Awesome sound. Back in the day, I owned a GT then a Cobra that I put Flowmasters on--loud, but a little too bass-y and muffled for what I enjoy hearing for the "Mustang Sound" --idling and low rpm sounded ok, but higher revs lost that rasp I like. Seems Roush keeps a little of that "throatiness" that makes Mustangs sound great at any rpm.

Is this only the Roush cat-back system that makes this sound so good?

as long as your exhaust has cats on it, it will pass here in tx. as far as a simple cat back that will easily pass. i have a 98 ls1 trans am with longtube headers and fake cats with a cat back and i passed

I needed a new car right then. I test drove a Challenger and rented a Camaro. Both were below the Mustang to be for daily driving. I wasnt going to wait a year for a mystery engine that for has not committed to saying is real. Besides the aftermarket is huge for the 4.6L.

Drone is subject to what you notice or can handle. I notice that around 2000 RPM with the 3.55 gears I do have some drone. Its mainly at lower speeds that it resonates a bit. Im going to put down some Dynomat in the trunk to minimize it a bit. But it dosnt really bother me.

it is emissions legal as it it is cat back and wont change anything in that regard. They call it off road as a liability thing. Only problem you may have with this exhaust is if you have very strict noise laws and your romping on it all the time.

Its a little louder. With the Air Conditioning on and the windows up its not very noticeable till you get on the gas. Any aftermarket exhaust upgrade is going to be louder. Some mufflers might have a slight drone at highway speeds. This kit has a slight drone around 70, but thats with me trying to listen for it and AC and radio off.

Any exhaust change is going to be louder then stock. To me, the stock sound was not noticeable enough. The Roush exhaust is more open then a muffler as it uses resonators instead, and then open pipe to the tail after the resonators. If you dont want too loud of a car, the Borla or Magnaflows might be your ticket. Easier to install also.
