However, if there is a fear that it might worsen the relationship or may wreak havoc on him or the family, then he should avoid it completely.

Like all the Holy books,the Qu'ran was not written by god. How do I know this?Taking one example, that of the Qu'ran permitting a Muslim man to have 1-4 wives. I don't believe that is true. Many, like myself, have taken the time to read the Qu'ran, the Hadith, etc, listen to Islamic scholars and critics of the Islamic doctrine.Further to that I have just started reading Sharia. Like all the Holy books,the Qu'ran was not written by god. How do I know this?Taking one example, that of the Qu'ran permitting a Muslim man to have 1-4 wives. Now according to The World Fact Book, the world ratio of men to women in 2011 was 1.00 to 1.01(Almost even) 1-4 wives goes against nature. 4 men would need approx. 10 wives.

@kickassemperor The reason why God allowed this that in the times of war (when the widow of your best friend has no home left , and no money left for her), in the times of famine, when the wife is too ill and the husband is too busy for her, when the wife can't have children ,etc ... Islam allowed marrying those wifes in order to help them (not for the pleasure of the man).
And the first wife has every right to abolish or divorce her husband if he does this without her approval ...

@kickassemperor So the man doesn't have any right to marry another wife without her wife knowing about this marriage , or else she has the ability to abolish it ... So no .... Men don't have the advantage in Islam , women are equally blessed with rights also ... I hope that answers your question .... But take note that not every man in Islam marries two wives or more , but in some rare cases they may have to ... And also our culture is different from yours.
