck " in concert is very cool . Becker likes to play blues tunes on breaks . What great guys !

  • That guy grooving at 1:25 is awesome! :)

  • True musos have grown up with them, my kids are into them too....

  • Champion

  • People said the Earth was the centre of the universe - they were wrong.

People said nothing can exceed the speed of light - now they're not so sure.

Only one thing we can sure of - nobody makes better music than Steely Dan.

  • Música é alegria, bom astral, cumplicidade...

STEELY DAN passa tudo isso pra gente.

Sorriso no rosto e boa semana a todos!!!

  • who is playing bass on this date.. so tasty! i recognize ricky lawson on drums (of michael jackson's band, yellowjackets, etc.)

  • awesome!

  • Is there any live DVD besides this one? This one has very negative reviews on Amazon.

  • I just cannot get over how great they did this live.. excellent job...

  • bad asss tune...84 dislikes??? no soul i guess

  • It seems like beefman got cut from the band... Beefman certainly has a "beef" with them.

  • They were fantastic

  • Great !!!!!!! I saw them at the Taft Theater in Cincinnati, OH

  • I really listened to the bass part for the first time. Wow!

  • Whats with the crowd? If i were there Id tear that room up!

  • @Shooters141 I'll simply ask for an apology. And please, can I have my money back - from watching this horrendous exploration of offkey/missed notes (especially the 3rd rate hack holding the guitar(s). Thanks in advance!!!

  • Seeing them in Boston tonight. They are doing the Royal Scam. Can't wait!!!

  • Sublime.

  • Saw Larry Carlton last night in Nashville TN. Larry played guitar on the original track. Rolling stones says it is the 3rd best fushion jazz performance by Larry Carlton

  • wow I haven't seen such an idiot as beefman in a long time. Herrington is a genius guitarist. It is hard to see how someone could get it so wrong...

  • You can't play this solo without doing your own version like JH....I can't.....LOL
