  • Why margarine rather than butter?

  • Thats a proper sized one!

  • @moleman1961

the bigger, the better : )

  • I was on YouTube looking at regional cooking for Michigan USA and we make pasties here. Mostly they are popular in the northern part of Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. I adore pasties! I had some Cornish pasties when I was in England and I just about died from the taste! SOOOO good. They were shipped into the town where I was staying. (Enfield)The good Cornish people emigrated to Michigan to work the mines(back in the late 1800's) and they brought pasties to Michigan God bless them!

  • What pastry is that

  • you did great with this pasty

  • yum im eating one riiight now except i used mince and grated the carrot potato and parsnip

  • coughing

  • @C1audiiax

It adds flavour! No, I can assure you that she coughed into her shoulder/arm. I wouldn't have eaten it otherwise : )

  • Thank you Nan for teaching me how to make pasties! I'll be watching for your next video... how to make short crust pastry. Mine always comes out like a rock and never flaky. I grew up in Grass Valley California with lots of pasty shops around town, but never knew how to make them or where they came from, until I was older and did my research. They were brought to CA more than 100 years ago by Cornish miners who immigrated to California during the gold rush.

  • She coughed straight into her hand then put in into the food!!!

  • @epsombristol

adds to the flavour EpsomBristol! No, I can assure you that she coughed into her shoulder/arm. I wouldn't have eaten it otherwise! : )

  • we dont crimp on the top in cornwall its always the side! thats like putting clotted cream on your scone first it just aint done!! it goes on after the jam!!

  • @jazzhandkid

controversial. I'll put that to my Cornish nan! : )

  • @jazzhandkid

You can tell you are true Cornish as you are totally correct. But as were not taking them down the mines for lunch, and our hands are clean, we'll forgive her for the crimping on top!!! : )

  • This is devonshire style isn't it?

  • If she's showing cornish pasties, why did you mention chicken pasties in the oven?

  • @bowler8

the first two in the oven were chicken pasties - the others were beef.

  • How did she make her pastry?

  • @bowler8

Please see her new video on how to make the pastry : )

  • Those look BEAUTIFUL!!! :)

  • PS...I love how she says no sauce is needed; her pasties stand on their own legs. Great comment!

  • Personally, it wouldn't bother me if my grandma coughed while cooking. It's not anywhere near as gross as some of the things that go on in commercial kitchens.

  • @GrapeLola

LOL. Thanks GrapeLola. I don't think even I would have fancied it much if my Nan had coughed on the pasty. Thankfully, she coughed sideways on her shoulder/arm - both times : )

  • Does the coughed on hands add the flavour??? lmao

  • @MegaTazman666

absolutely - extra tasty! LOL - no, I can assure you that she coughed into her shoulder/arm. I wouldn't have eaten it otherwise : )

  • im drunk. eating a spicy chicken slice.. i love this video. and yorur nana

  • @bugsbunny159

    Thanks Bugs.

  • Proper Job!

  • Hungry

  • make sure you cough in your hand every so often while assembling your pasty. otherwise it's just not mother's pasty

  • @jacero10

ha. I totally agree - it adds extra flavour! No, I can assure you she coughed in her arm/shoulder. I wouldn't have eaten it otherwise : )

  • i think this is a marvellous video. i was very impressed. i would like to gove it a go but can you tell me how to make the dough for the pastry please? or better if you could make a video on it ...that would be so helpful and i would be so grateful if i could make my own at home. thx

  • @sugarshamal

Hi Sugarshamal. Please see her new video on how she make her pastry : )

  • i'm hungry. is there a cook book for this?

  • They look delicious! There should be more traditional English food recipes on youtube, there's so many other cuisines on here but not enough of our own cooking. Thanks for sharing this!

  • So, Matthew how did it taste?

  • Wow! I want to try making some. How did she make the dough? Or was it store bought?

  • @pbuttandjam

Home-made! Please see her new video on how to make the pastry : )

  • omg I want one. ill trade ya, a pasty for an oatcake lol

  • @Freddie1980

Hi Freddie - take a look at her new video on how she makes the pastry : )

  • hmmmmmm, thanks to you both for this! God bless hmmmm hmmm, looks so tasty

  • In America we call them turnips too. Those really look great! I recently made some, but my pastry was so hard it was like hard tack! At least they travelled well and didn't get damaged in my pack :)

  • @RobbytheLion

Hi. Take a look at Nan's new video on how to make the pastry. Hopefully your next batch won't be like hard tack : )

  • I just got done making a Cornish pasty and i'm here, watching your video and waiting ever so patiently for mine to get done, hahah.

    I love em so much

  • Here in Mexico we have the same Pastes.. a heritage from the British =) they are delicious!

  • great recipe has she ever made pastie soup?

  • Cornish nan says plain flour

  • xcellent! wish i could go to her house!

  • Watching this video, I can taste me mumz pasties. I remember helping mum making them. Yummy

  • In many restaurants, the cornish pasty is brought to the table sizzling loudly on a metal platter or skillet, with the tortillas and condiments served on the side

i enjoy mine cooked in the Aztec or Mayan style.

For a good period of time, McDonalds served cornish pastys on their menu.

  • We all know that Devon invented the Pasty and the god dam Cornish nicked the idea.

  • brillant

  • what cut of meat does she use

  • Apparently skirt/skirting. You won't find it in Tesco!

  • @theplayles Get ye to a butcher!

  • Can i come to your Nans for dinner please...lol

  • @TheSunset57

You're welcome anytime. We call it the best B&B in Cornwall! : )

  • thats discusting yuk !

  • @dobsondale

How can anyone not love a Cornish pasty?

    - and I think you mean the word "disgusting" - and the word YUM!!!

  • i want to come to your nans house for some cornish pasties

    im so drooling right now

    i love pasties

  • @Jasey2007

Nan would welcome you with open arms - if you promised to stop the drooling : )

  • I can never get the crimping down as fast as mother.

I guess it just clicks once you reach a certain age.

  • @kinghaj

Let us know at what age you master it! : )

  • Hubby has teased me bout not making 'im Pasties for over twenty years, so I just had a go... He says they're not like his mums, so we fell out ! They're in t'oven now and look fine so far. If 'es not careful - it'll be another 20 years... lol-

not sure what heat to put oven on.

  • Cornish Nan says to start off at 220 C on the top shelf for 15/20 mins, then down to just under 200 C on a lower shelf for another 40 mins. How were they? You now divorced, or did they tun out OK??!!!

  • Thanks Mat, Im hoping with the help of Cornish Nan we'll patch this marriage up...anyway ,the kids loved my Pasties so they're staying with me... I'm in Newquay- don't suppose she'd do deliveries !

  • thats not a cornish pasty thats a devon pasty you can tell by the crimp style.

The Cornish pasty is not over the top its down the side so u can hold it with dirty hands.

    And thats a somerset accent.

  • That is in fact a true Cornish accent 'me 'andsome'. All the way from Falmouth, CORNWALL.

  • ....but you may be right about the crimping. The traditional Cornish crimping is to the side.

  • What tempreture you cook them at ?220 C?

  • Cornish Nan says to start off at 220 C on the top shelf for 15/20 mins, then down to just under 200 C on a lower shelf for another 40 mins. Good luck!

  • Great video! your nan is funny!

  • Wonderful, I can make my husband Cornish Pasties to go on a picnic. I don't care for them, but I can make him some. I may make some with chicken breast instead, so I can enjoy them, too.

  • dammit..!....i need to get myself a cornish nan asap..!

  • Hahaha! Yes "No tomato or HP sauce!" Tis the only way muy lover
