I do love the solid, reliable feel of a Glock. I mentioned once before that I'd be more than happy to own one of those older ones over a new one if it were used at a nice price. The durability of those guns, and their readiness to "go to war" makes them hard to turn down.
I have a pre-ban 13 rounder (standard cap. for the g23) and it does the same thing. When you go to release the mag it doesnt fall out by itself. You have to pull it out.
@Dafarnakis I got looking closely at mine. I noticed it was flared out on the front top side of the mag. Took some sandpaper, sanded it down and not a problem since.
Most likely this is due to a worn slide catch, it wares down if you drop/release ur slide with the slide catch as opposed to pulling back on the rear slide serrations.
@Cr0cket20 Lots of gun do that if you slam the mag inside the gun like that. It does it with 1911s, tokarevs, glocks, and pretty much any pistol that you shoot. Some will not do it straight out of the box, but once you break in the springs, it will do it. This is an excellent feature for quick reloads without having to rack the slide.
What happens is, the bullet in the mag brushes up against the slide release and disengages it. Try it with an empty mag and you'll see.
@jkatz44 That usually happens when you use the slide release on an empty chamber, it wears it out, and when you slam the mag or shake the gun violently, it will do that... Hope I helped.
just got a Glock 23 and it turned a month old yesterday.. I think I'll be keeping it for a long time.. I see that slide going forward as more of a feature.. if I am injured and i can still load it by slamming the mag in.. may just save my life. Great vid.
Every Glock I've ever shot will release the slide when I load the magazine hard. I think it's a very nice characteristic! Helps for quick loading. Many police departments even teach their officers to reload that way. Though they still use the slide release just in case it doesn't release on its own.
Larry, I'm just about to post a video of my amateur job of attempting to file the slide. It does seem better, but I have yet to give it the real test and shoot it. If you're interested, feel free to weigh in with expert advice on the vid. Should post it sometime tomorrow.
Either your slide stop lever is worn or the slide notch for the slide stop lever has been rounded out. If your slide stop lever is older, I'd replace that first.
Thanks for the info. I did replace the slide stop lever and have since found out that it is indeed the slide notch. Did some filling, and although not perfect, it seems better. Need to go out and shoot to see how it really performs. Thanks again.
If you have been using your "slide stop lever" as a "slide release" then the notch on your slide my have rounded off a bit causing the slide to release when you slam a mag in. Just a thought. Great gun. I just picked a 3rd gen G23 a few months back.
Lovekicks07, took your advice and focused on the slide notch. Yep. I believe I have corrected the problem (or at least made it better). Need to shoot it and find out for sure though. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

It is normal for a Glock to chamber a round when you slam a magazine into the gun.
