Since I started to play the fiddle I have always loved the Cajon-music.
I am Swedish and have plans to go to USA on a holiday and listen to and perhaps learn more how to play Cajon-music. Please give me a tip, where to go in USA ? Hug
This is not Cajun in strictly speaking term as Zydeco which black creoles of Southern Louisiana play. Zydeco is more influenced by the sounds of the blues while Cajun music is more conservative.
@louisianalandes In Zydeco in my humble opinion, the rhythm is also important, being quite different from Cajun, having a strong backbeat. Although in the Creole style of music there appears to be a lot of crossover. Also imho they all have the African rhythmic influences. I once heard a radio programme playing what I thought was Cajun. It turned out to be from Sierra Leone. If we are talking history I'd want to recognise the Native Americans as being there before anyone else.
@zphil u have to remember once music becomes popular it goes every where..for eg. once reggae got popular it got Re-exported to africa and people started singing it over there. Same happened with afro-carribean music travelled back to africa....very imp factor that a lot of people miss. Maybe zydeco or cajun music was adopted by sieera leonians. Music and culture flows both ways.
@louisianalandes I agree with the origin being in the adaptation of the Louisiana
French culture and language blending with Creole influences, but over the years I think, as with most music, it has changed just like country music has changed from Loretta Lynn to Carrie Underwood.

@fiolleffe Well, for Cajun and Zydeco you have to come to Louisiana for the real stuff!
The bonus is you will LOVE the food here, too.
