I reckon this is one of the best games ever. It had every bit of action you want in a game. Two classic long range goals from Beckham and Bergkamp. Roy Keane sending off. Schmeichel penalty save. Extra time. And to top it off, one of the best individual goals ever scored in the FA Cup.
I miss the 90's football just started watching football after Eric Catona retired everyone always greifs me for being a Man Utd fan but its not my fault my Mum and Dad where too cheap to pay for Sky Sports so the only games I got to watch was Man Utd in the champions league on ITV
How i miss these real footballing days.. devoid of all the plastic money.. chelshit & manshitty have brought to the BPL.. being a gunner.. m obviously disappointed to see arsenal's fall.. but more so.. the amazing man utd v/s arsenal rivalry.. liverpool too.. man how i miss those days.. the beckhams, bergkamps, henry's, keane's, scholes etc..
This game I watched in a pub at university campus in Canterbury. It was the best match I have ever seen- amazing drama, great goals. Gives me goose bumps still today....
The single greatest game ever played. it had EVERYTHING, great goals, a sending off, a penalty save, extra time, a goal disallowed, and one of the greatest goals ever, between 2 of the greatest rivals in sporting history. magnificent
@dujayy; Exactly, i hate the way Chelsea and City have become 'big clubs' because of money, its a joke, there is no way in hell that they would be where they are if it wasnt for there rich owners, id be embaressed if i was a fan of either club!
Dennis Bergkamp was one of the greatest strikers of all time. And the only thing better then seeing him score goals, was seeing Peter Schmeichel saying, "No. Go home."
I mean, really... What more could this match have had? Two great teams, the best in the land at the time, the fiercest of rivals, packed with class players, two top managers, great goals, drama, a sending off, a late penalty, a great penalty save, extra time and then, well, just about the greatest goal, all things considered, ever scored. Almost the best game of all time, based on expectation, spectacle and ultimately how utterly compelling it was and still is.
@dujayy Am a man utd fan and you are right on the second point. With kenny back at liverpool and arsene finally agreeing arsenal are just two or three big name signings away from becoming real contenders, these titanic battles are ready to resume in the years to come. Whether chelsea and man city can keep up with it just by splurging money, i don't know, but it would be more interesting if they are up there for the fight too.
@dujayy i feel the exact same way dont get me wrong when we do get a result on man u or arsenal im over the moon but i have more respect for united than any of the others
@MUFC127 A ctually, I'v ealways enjoyed Andy Gray's commentary, to be honest I've never found him to be anti-United at all, not like that idiot Alan Greene.
@dujayy Apart from a few brilliant managers who took clubs to the peak- Busby, Revie, Shankly, Clough..- most top clubs have relied on money, otherwise we'd have Hartlepool. Doncaster, Plymouth and others taking their turn more. Chelsea and Man City have had some history too before the big spenders came. You mention Arsenal through the 90s but they were big in the 30s too. Teams in large cities have an advantage anyway.
I bet Arsenal fans wouldn't be complaining about Beckham if Bergkamp had scored.
But because they're still in denial they feel they have to come up with a reason as to why they shouln't have lost. I almost feel sorry for them, almost.
Yes Arsenal had solid grounds for Bergkamp's penalty to be retaken. As well as Beckham's encroachment in the penalty box,the man u/fa 'keeper moved OFF his line before the penalty was struck.
@Akimoto4u Never bought our way in the way Chelsea and City have. Plus... jealous of what? Chelsea in fourth and City in third? I agree with Dujayy, I have a respect for Arsenal as our rivals, they deserve to be.
@Mohaukseven but u did , whenever it was. u r jealous coz u just had one contender to deal with in 90's then Chelsea came to light early in the last decade and now there's Man city. it was meant to happen, just live with it..
@Akimoto4u "But u did, whenever it was." Strong argument mate. Show me when, then we'll talk. Or better still, just watch one of the greatest players of his generation score his best ever goal again.
@Mohaukseven who said I was arguing with you(the silliest thing to do, with an united supporter). look into your history and you'll find your answer. btw I admire gigg's contribution to football, lucky for united who got him. he could've been much better
back when teams WON trophies and dont try to buy them like chelsea and man city scum one of the best goals and games i have ever seen, the two greatest prem teams in history (man utd 98-99 and arsenal 98-99) going head to head EPIC
It's a pity there is so much cuntism on this page, but the fact is that this was a magnificent match between two clubs at the very top of their game. So equal in almost every aspect that season, and bothunbeaten since the year before. This match gives me goosebumps, and I was so proud of this team.
Wow, talk about cardiac kids! This team came from behind so many times that year! The FA cup tie against Liverpool, this amazing game, the comeback win in Turin, and of course the final against Bayern...woah!
All of you. SHUT THE FUCK UP.. You are embarrassing yourselfs. What about focusing on this beautiful videoclip. Peter and Ryan in topform! This is true magic from united. stop whining foks, and start clicking on the replay botton. this is the shit.
I remember watching it that night, edge of the seat stuff! Schmeichel was immense. Its a joke the semi finals are in Wembley now and not in Villa Park, Elland Road, Stamford Bridge, Anfield etc. Neutral grounds much better. Or that BBC dont have the tv rights. It takes something away from the final itself.
giggsy . . . 37 yrs and he still runs with a ball , cant imagine anybody be it messi or ronaldo playing at the highest level wid tht passion for tht shirt. . . i'd like to see where messi and ronaldo will be when they are 30+. . .i bet in mls trying to play soccer :)
such an awesome match. One of the best. My favorite part, aside from the goal is beckham running to hug schmeichel after the penalty save. classic beckham
when it is your time to shine you're unstoppable. down by 1 man, still attacking and score a goal in extra time? not to mention down by 1 goal and score 2 in 1minute to secure uefa ... glory glory manunited
this is when the FA Cup used to mean something before teams started buying the Premier League and the Champions League ruined domestic football. Still one of the best games I've ever seen.
1st match b/w Arsenal & Man.Utd was tie by 1-1 sxore,,,, or 0-0 i don"t know but i sure that 1st match was tie,, and in 2nd simi final leg,,,, man.utd got victory over arsenal by 2-1,.,,,,,, the goal of giggs was one of the most poular solo efforts in english domestic league from 1992-1993 to tll now. graet great match b/w two great great games....
arsenal had a chance to bury this game and they didnt against man utd you cant take those kind of risks man they had more players and a penalty...bergkamp was a great striker but shit penalty taker you get quite a few of those but exciting match...i wish beckham still stayed longer at man utd doee...we havent had a player like him in a while with that kind of style to his game
This game is the perfect football match, for me. It's got everything you could want - three brilliant goals, a red card, a saved penalty... it's dirty but the ref allows play to flow - This is English football at its best.
The goal from Giggs was great, but it was more down to arsenals defensive mistakes then his dribbling or fancy footwork. They backed off too much and gave him too much space to score the goal. However, the finish was great. Its was a great goal, but not one of the greatest.
shut the fuck up zzzaa0990 you daft cunt this is imcredible! eira tried tackling him, Keown tried tackling him, Dixon tried tackling him TWICE and i think it was Petit that tried tackling him last with the slide then he fires it past Seaman! this is the best goal ever!
I'm sick of these players demanding £200,000 a week and still not playing to their full potential. Whereas there has never been anything in the press about Ryan Giggs complaining about wages. True professional, true role model, true footballer and a true football lover. United should retire the number 11 shirt when Giggsy retires!
No matter what way or age Giggs retire, he will still be remembered as the most legendary player United every had, or even the most legendary player UK or the world has ever seen!
Ryan Giggs, you make my heart warm.. I love you..
Best from Denmark, hope you'll play till your 40 atleast :).. <3
In modern football a foul would have been given against Bergkamp in the build-up to the Anelka disallowed goal...another reason why football is less entertaining now.
may i just add the colchester utd player who scored the two goals was ray crawford against the mighty leeds utd in 1971 he also won a first division league championship medal with ipswich town in1962 there manager being the great sir alf ramsey there are many great f a cup goals dont be blinded for your hatred for a team
what rubbish zzzaaa0990 is talking giggs goal was far better than villas his goal was rightly voted the best f a cup goal of all time and there as been some good ones includeing villas what about ronnie radfords goal for hereford against newcastle in 1972 you say your a colchester fan what about the ex ipswich and englands brace of goals against one of the best teams in the country at that time 1971 u hate manu
Best goal I ever saw in the FA Cup was by Ricky Villa of Spurs in the 1981 FA Cup Final, where he dribbled and weaved his way through the Man City defence and avoided tackles, unlike Giggs in this match where no defender tackled him, don't get me wrong,it was a good goal but not as good as people make it out to be.
My favourite night ever as a United fan - A cold Wednesday night under the floodlights at Villa Park, business end of the season, a cracking atmosphere of passion and eager anticipation, the two heavyweights of English football slugging it out in a classic match decided by the greatest goal FA Cup goal ever scored. Sheer magic. Football simply doesnt get any better than this
glory days of football, whether your a United fan or not. The Prem in them days was fucking awesome, games with passion, English and foreign players alike knowing what it means to play for your team, fans not being treated like shit and being ripped off, attacking and exciting football being championed by managers unlike today, where its all about staying in the league at any cost. fuck me footballs shit these days
there'll never be a better goal scored in the FA Cup, ever. Especially when your team is down to ten men, under the cosh, and they've all played 110 minutes of football already. Gives me tingles every time he gets past the last defenders!
Two fantastic teams at each others throats!!! Brilliant game! I'll never forget that Giggs goal...I was screaming for him to pass it.....sooooo glad he didn't lol!
Great match! When Rooney can score a goal like that, still be playing at the top level aged 37 and clean up his behaviour he may be worth half Giggs' value. Yashin, Banks, Schmeichel the 3 best goalies ever.
the good old days when the players didnt sook after a tackle... if the ref gave that penalty now you would have almost every player in his face complaining
I miss the days where it was all United + Arsenal. About 7 years ago when Chels just started to buy everyone the premiership just lost its heart.. thats when players started to dive, cheating became more popular and its more of a fannys game then a mans game. I really miss the days when the matches were more personal.. Such as Keane vs Viera and stuff, now its more about who can dive more.. RIP Mans football 1800 - 2002/3 :/
but before 2003 Arsenal had a whole team of cheaters like Vieira, Cambpell, Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Henry, Cole, Pires etc..not to mention there where many divers back then aswell..the "Chelsea ruined football" is the cry of fear used by United that someone else but them can win the league..United bought every single player they could get just to prevent others from getting them. If anything United ruined football along with SKY!
Call them whatever derivative you want. They're making tons of money doing what they love. What are you doing besides whining and bitching on Youtube?
@boeershna im not being funny, but how are man united 'scared' of being over taken by chels.. what have they won that united havnt? the champions league.. nope? more premier leagues? nope.. more FA's.. nope? Chels will never be as big a club as man united..
Man united have history, 4 league cups, 11 FA cups, 18 leagues, 3 Euro cups/champs league, and the only team in England to win the International cup (twice). what have chels won in there history..?

this is when the FA Cup used to mean something before teams started buying the Premier League and the Champions League ruined domestic football. Still one of the best games I've ever seen.

arsenal had a chance to bury this game and they didnt against man utd you cant take those kind of risks man they had more players and a penalty...bergkamp was a great striker but shit penalty taker you get quite a few of those but exciting match...i wish beckham still stayed longer at man utd doee...we havent had a player like him in a while with that kind of style to his game

This game is the perfect football match, for me. It's got everything you could want - three brilliant goals, a red card, a saved penalty... it's dirty but the ref allows play to flow - This is English football at its best.

"cut arsenal to ribbons"
akashdoshi85 1 year ago
The goal from Giggs was great, but it was more down to arsenals defensive mistakes then his dribbling or fancy footwork. They backed off too much and gave him too much space to score the goal. However, the finish was great. Its was a great goal, but not one of the greatest.

shut the fuck up zzzaa0990 you daft cunt this is imcredible! eira tried tackling him, Keown tried tackling him, Dixon tried tackling him TWICE and i think it was Petit that tried tackling him last with the slide then he fires it past Seaman! this is the best goal ever!
you silly biased twat!

I'm sick of these players demanding £200,000 a week and still not playing to their full potential. Whereas there has never been anything in the press about Ryan Giggs complaining about wages. True professional, true role model, true footballer and a true football lover. United should retire the number 11 shirt when Giggsy retires!
nobby22 1 year ago 42
There was little between these two teams, this is about as good as english football gets!!
Kallytom 1 year ago
No matter what way or age Giggs retire, he will still be remembered as the most legendary player United every had, or even the most legendary player UK or the world has ever seen!
Ryan Giggs, you make my heart warm.. I love you..
Best from Denmark, hope you'll play till your 40 atleast :).. <3

A good game but not a great game.

In modern football a foul would have been given against Bergkamp in the build-up to the Anelka disallowed goal...another reason why football is less entertaining now.

1948richo 1 year ago
what rubbish zzzaaa0990 is talking giggs goal was far better than villas his goal was rightly voted the best f a cup goal of all time and there as been some good ones includeing villas what about ronnie radfords goal for hereford against newcastle in 1972 you say your a colchester fan what about the ex ipswich and englands brace of goals against one of the best teams in the country at that time 1971 u hate manu
1948richo 1 year ago

Ruthypops1 1 year ago
there'll never be a better goal scored in the FA Cup, ever. Especially when your team is down to ten men, under the cosh, and they've all played 110 minutes of football already. Gives me tingles every time he gets past the last defenders!

And this was the day when Sir Ryan Giggs decided that enough is enough.

RIP Mans football 1800 - 2002/3 :/
piemaneatalot 1 year ago 65
@piemaneatalot Keane vs. Viera, the memorable match at Highbury was 2005
bdhammi 1 year ago
@piemaneatalot
but before 2003 Arsenal had a whole team of cheaters like Vieira, Cambpell, Ljungberg, Bergkamp, Henry, Cole, Pires etc..not to mention there where many divers back then aswell..the "Chelsea ruined football" is the cry of fear used by United that someone else but them can win the league..United bought every single player they could get just to prevent others from getting them. If anything United ruined football along with SKY!

toophatpoyo 1 year ago
@boeershna im not being funny, but how are man united 'scared' of being over taken by chels.. what have they won that united havnt? the champions league.. nope? more premier leagues? nope.. more FA's.. nope? Chels will never be as big a club as man united..
Man united have history, 4 league cups, 11 FA cups, 18 leagues, 3 Euro cups/champs league, and the only team in England to win the International cup (twice). what have chels won in there history..?
