A 747-400 has six million parts, half of which are fasteners. A 747-400 has 171 miles (274 km) of wiring and 5 miles (8 km) of tubing. A 747-400 consists of 147,000 pounds (66,150 kg) of high-strength aluminum. The 747-400 has 16 main landing gear tires and two nose landing gear tires. The 747-400 tail height is 63 feet 8 inches (19.4 m), equivalent to a six-story building...
Fuel The 747-400ER can carry more than 63,500 gallons of fuel (240,370 L), making it possible to fly extremely long routes, such as Los Angeles to Melbourne, Australia. A 747-400 that flies 3,500 statute miles (5,630 km) and carries 126,000 pounds (56,700 kg) of fuel will consume an average of five gallons (19 L) per mile. The 747-400 carries 3,300 gallons (12,490 L) of fuel in the horizontal (tail) stabilizer, allowing it to fly an additional 350 nautical miles.......
I really have to say that this is one of my favorite YouTube videos of a Boeing 747 taking off and flying above clouds. Wow @dgl1962 I think it is pretty interesting how one engine of an 747 burns 15 gallons of fuel per minute.
The guy filming the engine is thinking....."wow, that thing could surely make some monster margaritas!" The blonde stewardess walks by the engine thinking...."big deal, that engine's got nothing over ME!"
I believe the fuel it uses for a whole flight (of 12 hours) is enough to power the average family car 12,000 miles per year; for 300 years! The amount of fuel burned just getting to takeoff position 1 from the gate (at Hong Kong for example) in a 777-300 LR is about 850 pounds of jet fuel without waiting! Thats enough to power a 1300cc car for much more than a year, and that is just taxiing.
Ahhh, I LOVE flying!!! This is the only way I can see it anymore! Views from the UK over the North Sea, Holland, Belgium and Germany were fantastic and over the Isle of Man over to Northern Ireland. I remember them now decades on. Fantastic!! Safer than riding a bus or train!! Definately than driving on motorways etc!
@neverboardproduction The wings suppose to flex, if it does not flex, the wings will break apart, therefore as long the wings are flexing then that's a good sign the plane will not fall out of the sky.
@dgl1962 A plane is 15 gal/min, but theres 400 passengers, so its .0375g/p/h. A car is like a gallon a minute on the highway, if not more. For 4 passengers, thats .25g/p/h. .25 > .0375
@lowball420 You've been watching too much leftwing TV, Exxon for example makes about 2 cents per gallon profit, but the average taxes on a gallon going to the government are 48 cents.
those seats look like awesome seats for this video taping - i too, had similar seats in af 747-400, where the filming was awesome!! nice video, i love it!
and to think the 'bs' of those who say that "videotaping take off and landings of airplanes, make a higher risk of electronic failures on airplanes, thus, more likleyhood of accidents and or crashes" etc... is NOT true...... cause a videocam is 'taking in' 'action'- whereas, a mobile phone DOES GIVE OUT 'RAYS' {lack of better word, couldnt think of the best word etc...} all one has to do is, place yr mobile infront of your computer speaker... Don't be scared. Statistics show that you have more chances of dying driving to and from the airport. Not to scare you more. I love flying and I'm not scared.
One thing is certain about air travel: If the plane doesn't take you to your destined airport, it will definitely take you all the way to the crash site.
when it takes off im so scaed, i feel very bad, i feel like dieing :( i dont like airplanes , next week i have a flight and im scare :'( its boeing 747 too, but it is 40 years old airplane :'( :'(
@shadmehr2008 Don't worry. Whenever I feel like that when I'm already in a plane, I think of the most dangerous thing there is about flying: The way to the airport. ;-)
@shadmehr2008 Get this through your head. 747's don't crash. Let me repeat that again. 747's don't crash. If you're shot down, like the other 747's, you'll never know what hit you. Enjoy the view out the window and enjoy the power of the takeoff and the view of the landing. And if you see an old man behind at the helm, just remember he had his ass shot at while flying in wars. So relax, have fun, enjoy the turbulence, and get back to us after you "survive!"
@vuurwerkf4n Thanks dave, but my life is so shitty that it doesnt matter to me if it crashes, you know what i say,at least its not a suicide,thanks very much :)
@shadmehr2008 Man, when I watch this video, it makes me feel even more scared of flying and I have a long flight to Asia from Canada coming February 2012. I don't know if I can do it.
@shadmehr2008 Haha, ya. I thought airplanes were really scary at first. Then I found out you have more of a chance of dying from walking on the sidewalk or going to the airport, then on the plane. Also, more people die each year from Donkeys then plane crashers. AND, more car accidents happen per day then plane crashers per year. Planes = The safest method of transportation.
@shadmehr2008 I was scared to fly with airplanes too. But believe it or not, after I heard a BA 777-236ER take off with Rolls Royce Trent 800 on full thrust, I began to wonder how can an engine using giant fan as thrust source fly a 600 tonnes aircraft and sounds so epic. I studied aviation afterwards, I'm now an aviation nerd and I'm risking anything so I can fly with airplanes on long holidays no matter what.
This is an excellent video. Exactly how most of us passengers feel and see the flight. I so wish I had become a pilot in my life. What an exciting thing it must be to command a machine like this!
But to everyone else, I will tell what is quiet is the new 7478i I had one come in for a landing right over my head about 100 feet at KBFI and its amazingly quiet. And it was a amazing thing to see.
@matthmatthmatth What an angry man, calm down please. Having sat on the seat right on the wing of the A380 a few months back coming to South Korea, I can most definitely say it is considerably quieter than a 747 which I have also traveled on many times.
@AMARILLO08 it's an American-made Boeing 747-400 operated by the German airline Lufthansa. It's the second biggest passenger airplane in the world. You're thinking of the European made Airbus A380.
I've watched a few airplane takeoffs now from youtube, and i feel pretty sick... Been in airplanes many times, but always felt sick, and scared because i couldn't hear very well inside an airplane.
every time i fly the engines put me to sleep lol lula by from a plane lol o ps can you really record a take off and or landing on a plane witha digital camera?????????
@idontfkinknow1234 do you know how many gazillion take-off and landing video's there are on the internet? I don't think it affects anything once your seatbelt is on.
I had a small video camera, flat, size of a digital photo camera. I never had a problem in filming, just put the camera at the window and close the window curtain/drawer. Experiment a little bit with distance objects you put in the bottom front of the camera otherwise it will film the sky...
Ha Ha!! Funny how the landing United A319 surpassed the full throttle Lufthansa 747-400 down the runway saying " Eat This ", THEN, 20 seconds later the 747 is like " Oh Yeah, Who's Your Daddy "
Man oh man I love the HUM those babies crank out, imagine the suction at the front, even at the great speed. Of course we are hearing 4 engines, not just the two we can see.
Too much zooming. Should be used sparingly. Keep it on wide angle. I've got a GoPro. Now that would be the camera to have in the cockpit with about 180 degree coverage.

747 miles better than a320, I fly both quite frequently.. for some reason turbulence is never an issue for the 747, the a320 shakes like a rollercoaster
Lol. I was imagining that plane running on a couple of old motorbike engines. I'm curious to know if that buzzing sound was coming from the plane's engines.
@neruni The buzzing sound you're hearing is due to the nature of the fan loading for high bypass turbofan engines, which these engines are. The blades, imparting a huge momentum change per unit area to the surrounding air, exhibit a pressure difference that's nontrivial. The pressure at the front of the blades is much lower than at the back, so this difference must resolve itself at the trailing edge. It's that pressure difference, repeated for each blade, that causes that buzzing sound.
In a way they did Orville Wright lived to see Hiroshima get bombed even, though I'm sure he would have tripped out on how many jets we're flying all commercially today
Mobile Phones/ radio EQ must be switched off, cameras are allowed ;) So you can play with you DS while landing if you want and hear music with your ipod.
Hey don't you know to turn off all electronic equipment during take-off and landing..? ;) Thanx for the upload! I have always thought 747's were the best of the best!
@Dreama40 Wilbur died of typhus in 1912; Orville lived to see his work used in two world wars and lamented it, but he was alive long enough to see the brith of jet-powered flight. 45 years, from ragwings to jet-powered aluminum. At least he got to see that. We'd be nothing without flight, screw TV and game consoles.
@Dreama40 Orville Wright actually lived long enough to see the early jet planes (Wilbur died about 35 years earlier) and he was involved in aviation all his life, so he thought about it a lot lol
@Dreama40 I agree completely, but considering that a similar view could be seen 40 years ago on a Lufthansa 747-100, in the early days of widebodies, it's even more remarkable!
having been on board a 747---its quite something on take-off. Nice plane to ride in(No thanks Airbus- been on yours and this is better). Now imagine (oh do I wish there was videon then!) what it was like on a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser. I travelled some 20,000 miles in Stratocruisers and those big old piston engines on take-off...!!! oh what everyone's missing nowadays!

@scottkan357975343 the engines are fine, and the sound u hear from inside is different from the sound u hear from outside the plane.
argentinamartin 11 months ago
those engines really don't sound good. is it supposed to be like that
scottkan357975343 11 months ago

Great video! I especially like the climb out thru the clouds.
IsagenixDoc 11 months ago
747 miles better than a320, I fly both quite frequently.. for some reason turbulence is never an issue for the 747, the a320 shakes like a rollercoaster

Where's the buzzing sound coming from?
neruni 1 year ago
@neruni Yes I was wondering that too... it sounds like an old motorbike!!! :-)
craig3008 11 months ago
@craig3008
Lol. I was imagining that plane running on a couple of old motorbike engines. I'm curious to know if that buzzing sound was coming from the plane's engines.
neruni 11 months ago
@neruni The buzzing sound you're hearing is due to the nature of the fan loading for high bypass turbofan engines, which these engines are. The blades, imparting a huge momentum change per unit area to the surrounding air, exhibit a pressure difference that's nontrivial. The pressure at the front of the blades is much lower than at the back, so this difference must resolve itself at the trailing edge. It's that pressure difference, repeated for each blade, that causes that buzzing sound.
TheFerruccio 11 months ago
@TheFerruccio Is that the same for a Helicopter?
my235 11 months ago
@my235 I think so. Helicopter blades experience similar loading. Except, with helicopters, you don't have the rotors passing stators.
TheFerruccio 11 months ago
@TheFerruccio Excellent explanation.

In a way they did Orville Wright lived to see Hiroshima get bombed even, though I'm sure he would have tripped out on how many jets we're flying all commercially today

Do the flaps on the 747 retract automatically when the plane reaches a certain air speed?
n310ea 1 year ago
@PlanTonto
Mobile Phones/ radio EQ must be switched off, cameras are allowed ;) So you can play with you DS while landing if you want and hear music with your ipod.
@n310ea
I think they do not, but the instruments show you the level of flaps at a certain speed (e.g. 200 knts) and the pilots retract them manually.

What a noisy piece of shit! A380 i the way forward

Hey don't you know to turn off all electronic equipment during take-off and landing..? ;) Thanx for the upload! I have always thought 747's were the best of the best!

Could you imagine what the wright brothers would think if they could see how far air travel has come since kitty hawk....
Dreama40 1 year ago 84
@Dreama40 I think that quite often :)
Flyglobespan93 1 year ago
@Dreama40 yes they would think air travel has come pretty far
nighthawk0077 1 year ago
@Dreama40 Wilbur died of typhus in 1912; Orville lived to see his work used in two world wars and lamented it, but he was alive long enough to see the brith of jet-powered flight. 45 years, from ragwings to jet-powered aluminum. At least he got to see that. We'd be nothing without flight, screw TV and game consoles.
SenorSpode 1 year ago
@Dreama40 Orville Wright actually lived long enough to see the early jet planes (Wilbur died about 35 years earlier) and he was involved in aviation all his life, so he thought about it a lot lol

@Dreama40 It always amazes me how something so big and heavy can get up in the air at that speed.
MrGenXer 1 year ago
@Dreama40 One of the Wright brothers, and I can't remember which, got to pilot a 707. I thought that was pretty nice.
auburn886 1 year ago
@Dreama40 I agree completely, but considering that a similar view could be seen 40 years ago on a Lufthansa 747-100, in the early days of widebodies, it's even more remarkable!

having been on board a 747---its quite something on take-off. Nice plane to ride in(No thanks Airbus- been on yours and this is better). Now imagine (oh do I wish there was videon then!) what it was like on a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser. I travelled some 20,000 miles in Stratocruisers and those big old piston engines on take-off...!!! oh what everyone's missing nowadays!
