The song performed in this video is NOT based on the original "Jump Jim Crow." I don't know what the hell this is because I couldn't understand a word that was sung because of the poor quality audio.
You're correct: this is NOT the original "Jump Jim Crow" from 1828. This is Michelle Shocked's tune of the same title that pokes fun at Jim Crow, who was actually a white man in black face. I realize there may be some confusion as the audio IS poor. It was recorded on a fan's cellphone. Since the video is also of poor quality I'd like to point out that our wonderful bass player Dorian, who is singing the song, is of African-American descent.
I love the fact that Papa Tambo knows how to use adjectives and adverbs (as well as nouns), relax Papa. You can not expect to not have a negative response when you display this sort of video. I would like to carry on with you and learn of your ideology. Send a response soon.
I apologize for not replying sooner. Thank you for the very kind compliment regarding my grammar. My ideology? Well, as they say, "it's complicated". I suppose it would include a love and respect for a well constructed sentence, argument, song, musical instrument, building, bridge, space shuttle, cosmos, and espresso machine.
Thanks for the feedback. We always appreciate thoughtful, literate, constructive criticism. It's a refreshing change from the sophomoric, moronic, semi-literate pre-pubescent drivel that generally litters the comments section of the Youtube website.
Thanks for getting in touch. We're fans of Michelle Shocked & have perfromed a few of her great songs through the years. Jump Jim Crow is a song written by Michelle Shocked that doesn't celebrate Jim Crow but rather explores, in song, the issue of racial stereotypes. Michelle has performed this song with Taj Mahal.

@blackberryjuice1
Also, the song was made, you know, AFTER the laws were made.
So really, your just an idiot.

Funny how every time a black person points out racism he's an "idiot". Never fails. BTW, your comment was truly idiotic.
