Yes,broad breasted whites are usually fat and ugly, but paying attention to their needs makes them adorable pets with pink faces and pure white feathers. Bronze ones arent as friendly, and mildly unattractive in the face, but they are majestic, wise and better kept in pastures than the white's backyard.
yeah, making tons of shit , utilizing fossil fuels, the strain in occupying a piece of realistate and using tons of grain. Grain that could feed people.

These fat turkey hens will be going in the ovens by the truckloads in just two more months... For those who plan to rescue them, how many will that be? At what cost?
i work at a plant like this and let me tell you it not like this at all except for the barn crowding...we take care of them.....now we cut the heads right off very fast there is no pain.... if the turkey is having a heart attack before the kill line we pet them to make them feel comfortable. but if you dont like this become a vegetarian

It's clear from the beginning of this video it has a biased ARA agenda. Too bad. I would like to see a more up to date video on current trends of heritage turkey raising and keeping backyard flocks that is sweeping the nation. At least the video makes a good argument for buying from modern small farmers or raising and butchering your own. This ensures these beautiful and nutritious animals get the best life, food, care, bonding time with owners and are loved. Nothing tops home grown food.
Lol. I believe you are quite naive. I can present an abundance of facts and photos that show the exact opposite of this video. Are they not then truthful and unbiased? YouTube is not exactly the best resource for learning about how MOST animals are raised and prepared for the table now days. *rolls eyes* Try visiting a farm IRL.

For all you ignorant tree kissers, even the bible says that animals are for our use. Why don't you and your sandal wearing buddies get in s group and bitch to yourselves. This is about the only group that cares. Now I must go sharpen my knives because I have 5 turkeys to kill in the morning.
Of course that animaks are for our own use, but there are also ways to treat them, the fact that they are goin g to be slaughtered doesn't mean that they must live suffering and under deplorable conditions. Have you seen they way cats and dogs are slaughtered in China? their skin is ripped off them when they're still alive> Do you think it is ok to treat them like that buddy? just because they're animals and were created for our consumption?

well geeze, if by human u mean that i should feel sympathy for my thankgiving turkey and ham because they had to be killed to be my food, then no, me and millions of other folks aren't human ^_^
that didn't convince me that it was wrong to eat turkey however. u do realize thanksgiving was a few weeks ago right? millions of turkeys are once agian killed and eaten, and there was nothing u or anyone else could do about it. and whats even funnier, its gonna happen next year to ^_^
How absolutely barbaric! What horrible conditions these animals live and die through. Everything in the poultry/animal agriculture industry is so cruel. Wonderful to know we don't need "meat" to live a very healthy life... Going vegan is better for health, better for the planet and certainly better for the animals - GO VEGAN
You can't set those birds free. They are genetically modified to grow large and fast. IF left past their "processing date" they WILL become crippled. Not being able to move, they can not get to food and water and they will starve. It's not a pleasant death. You can't set those birds free, but you can raise your own and treat them with care.
Yes, they can be set free to live out their days in peace...to not end up being killed "with care"(?)
I have visited many many living past their "processing date". They sure seemed happy to be alive.
How do you feel raising an animal so absurdly modified that it would get so large and crippled that it could not get to food and water? Imagine all the people out there growing large and fast; yet they continue to live past their processing date.
I raise turkeys and chickens. Mine live outside in the grass and sunshine. Just today, while I was harvesting lettuce in my garden, all my turkeys came over and sat next to me while I was picking lettuce. Yes, they are tasty, and our turkeys are made into food for us and our neighbors. But we don't like killing them, and we do it with care. I won't buy store meat anymore. I raise all my own and know my animals get to live a good life in the sunshine, free to roam our pasture.
If you don't like killing them, why do it? People can thrive just fine without eating animal products. You yourself mentioned that they enjoy sitting next you, which shows that they are individuals with feelings who trust you. To kill sentient beings just because they "taste good," or to preserve tradition isn't a good enough reason.
TheUnsilenced: How about the tradition of humans being omnivores? I myself am an occasional vegan (struggling), but I'm not so blind as to see that life eats life. You can't get away from that basic fact.
MyceliaProductions42: I realize that all life eats other life (although not always sentient life), and while I believe that humans are omnivores, I don't take that to meaning that we MUST consume animal products in order to survive, but that our bodies have evolved to be able to consume either plant or animal nutrition (thus we have a flexible digestive system). To be omnivorous does not mean we are obligated to consume animal products.
While humans are able to survive on an all-plant diet (providing such resources are plentiful, as they are in "modernized" societies), other animals, such as carnivores and herbivores (or omnivorous animals whose food options are restricted to whatever they can find), are obligated to their diets, of which their bodies are exclusively designed. Since people can be vegan without comprising our health (unless resources are scarce), why harm sentient beings when we don't have to?
Well-put. Some say that veganism is a sign of a more-evolved civilization. That could be. And I have been quite impressed with the research showing that a vegan lifestyle is much better in terms of immune system, etc.
I have been fortunate to share my life with a turkey. They aren't dumb as people speculate. Each one has a distinct personality and enjoy being cuddled as much as a dog or cat. Please help spare a turkey's life. Rescue a commercial turkey or donate to rescue groups. Go vegan and save animals everywhere!
What if you adopt a turkey just to get a free meal?

Nature is cruel.
Not everything said was true. The white turkeys were developed as they were found to be healthier than the dark feathered ones.
Were we not so blessed with plentiful and cheap food, noone would care about how we were able to get food.
In the wild, more than half birds do not live. In commercial settings, less than 10%.
I am grateful that I live in the world where I do not go hungry.
