  • John is the sign of a responsible human being. To facilitate others to live a more compassionate, healing and caring lifestyle. I just found out Im a "baby boomer" from this talk.

  • i eat zeppolies

  • Who wants to die at a young age? Stay healthy and be at your prime by knowing what are the best things to do so.

  • is this john robbins from pbs?

  • thanks

  • M&Ms, breakfast of champions

  • Earthlings was the catalyst that started me on vegetarianism but will eat meat occasionally if I can be sure it was treated right during it's lifetime. I feel we cannot expect to be treated well by others while we do these heinous things to creatures lesser than ourselves and then turn our heads the other way. Wonderful video. John Robbins' message is beautifully enlightening and good for the world.

  • plant base diet are normaly low in calories unless you add a tone of oil and if you eat little you may enjoy a longer life spam thats all, I'd recommend a 40% fat, 40% protein and 20% carbs only from veggetables and fruits that looks more similar to what our ancestors eated, you are just an smoke seller and a paranoid.

  • @ejumc Our ancestors ate less meat that veggetables, and our far back ancestors ate no meat at all. 40% fat is way too much and will not allow your heart the health to live past 60. No thanks.

  • @Lipitorforall

Science tells us that evolutionarily our meat consumption increased with increasing brain capacity. Meat more efficiently fueled our larger brains. Meat is appropriate for our modern bodies. Tell the original eskimo (or the Masai) about 40% fat. They would have laughed at you. Sugars and glycemic carbs are the greatest threat to the heart, not fats. Watch the movie "Fathead" for a scientific explanation.

  • @paulinator61 There is a correlation with our recent hominid ancestors and increased consumption of meat, but when you think critically, this does not prove that meat directly relates to increased brain size. Many animals eat meat, but have not evolved to our brain capacity. Higher calories was needed for brain size, but you can condense calories by cooking plant based foods. The various medical associations and heart association would disagree with your findings based on peer reviewed studies.

  • arguing on youtube is a waste of time, sorry to burst your bubble.

  • this man is crazy, we are made for meat.

  • @ejumc Then why do the longest lived people follow a 99% plant based diet? We are not made to eat meat. That is what the evidence shows. Hunter gatherers meat-based societies have the lowest life spans.

  • @organicsunhealth

Hunter gathers live short lives because hunting and gathering is a crappy way to live. It's returns are horrible for the energy expended. and MOST h-g societies eat very little meat on average.

  • @ejumc You're an idiot. An idiot who knows nothing about your own digestive system. Because you are a sheep like most Americans. Nothing but jokes who get their wallets sucked for cash spent on cures that they will never be found, food that slowly kills you and does absolutely nothing to you because most of your kind is too busy watching fucking tv reality and idolizing boob jobs. Yeah way to go. Be more aware. Travel the world. Learn something and become a lion not a sheep.

  • Healthy at 100 is amazing book. I haven't read a better book about research and health. Watching his speech again, I want to read the book again :)

  • Human mother's milk contains 2.5% protein.

  • I feel so sorry for people who are not open minded enough to listen to messages from people like John Robbins. It is just too much for them to fathom a lifestyle change, it is easier just to continue on the same path and blame all their health problems on genetics. Take a good look at this man and see how thin, vibrant, and healthy he is and he maintains this by following this diet. The man walked away from millions to promote this diet and people here say he is trying to sell a book???

  • @nitaruggiero Oh yeah, this man shines in so many ways, none of which I see in people who have spent their lives spilling the blood of others because they've been conditioned to have a sense of "pleasure" when they put that hideous stuff in their mouths.

  • I to do not donate to breast and other cancer causes. One has to wonder where the money really goes. A simple solution is to avoid eating the meat and products of animals that are contaminated, sick and dying. Go vegan and be healthy, or improve your health. People are feeding themselves cancer and other illnesses when they consume meat, poultry, cheese, eggs and other animal products.

  • I'm really shocked by Bolgi's comment "All disease can be prevented by diet" Yeah right. You can eat really well and still get cancer. The risk of most diseases can almost certainly be reduced by diet and environmental choices, but it's not as though you can eat enough steal cut oats and broccoli and live forever or even never get sick again.

  • Diet does play a big part in overall health, however genetics plays a bigger part.

  • @mrfunnyman99 The interesting thing is , that what you eat affects what the genes do. So your habits are very important.

  • You did listened to this scientist and probably many other experts in the real medicine, the medicine of Life, that cures with live foods, with live substances and not with poison. And even if you argue with each other, the truth is that you all don't trust your doctor and you did see the effects tha drugs have on ppl. This is really important. From this point on, it depends on each persons jurney on self research about the true health and healing. Cheers everyone ! (& help others find this too)

  • load of rubbish ,i dont smoke i dont drink booze ,i excerised every day for the last 30 yrs ,i eat friut ,fish ,veg ,an did all the things your are waffling about ,,,guess what ive now got a heart stent ,,my artery was blocking up with colesteral ,,

  • @visableshirt How was/is the food prepared ? That's important to know, too.

  • great book and great lecture!

  • John Robbins is such a gentle man.

  • i hate living in the middle of all these toxic foods. but, im managing to keep healthy as far as i know

  • If you have never seen the documentary Earthlings, Food Inc. or A diet for a new America I would suggest you look watch them they do a good job of showing a slightly broader view of the subject.

  • rather than over consumption, destruction of our planet, killing of life. Your greatest asset as an American, Canadian, African, European, Asian as a human is your ability to work and ability to purchase. Every hour you work and every dollar you spend is a choice you choose who and what you support every time you spend. Never listen to media or especially advertisements do your research make your own choices. Choose LIFE, support the world and global community.

  • @mack1010103 Very true man!

Most people don´t recognise, that they are living for the industry, for the system, because they´re conditioned this way.

And the choice what a man does with his money has definately an effect for every individual.

  • And the people that do those genetic deficiencies can in most cases be traced back to the diet and health choice of the parents and living conditions. The fact is most people are sick because of what they eat and what they put into their bodies. Not from any disease or genetic deficiency. Any one can be healthy, vital and strong, you just have to be proactive not inactive make the hard decision but the right one choose life and prosperity

  • After your body recovers from the shock of being literally poisoned for years. YOU WILL FEEL FANTASTIC. And as far as genetics go i have been involved in vegan bodybuilding for sometime now and have much experience with body fuctionability and genetics role to play in your health and fitness. I would like to see a study on how many people die every year from some genetic disease or vulnerability.

  • You really have no idea what you are talking about any person can adapt a vegetarian or a vegan diet and not only be perfectly healthy but thrive. There of course will be affects on ones body when vastly changing your diet that doesnt enclude things like monosodium glutamate, high concentration of corn starch, saturated fats and so many sugars and sugar substitutes. ie: aspartame (which is cancer causing)

  • JR is way cool.

  • sorry oppersite bad spellin lol

  • my names john robbins lol but im like the oppsite to him

  • The best way to improve the health of Americans, is for Congress to pass laws requiring all foods manufactured, to contain only health improving ingredients. Every food sold must be health promoting.

  • @almxx Really, that is just what I want....Big Brother dictating what I eat. In your ideal world does Big Brother still allow me to eat bacon, do I have Tofu forcefed down my throat????

  • Loved your book! I purchased 20 copies and gave them to loved ones. Thank you.

  • I agree with what we do now the way we live will effect us through out our lives the way we age the way we feel nutrition and fitness are the big factors but this guy still sounds like a freaking scientologist

  • Soylent Green..what a prediction of the McDonalds generation

  • Lol so true

  • He's turning 62 this October.

    Wikipedia :)

  • is he 100?

  • um nooo lol that would be pretty amazing. hes talking about people who lived to be 100 and their diets

  • Ah right. Yeah I suppose it would be amazing, this man does look pretty healthy. Age is determined by also genetic factors as sometimes in rare cases the genetics overpower all enviromental factors. SO its not all about the diet.

  • True that some ppl have amazing abilities to adapt to food and habits that would be very negative for most ppl. I believe all ppl would benefit from trying to optimize their diet though.

  • Hey people anyone, i want to live as long as possible and be happy, i am reducing how much i eat every day by at least 30%, i study science at A level, i need adivice, what i want is to slow down the age process in my body, so less dna get damaged, and complimentry base pairing does not get screwed up, BUT i want to do my sports, i want to be fast and strong, build muscle. Im sure it is possible to both slow down the ageing cycle in my body and to increase muscle, but i need some adivice.

  • There is a very good book called "Fantastic Voyage: Live long enough to live forever" by Ray Kurzweil, I think you will enjoy it.

  • google 'foodnsport' dude, peace and good luck

  • Age in your body is the same as what happens with steel and oxygen. Make sports, look what you eat, and dont build muscle, at least not with more than 60%.

  • I remember meeting John at an event a few years ago. Such a gentle spirited man.

  • I'm getting younger these days..., try fasting or a juice cure for a few weeks, you can turn back the clock of up to thirty years. I'll write a book about, why not? :)D

  • Looking forward to reading the book.; this man is one of my heroes. He's exactly what the vegan movement needs, too--a calm, rational, intelligent, and well-informed spokesperson who doesn't resort to shock and "food Nazi" tactics to get the point across.

  • His book Healthy at 100 is incredible and one of the best books I have ever read.

  • All disease can be prevented by diet.

I have never donated to cancer research and never will. Cancer research is a bottomless pit of false hope.

  • @Bolgi

I couldn't agree more. I see friends hosting drives and fund-raising for various research organizations, feeling they owe it to some relative who died from cancer. They take it personal if you present a different point of view.

  • @Bolgi Never knew aids could be prevented by diet.... or malaria and a ton of other diseases.

  • @Black7Cloud O.K.....you got me! I should have said "Most disease...".Does not change the fact cancer, diabetes, heart disease, gout, tooth decay, chronic fatigue syndrome and a ton of other diseases are caused by wrong food choices.

  • @Black7Cloud

Lol. Funny that you mentioned AIDS little sheep. Yes, sheep. Or are you too in love with the "TRUSTWORTHY" world governments to not be able to believe for one moment that....AIDS IS A MAN MADE DISEASE. You mean to tell me that the one most natural animal act which is, reproduction , comes with a potentially deadly disease? I'm sure nature would never do such a thing. It makes no sense. However to control population.....ahh !! *lightbulb* now that's a good idea......Idiot.

  • @Phelonetv You call me an idiot, but you fail realize that aids has existed as much as 10.000 years ago in apes, and shortly after it mutated into a form which humans could carry. Oh, the irony.

You easily take conspiracy theories as truth, as if you were there when it all happened (you weren't) ... yet you call me a sheep. Damn son, i'm trying hard to keep my laughter here........ a fuck it.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

  • @Phelonetv besides, what's wrong with population control? there are way too many people anyway.

  • @Bolgi Old comment, but that is one of the most ignorant statements i've heard.

"All disease can be prevented by diet"

Not true. What about genetically inherited diseases from the parents, such as sickle cell anemia/disease?

  • @Bolgi I have already corrected my comment. I really meant "most" disease. Yes, there are some diseases that are "inherited" , but they are rarer. However, the major killers in our civilization are lifestyle diseases and are preventable.

Cancer research is one of the biggest cons in the world today. You might as well flush your money down the toilet. So called inherited diseases might be the unfortunate result of bad choices by previous generations.

  • @Bolgi Really great comment; well said and I completely agree!!

  • @Bolgi "All disease can be prevented by diet."

"I have never donated to cancer research and never will."

    51 thumbs up.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh my god how fucking stupid some people can be. All disease can be prevented with diet eh? What about genetic diseases? Infection? Immunodeficient diseases? Cardiovascular? Sexually transmitted diseases?

The answer, you fucking morons, is no they can't. Most of you will die of a disease regardless of diet, FACT.

  • @ihaterobbie123

    Actually STD's are a misnomer.

You see, STD's are actually a pathogen, not a disease.

Disease is something that functioned normally and now it does not function normally.. not at ease.

A pathoge is a livig thing such as a virus that has now become a parasite on a living thing. everything functions normally but this extra thing is now cohabitating with the healthy body.

    You can PREVENT with diet

You prevent yourself from dying by wearing a seat belt but not guarantee

  • @DoshUnScripted A disease is any abnormal condition, full stop, that's the definition.

If you were to exclude externally caused diseases and focus on internal dysfunctions you'd still find most of them have not been correlated with diet. One could argue diet is external and that therefore by definition no internally caused disease can be related to diet.

Jeez biology is fuzzy these days. There's a debate going on within the medical world as to whether or not cancer is a disease or it's normal.

  • @ihaterobbie123

    @ihaterobbie123

I said, "something that functioned normally and now it does not function normally.. not at ease."u said," A disease is any abnormal condition, full stop, that's the definition."

How do these differ?? Anyway, the "Health" dept, food and drug admistration, medical commuity are all just out to make their pocket books well.

In the U.S. and soon the world, their will be no "CURES" only "TREATMENTS" util it is unprofitable or too iconvenient to treat the masses.

  • @DoshUnScripted "dept, food and drug admistration, medical commuity are all just out to make their pocket books well."

No sorry, I don't live in the corporate wasteland excuse for a country. I plan to after I finish my degree though, someone needs to sort you lot out.

They differ in their use, you were trying to argue that pathogens are not or do not cause disease, because if they did that would make Bolgi's blind opinion WRONG...which it is.

Diet WILL NOT prevent ALL disease, end of discussion.

  • @ihaterobbie123

What I said is still TRUE

I may have metioned other things but that does not make everything else LESS TRUE!

  • @ihaterobbie123

OH YES... as far as you preaching to me " someone needs to sort you lot out."

This is the EXACT type of thinking that:

    - created slavery of any age

    - gets abortion doctors killed "in the name of God"

    - world wars start

    - creates holicost and other events of genocide

    - started the crusades and the inquisition

and about gazillion other things I dont have the characters remaining.

So, I'm goig to turn away since I know what kind of person Im dealing with now. Thanks!

  • @DoshUnScripted It was a joke, of course if I emigrate to the US I don't expect to change your politics.

Of course you probably knew that...maybe, and didn't feel like conceding your original argument, so how do you avoid it? Point out something off-topic that I said and use it as an excuse to retreat and declare victory.

This reminds me of arguing with creatards, you pile-drive their argument but if you swore even once they'll call you vulgar and use it as an excuse to avoid you.

    Stay classy.

  • @ihaterobbie123,

Just like your screen name says, you have a lot of HATE inside of you.

You are totally missing the piont of this informative video and you obviously have a lot of Marxism in you.

I have choose to step away because you obviously are petty and you like to have discussios the way ah 8yo boy likes to pull the wings off of insects and tourcher animals.

You are disturbed so this is the reason why I have choosen to stop communication with you, to be humble. Not classy.

  • @DoshUnScripted Oh my god, you're like the 100,001st person to cite my screen name, congratulations but you're barking up the wrong tree.

My original comment had nothing to do with the video, it was a response to someone, by no stretch of the imagination should it be irrelevant to the video.

You have chosen to attack me, the person, because you can't defeat my argument. Give any other reason you want, it only proves my point further. You're throwing jabs, but the fight's over mate.

    Nighty night.

  • @Bolgi So true cancer research is backed by pharmaceutical companies, and there goal is NOT TO CURE ANYTHING!!, but to sell more processed man made DRUGS!!,, and keep us SICK!!!!

  • big pharma isn't smart enough to keep scientists from working

  • is this a level?

  • ROFL! You're right!!! :D

  • That's sad.

  • We aren't talking about having a perfect looking body, it's about having a perfect working body.

    drugs, coffee, meat, dairy...

    All the same.

You're an addict and it seems you're ok with that, so just keep doing what you're doing and you'll have the health you create, whether it's good or bad. Personally, I would rather live long and drop dead suddenly then live short and be in pain for half of it.

    Good luck!

  • The evidence seems to be coming in that coffee drinking is associated with good health outcomes, though there was a study with one genetic type in Nicaraguan men in which it was associated with a higher risk of heart disease. Voltaire apparently drank 50+ (tiny French style I guess) cups a day, and he did pretty well.

  • I guess you went to class with him since you now him so well ;) The men lived 300 +/- years ago...you can never know for sure how well someone did

  • Holy shit!!!

Voltaire drank 50+ cups of coffee a day?? Whoa!!!

Caffeine is a drug and it's unhealthy but that don't stop me from drinking 2 0r 3 cups of gourmet tea a day. I use 12oz cups by the way.

  • the milk/dairy and sugar in ur coffee is damaging ur body badly more then the actual coffee beans mate

  • For sure.

I know dairy clogs arteries and it does some other damages..

Sugar suppress the immune system. Only refined sugar though. Sugar from fruits is good.

So yeah man, dairy and sugar are very destructive.

  • Watch trailer to new film on natural health foodmatters[dot]tv

  • He's horrible on this video, but the book Healthy at 100 is incredible. One of the best books I have ever read.

  • lol "bla bla bla vague outdated nutritional dogma bla bla bla!!!"

Just so you know, that's what YOUUUU sound like!

  • )))Don't agree with me?Take your stupid diet and live until 85 like a cow, eating all day grass.))

Next time you are answering me,try to speak.

  • ok me speak like you type this time I answer you. you say me be like "cow eating all day grass"))) )))) ))) me like use parenthesis unnecessarily (((((

The theory that cancer and most deadly and debilitating diseases are solely at the command of ones genes is an outdated and simply untrue finding. Diet, environment, and overall lifestyle determine our health. It is not dictated by our DNA, although genes CAN play a ROLE in the development of such conditions.

  • Ohhhh I see, you havn't seen research results since 1972, that must be the problem. I would suggest reading new studies. Just so you know, high cholesterol "runs" in my family (italian heritage), yet because my cholesterol intake is ZERO, my cholesterol levels are optimal. It's that simple. Prevention!

  • Well, Kiril1, a year and a half ago, I switched to a low-fat, whole-grain, vegan diet. Within 3 months, my LDL cholesterol dropped from 142 to 98. Then, 3 months later, it continued down to 68. My HDL increased slightly from 32 to 35. Also, my blood pressure plummeted down to a good, normal level. (Oh, and I lost 60 pounds, too.)

  • So I guess you don't have a genetically determined high cholesterol, otherwise you won't have so good results.

And:your start point was bad-if you lost 25 kg,then you had much space for improvement. But what will you suggest to a guy on his 50's,with 130-140 pounds, not eating much fat and having LDL 170 and higher?

If you start from almost a normal level, you have no much space for improvement, sorry.

  • (Spacebo za otveta, Kiril.)

Obviously, Kiril, you do not want to lose weight. You say that you do not eat much fat. Are you eating much meat and dairy products? Are you eating lots of beans, vegetables, and whole grains?

  • (Pozhaluista!Learning russian language?)

Well,I'm sorry,I guess I just didn't formulate what I wanted to say in appropriate way:it's not me,I just gave you an example of people with such date.I am just age 26,but who know, which health problem I have,if I live more 25-30 years.))

I am eating meat, cheese, kefir, spor cream.Vegetables-not too much, but as I know-more than average guy of my age.I can hardly remember when I ate a hamburger..

    But I like apples,grapes.

  • Kiril,

You say that you do not eat much fat. But all those dairy products (cheese, kefir, cream) are high in saturated fats. They may be keeping your cholesterol high.

  • Yes,but not too many. Now I am not on diet, because I am just 26 and my LDL is about 100+ and HDL about 70+ and tryglicerides 55.If I start having lipid problesm,I will have to close my mouth when seeing these products.)

  • "kiri1" be on an alkaline diet and your genetics will be unimportant!......a healthy body is an alkaline body in any age as long as you keep alkaline you be fine!!!..acid diet: cooked food, meat, dairy, coffee, alcohol, white sugar stuff, etc,....the most alkaline diet is the RAW vegan diet (with only a little pit of sweet fruits) of course because too much sugar means acid!

  • This is my real name,no need of "".

In fact,at the beginning I wanted to ignore you, because vegan and me like water and electricity. But then I saw your age-107!!o mein got!))Then I decided to listen to you.

-Is it you on the background?

-And!:I also like the Rottweilers and Pitt bulls.(not to eat, just to watch them.)

    Good day,Nikita.

  • Kiril1, yes thats me in the background..

  • Nice to meet you.107 it's not a joke...

Since when haven't you been eatimg meat?

  • I totally agree with you! Simple biology teaches us that ANY phenotype is always the result of genes PLUS environment so even if Kiril is predisposed unless he supplements his body with chemicals and nutrient-empty food these genes will never be activated and illness will never ever ever ensue. vegan yay.

  • "kiri1" the genetic factor is very small, most people get the same diseases like there're parents only because the keep eating the way they learned it from there parents in the first place!! acids go to the weakest point of your body first, for example if you have genetically weak lungs the acids will go there first and cause problems like asthma for example...BUT BUT BUT !!! That can only happens if you are on a acid diet in the first place!!!

  • WOW. this guy looks really good at 100.

  • @makapuubodysurfing1 he is not 100 you moron

  • @digitalrealms makapuubodysurfing1 was poking fun at him for

not being 100, but promising that we would be healthy if we follow

what he says. When he lives to be 100, then I will listen to him!! I

will listen to Luigi Cornaro, who lived to be 98 with all of his facilities in tact.

  • @makapuubodysurfing1 Please answer me honestly, is he 100 years old??

  • @dbrebi

    He's 64.

  • @makapuubodysurfing1 You are pretty dumb not realizing he is not 100 years old.

  • @makapuubodysurfing1 lol i think he's only 62... Check his bio at wikipedia

  • @makapuubodysurfing1 Your kidding right? Did you not watch the video? He's not 100 - He's talking about how to be healthy at 100. The fact that 26 people gave this comment a thumbs up disturbs me.

  • @music4rituals I'm sure it was sarcasm :s

  • he looks amazing for 100! wow!

  • no he isnt 100. look at the details of the video. all good bud dont feel im bashing on ya. title is a bit misleading

  • ))))))))))))))))

  • hmmm...I was under the impression that beef took the longest to digest?

  • Beef is by far the worst.

  • The lesson here is not necessarily to adopt a vegetarian diet but to eat less meat as per the 4 groups he alludes to. None of them are vegan or vegetarian. Okinawans eat fish and pork as do most Japanese. They have the best longevity record and it is the Japanese diet we should be emulating.

  • Although Okinawans have about the most healthy diet as a culture, it isn't perfect and I wouldn't suggest adding pork to any diet. Trading the pork and even some of that fish for diverse fruit would make it even more healthy.

  • Wrong. Vitamin B12 can be found in fermented foods (such as tempeh, natto and miso) and ALL minerals are available and abundant in a vegan diet. Brendan Brazier and Scott Jurek are healthy VEGANS!

  • The veg sources of B12 are mostly biounavailable/not readily absorbed, except for unwashed mushrooms. But going into a clean forest eating low growing berries raspberries in particular could provide trace B12 in addition to possible clean drinking water that is not filtered. For our ancestors all the B12 necessary was from unwashed plant and unfiltered water so it is natural.

  • Veganism is overrated, vegetarianism is perfect imo.

  • u are neither.

  • With all due respect, until one actually discovers the superiority of the vegan diet, one doesn't truly realize how UNhealthy a vegetarian diet is - mainly due to dairy products and the animal protein contained in it (casein). It's said that if a meat eater were to give up any food from his diet, even over red meat, giving up dairy would make a MUCH bigger difference towards improved health.

  • Great video and great information.

  • Get OUT he's not 100 years!! :O

  • you are an idiot...

  • Thank You, John Robbins! Praise the Lord!

  • There's more to life than just money. You have a lot to learn. Too bad that Baskin Robbins ice cream has PUS in it!

  • John Robbins is a true hero. Some things in life are more important than trust funds and shoving our faces with fat which came out of an animal that has been tortured. The world needs people like John ,otherwise life on this planet would become a living hell much sooner.

  • Veganism is a natural step in the evolution of the human species. We cannot sustain ourselves or the planet if we continue to live like cave people.

  • don't you mean dead at 100? if you're healthy at 100 you should live till 120.

  • Too bad calves are pulled away from their mothers right after birth, so people can consume their mothers cow juice ie: baskin robbins ice cream. Adding more obesity, diabetes, and heart disease to humans health.

  • I live in Latvia ( Baltic States ) and enjoyed your book immensely. Thank you!!!

  • Thank you! PEACE!

  • i've been vegetarian since 1995 and vegan since 2001 because of Diet For a New America by John Robbins. it's refreshing to see him still at it. compassion, intellect and clarity all in one.

  • He's 60! I don't buy Baskin Robbins anymore and the last time i had a scoop was about an autumn ago. I eat yogurt, gelato, Tofutti, and ice cream from the place where they make it any way you want on a slab of stone...

    I love Quinoa.

  • That he's talking veganism for health and longevity is great.

  • this guy's 100?

  • 99,5.
