im joining the AAC dont start basic untill march though, want to do ground crew for 4 years then do the doorgunners traing, is there any advice any one from the AAC can give me please ?
I was told by a guy in the Army that being ground crew was shit, but I wanted to go ahead and do it anyway and become a pilot, not long after, I found out that I wasn't eligible due to colour-blindness, so I never bothered going any further than Glencourse, and I'm now in the application process for the RAF.
If I was eligible for aircrew I would have gone ahead with it, but it wouldn't be worth me being groundcrew all my life.
To my knowledge you can't become a pilot if you have any colour blindness, I was under the impression that you couldn't even get a private license let alone in the forces
No, the FAA, AAC & RAF have a weird thing about colour blindness; they can admit someone on the basis of being partially colour blind and doing further tests.
As for being totally colour blind a person can still become a private or commercial pilot - there's no discrimination as far as civvy street is concerned.
Oh, my teacher said he wanted to be a pilot, I thought civy but maybe not, but he was red-green colour blind so couldn't be one, don't know what he was going for then
It doesn't matter on civvy street. Obviously if you have really bad vision though then you may not qualify to pass your medical; or if you just see grey, black and white.
@mrrmancunian You dont have to be a member of the AAC to be a pilot in the army, as long as your a corporal you can go for it, regradless of what job your doing.
Great footage mate. Do the AAC or FAA operate the Lynx Ah7 TOW anymore? I know 847NAS used to but not sure about AAC? Will the Flynx have ground attack capabilty, and who will fly them.
I'm going into sixth form next year and then going to join the Army, are there any particular subjects that would help me get into the AAC as a pilot?
Nice!! Reminds me of NI, 1RGJ with plenty of low level rides on these.

Its completely indiscribable the feeling you get when a lynx pilot takes you real fuckin high up then suddenly nosedives!
They used to do it everytime a new lad came on a patrol in Ireland, S.Armargh
Used to hate it! Glad of the experience though

I'm thinking physics, chemistry biology and geography and dropping geography at A-level as pharmacy is my back up plan
