also if you buying organic vegetables, and some of them have seeds, such as peppers, tomatoes, etc, you can pick seeds and use them in ur garden. do some seeds exchange with neighbours and ask some seeds from botanic gardens. and make own compost and use mulch to keep soil moist. mulch is such as hey, weeds, peanut shells, etc. and if u have fireplace, use a bit of ash as natural fertiliser.
and making a good network group with other local gardeners. Most ppl that work in their yards are trying to save any way they can, trading is one way you can save TONS of cash. Example, I grow LOTS of extra seedling's to trade for manure, tools, pot's, and other plant's I may want (or didn't know I wanted lol) if you use your noggin and put yourself out there with a little time and luck you can garden almost for free. (great topic BTW)
@CanarsieBK lol I was starting to think "man this guy must think I'm wacko with all the comments" ;) I work long hours and have virtually nothing to do so I kill time online until I can get home to work in my own garden. Good to know all my long winded comment's are welcome. =D
Craigslist, AWESOME resource... Freecycle great place I get TONS of supply's for free off that site, Friends and family, can't stress that enough. Just asking if a friend or family member has something could help you and them if they have unwanted supply's or scraps. Compost compost compost! It's virtually free and the best for the garden, all it takes is a tiny bit of effort and time. Cheapcycle is a good site (but not really developed like freecycle) and...
@THEworldisbutaDREAM If they are incorporated and around the food, it means that they are eating it. Have you blended or chopped the scraps down? That helps out a lot. The worms go after broken down food much quicker and easier.
If you put coffee grounds in the plants, does it make the plants caffeinated? I am allergic to caffeine, so I want to avoid that, but my husband drinks a lot of coffee, and I don't want to just throw it all away. Thanks!
area churches and sometimes park districts have community gardens (most are free or very cheap to rent) by us. Great resource and you never know who you're going to meet. Most of the people are friendly and will allow you to borrow tools and are another source of advice when you're out there. Especially handy if you live in an apartment.

@Ivy1534 It will not make the plants caffeinated. It will provide the plants with nutrients to help them thrive.

THEworldisbutaDREAM 1 year ago
@THEworldisbutaDREAM I just dumped the purple kale. Once the new stuff grows, I'm going to get some netting and make row covers.
