He is the only true independent filmmaker. He can make what ever he wants, when he wants and does't have to have input from anybody if he doenst want it. He even owns it after he makes it. Not a lot of filmmakers own 100% of their work.

I love Star Wars (just not Howard the Duck), but agree with what some people here said...He has lost his mojo. The first trilogy was scripture (The second sucked). Who cares where Vader came from? Some things are best left to the imagination. Finally, where I am to evoke the fact that Lucas' storytelling needs to be locked away in mothballs, if you dont believe me, look at the story line for "Indiana Jones 4. (WTF?).

Charlie Rose is a terrible interviewer. He always interupts people and makes the stupidest points. Should be off the air. I did enjoy this interview however.
Interupting is a part of the job as an interviewer. You can't let the person you interview talk about whatever he wants for as long as he wants. He have to control the situation to maximise the effience of the time they have for the interview. I think Rose gave Lucas more freedom than I usually see in interviews. His somewhat weak points gave Lucas more room to say things on his own, rather than just agreeing with everything the interviwer said. A very good interview IMO.
I found this show to be very thought-provoking and I plan on watching it again just in case I missed a few points the first time around. I couldn't help but think about the comment he made about emotional intelligence being more important than intellectual intelligence. I have seen how true that is and that few people have emotional intelligence. I call it people skills. And I have also seen that many get by sheer luck and/or by cheating. It's good to know Lucas worked hard for what he has.
You need both, AWARENESS is the key to success in life. You need to be aware of how your emotional wounds of the past can hold you back and how the emotion of fear can be irrational and should be ignored at times when you know intellectually you can succeed. Lucas kicked off some great film series, maybe he put his trust into other directors who were not up to it at times and maybe he needed help with scripting at times. Trust is a tough one, a matter of judgement. I like Lucas & some GL films.

I think sometimes George is blinded we all the technology he tries to come up with for telling his stories, but he don´t need every tool to be perfect. I mean that he have told stories like THX and American Graffiti without to much high-tech tools, and people before him have done it. But this interview gave me hope that maybe a new Lucas film will be made in the future..
If George gets his shit together, and start being a real artist once more, then we'll definitely see some real films like THX as you say, but it seems unlikely.

well not the king but definately very good and i think that Star Wars prequal trilogy was very understated....sure not as good as the original, story wise but visually much more stuning now....alhough Epi 4 is now like my favourite out of the original Series THX 1138 best George Lucas movie ever i highly recommend

As a young man Lucas showed an extraordinary amount of talent and promise with films like "THX 1138" and "American Graffitti." "Star Wars" was his last good film. It's a shame he's just made crap since then and has gone back and ruined his older films (even "THX 1138," which I think may be his masterpiece).

good for you lildof2001!! Lucas' life is an amazing story of applied talent. A young kid who wanted to be a race car driver, then wanted to be an artist/photgrapher. And now is a commanding force in the film industry ( in many diffreent ways) for the past 30 years.
