god damn that lenny is an amazing singer! APP is only meant for those with unconditionally worldly musical taste...like the caviar of music...whcih is why most people will underrate such amazing progressive music. (and dont expect anything from the youth of today but ignorance and the worst taste...but dont blame them, it is what theyve bin subjected to...lets feel sorry for them cuz theyl never know music they it was meant to be..the way we know growing up in a time of "real" music.
@Dunkleosteus9 I don't think so But I commented on Ammonia avenue which tends to point in that direction. Higher Ground and some others might touch on religion but whether intentional or not they certainly are partners with the all mighty. Eric Woolfson is sorely missed.
I am truly so, so happy to find all of you appreciative alan parsons fans! i didnt know you were out there.. i thought i was the only one besides my dad on plant earth with any sort of brain in their heads to realise how genious and astounding his music is..
This could get boring! I bet this. I bet that! Can anyone believe this rout has been going on for years now? You do not believe me? Okay. But that isn't a default position. It is meant to alter in the face of - er - evidence! Idiots!
I made a beeline for a bloke yesterday who was begging to be avoided. Oh goody I thought and marched pass his alcohol drinking personage. Nowt! Your vision. You Don't Believe Me! I saw it in his eyes too - briefly. lol
You might be concerned about exploiting his work.. but having these posted on you tube, allows me to know if I want to buy the song on ITUNES... I have already bought one song from Alan parsons.. and I am shopping to see if any more of them get my attention,, since I am not overly familiar with their music
Donald F. and Walter B. are back on speaking terms. Davies-Hodgson talked about a reunion in the early 90s but after a bit of work together, they drifted apart again. Hodgson turned up as a writer on Yes's Talk album on a song from that album around that time.
it's an industrial plant (yes, insulated pipelines). but the aim of the picture is to seem similar to the head of a typical seventies japanese cartoon robot... doesn't it?
I agree with everyone here - in the 1980s I thought this might be the best album/CD ever made. I don't say that lightly, either. Musically amazing stuff.
THE BEST SONG FROM THE ALBUM AMMONIA AVENUE !!! Alan parsons project has a thing for producing albums with the strangest yet most interesting concepts
The strange thing about "You Don't Believe" is that, it charted at #54 in the U.S., and it's among the highest-charting singles The Alan Parsons Project ever released, even reaching the Top 15 on the American rock charts, and yet, it never shows up (if not, occasionally) on any "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits" albums...
Somehow I have to wonder if it has something to do with Lenny being absent from most of the albums after "Ammonia Avenue." The line where he says "They're my tunes, but they're your compositions" seems like a dig at Alan. In another post, someone mentioned underrated duos like Becker and Fagen They also have one other thing in common: When they split, it was so venomous they didn't even speak to each other for years; in fact, Davies and Hodgson still aren't on speaking terms after 30 years.
Actually, it did. In fact this song was released on "The Best Of Alan Parsons Project Volume 1" in 1983, a year before this album came out in 1984. This song was completed in between albums, after Eye In The Sky and before Ammonia Avenue, it really never had an album to go on, so they just added to Ammonia Ave the next year.
kind of clever really, people bought the "Best Of" with this song, then bought Ammonia Ave with it too. same song, double profit :D
2008 The Project opened for Asia (the Original) in Clearwater, Florida. Very tight, played the hits, and was cordial during the meet and greet afterward.
AP and Woolfson the 2 most underrated musical geniuses of the 70's-80's. No question. Only folks that come even remotely close to them are Fagen and Becker and Don Henley...
@alanparsonsfan Dude, you're right with your line-up! In my opinion B&F are even more skilled in letting genius sound natural. I've noticed that some musical training definitely helps in appreciating more complex compositions. I haven't listened to APP for a decade or so, started loving progressive house and picked APP up again and am thrilled. Quality always survives.
@TheCoherentSolutions IMHO, AP and Eric are like what B&F might have sounded like without the cynicism and jazz background... How interesting that my 2 favorite groups were each a pair of geniuses who surrounded themselves with expert studio talent varying per album.... Woolfson was about the heart; Fagen was about cool. It is not possible for humans to be as cool as Donald Fagen.
@TXSugarMagnolia Had the privilege of "Catching the Wave" in '76. Every so often I run into a "youngster" who is enthralled by AP. Then they graduate to Pink Floyd, Rick Wakeman & ELP. Amazing how the "old stuff" holds up.
I can never decide which is my favourite APP song....This is such an awesome tune...If I lived in a house I'd blast APP all day long!! What is Zakatek doing these days!?!
I have always envisioned playing this song cranked to just below the earsplitting threshold, while either flying a very fast jet NOE, during a thunderstorm, or redlining a Viper on a flat straitaway..
Great responses to a great Alan Parsons Project song,(aren't they all). You could apply this song to anyone, your boss, your significant other, or like a couple of people noted below here; your own self. I believe this is Lenny Zatatek on vocals here,(who sang Games people play also), and I love his power vocals which contrast to Eric Woolson's softer, more aesthically pleasing vocals. All in all, it adds up to some great, great music and lyrics. APP rocks !!!
I see this song as a verbal self-defense, a sudden and bold assertion by someone who has often been the understudy, often been overlooked, but who is finally coming to terms with the fact that he really has plenty to offer, all on his own, that his gifts and talents are his own, and that these do not actually belong to the self-serving, overpowering individual he is addressing with these haunting words.
Man these guys are awesome!! It sad how little attention they get nowadays. You can't trust for-profit media to expose you to stuff like this, you have to go out and search for it. Thanks YouTube and everyone who enables us to easily find this stuff.
In Hebrew "Ammonia" literally means belief in GOD. Avenue is French for the way or pathway. The pathway to GOD! Eric the writer says it's about Ecology. The title song Ammonia Avenue has a line with something like they came to scouf but stayed to pray.
I am no puppet! No one controls me. How dare you tell me that I have a HIGHER SELF that pulls my strings like a marionette! That 'he' and I are one, the he is me and I him! That every decision that I've ever made has been HIS choice. That MY destiny is HIS fate! No! Wait I'm confused, what is the date? April 19 83..?
listen to the song man, he is saying that he controls his own life and destiny into an image of his own reflection. but still dose not believe it's true.
" and the face i see before me, the both sides of a mirror, you really know you got a hold on me.
and the face your looking into, the both sides of a window. any way you look you see throw me."
if more people did this, i think there would be less puppets in the world, and more people who believe in them selves.
This song is the one I can remember my Grandpa, who sadly passed away when I was 9, jamming to this song. It makes me cry every time I hear it, and I think of him. Thank you for posting it, it keeps him more alive in my heart each time.

Why the title of the song "Ammonia avenue"? What's the meaning?
pacus2006 4 years ago
