Everyone here is being weenies lol we all have a passion for cars we shouldn't fight but share the knowledge. I like the Toyota Corrola Trueno AE86 Japan Spec id' love to have one and learn to drift.
Everyone here is wrong, in the USA it's a corolla GTS, in Japan it's either a levin or trueno, they have the same engine but the ones in japan have a little bit different specs
doesn't a sprinter trueno have flip up lights and a sprinter levin have no flip up lights and different grills? i donno maybe correct me if im wrong though. but i love this car
oh and people this is pretty sad saying that u guys know about hachis and just going on hear-say. atleast read up on wikipedia and or learn their history of the engine transmission chassis code and things like that please thank you
ok people are confused here in japan its called sprinter tureno (flip up) and the levin(non flip up). in america its called corolla gts. the sr5 is 1 trim under the gts it does not differentiate the headlights. the 4age engine is present in all gts models starting from 1984 to the early 90's if i remember correctly. the chassis code for japan is AE86xxxxxx blah blah blah in america is AE88xxxx blah blah blah ae85 is in japan and other places not america.
only difference between levin and trueno is that the trueno has pop up headlights, and the levin has fixed lights. the dx/sr5 and gt-s are the different models, and there are the coupe and hatchback versions of the ae86.
where are u getting 720 hp from???? if someone can make that out of a 4age for drift, i'll give em a cookie, thats a tall order for a straight line 4ag to hold up
@madscientist741 Or...Vaughn Gitten Jr.'s Mustang has the same paint scheme as this AE86...?? ooooo. There are like 5 cars with this paint scheme because they're all apart of the Falken Drift team.
wow, u all researched initial-D lmao really. only true ae86's in america are imported+ the levin and the trueno have completely diff. motors. Further more i want one T-T, but i guess the new ft-86 will do "ugly as shit though"
I'm not a big fan of the Falken tires team or the tires them selves (I prefer Toyo's) but I think the only cars I like on the Falken team is the Silvia and AE
Trueno means Thunder, so it passes as a Thunder Sprinter/GT, whereas Levin means Lightning, thus Lightning Sprinter/GT.
If it has a 4AC or 3A engine, its a AE85 (In the sense that it has no 4A-GE.) SR-5 and therefore not a Sprinter/GT model, if it has the 4A-GE engine, it`s the Sprinter/GT model.
The E in the chassis codes: KE30, KE70, TE71, AE86, AE101, AE111, AE82, KE5X, etc etc = Corolla.
@moonerdizzle Yessir, what I meant was that the SR5, in Japan, having the chassis code AE85, is not any different from the Western world introduced AE86 coded SR5 apart from them being delivered with different engines, the Western SR5 AE86 coming with 4A-C 1.6 SOHC and the Japanese one coming with 3A-U 1.5 SOHC.
My apologies for the misunderstanding sir.
I also own a 84 AE86, theres just something about the early ones aint it? :D
@ToreDL87 oh, i love my 84 rolla, theres a place in my heart for carbed SOHC motors. i may make a 7ac hybred motor, but im not going to put a 4ag in her.
@ToreDL87 i like my SOHC, they got a lil bit more torque, and less moving parts equals less shit that can break on me, and im slowly working on making a 4ac into a 4ag killer, im tired pf chasing down hondas adn set my scope on a new target, lol
..a reliable 4ac that beats 4ag`s? Maybe equal of a 4ag block and thats without mentioning reliability, You`d need squirters, crank, pistons, and what little torque a 4ac has over 4ag is easily beaten with a bit of overbore, and the head? Where you going to find the parts to tune that? It`d all be custom and you`d be wasting a shit load of money for a engine that needs revving to 8k just to go off at green light and overhaul every year with careful driving while my race 4ag 16v goes for 5 years
@ToreDL87 not bashing or hating, but i can just let off the clutch at an idle and go, and i dont want to be a conformist and do a 4ag swap or any other swap, i want ot take a good motor that is often overlooked and take it up to level that can compete with most 4ags, cause not every one who has a 4ag goes all out with them, just a few things here and there, and another thing, my 4ac is 26 years old, never been overhauled, has 141xxx miles, and has great compression, only prob is the dizzy oring
The race starlets with over 160PS had 3k`s but with dohc heads ;)
But I`m not here to spit on people, if you got a lot of money, go for it, and make a build thread somewhere, you`d be helping out others on the same quest plus its fun to read :)
@moonerdizzle I never said 84 sr5`s didnt have the AE86 chassis code, look what I wrote, AE86 coded SR5. Which is completely opposite to what you are accusing me of..
@frozenzorpewpew I never said you couldnt get AE86`s with 4AC`s, I said the sr5 and ae85`s have different specs.. I`m well aware that you get a 4ac AE86 in Aus.. But its not a AE85 now is it :)
Clarification: In the U.S. market, the 4A-GE engine was first used in the 1985 model year Corolla GT-S only, which is identified as an "AE88" in the VIN but uses the AE86 chassis code on the firewall as the AE88 is a "sub" version of the AE86.
actually its a corolla levin in the US and a Sprinter trueno in japan, but it doesnt really matter.and ae86 is the chasis code man, chill.dont call him stupid if you dont really know man.
they are but idk if the levin was sold much to the USDM,so in the US the ae86 is sold mainly as the Corolla GTS/SR5 hatch/coupe' and in Japan there were both the corolla levin and the Sprinter trueno.
@gunsnroses0987 ok simple in JDM land its levin (sqare lights) or trueno (pop up lights) in aussie land there called sprinters (square lights with a shitty 4ac) and in american u got the corolla sr5 (with the pop up lights)
@rockerdude29 There were no Corolla Levins in the US. I have no idea how u got so many thumbs up. AE86-AE92 were referred to as Corolla Sport in the US and always featured the Trueno style front end. @rockerdude29 No,, the Levin never came to the US. Its sold as the Corolla SR-5 Or GT-S depending on sports package. And was only sold with the flip lights body style known as "Trueno". In Japan both body styles where sold, the flip light models where sold under the name Trueno, where as the Stationary headlight styled 86's where sold under the name Levin.
I was under the impression that the difference between trueno and levin was the front end. Levin having static headlights and Trueno having the pop up headlights..

@rockerdude29 The Corolla Levin has fixed headlights, the Sprinter Trueno has flip-up headlights. The United States doesn't have either. The U.S has a Toyota Corolla GT-S, and SR5. Both of which are not AE86's. America has the AE85 Corolla, the difference between the AE85 and 86 for us, is the K50 Transmission, the non LSD, and they don't come with the 4A-GE like the Japanese model. The 4A-GE, was introduced however, in the Toyota Corolla GT-S AE92, in the states.

But, i don't know what other differences there are between the two besides the different headlights, so that's why I asked.
Suspension is the same. the chassis may be a little stiffer in the rear due to the fact you have sheet metal going across the back seats and kind of tieing in the rear sus. but I doubt you can really feel that much of a difference. Plus if you are modifying these cars you will be stiffining up the chassis via. braces or roll cage.

Well you can have trueno coupes/ hatches
and levin coupes/hatches.
The only difference is that The rear supension in a coupe is much stiffer due to the lack of weight/ glass.
other than that there is no real difference other than looks.
