I am going to repeat what chpman2013 said. The civic is not necessarily better than American. Try comparing the new V6 Mustang to the Civic Si. The Mustang is 1000 dollars more base price. It outperforms the civic, gets 19/31 mpg to the civic's 21/29mpg and both get excellent reliability ratings. The Cobalt SS also outperforms the Civic Si although I would not trust its reilability.

I'm huge on chasis tuning and weight reduction, with that in mind, this mustangs power:weight ratio is at about 8.85lbs/1hp with all the sound deadning material. considering I removed about 35lbs off my 94 civic hatch with that stuff I'm certain you can acheive atleast 50lbs on this car bringing it down to 3590lbs or 8.7lbs/1hp.

Kudos to Ford: the V6 sounds amazing - like an Aston Martin V12. I'm a lifelong Mopar guy, but I no longer intend on replacing my current 300C with a Challenger... I now want the Mustang GT Premium with the 302. (I know it's called 5.0, I like "302" better.)
