HARDLY ever. This event was sponsored, so it was a special exception. Good thing they did this while 8 was there, because now there aren't any active steamers for the Sierra Railroad dinner trains.
Yes it would be nice, but the only way I could see it ever happening is if the Sierra Railroad still owned #3. The Sierra Railroad and Railtown haven't been getting along lately. The railroad doesn't want Railtown trains operating over track that they don't lease trackage rights for, and if #3 were to run with those trains, she'd have to be leased, and that will NEVER happen. Plus, #3 could only pull at most 3 of the cars, and its just about a 6 car train. It'd be nice though.
I just told you. The only relationship the Sierra Railroad wants with Railtown, is maintaining the section of track that they use. They don't want to use Railtown owned equipment, just their own. I'm not sure how else to explain it. The Sierra doesn't own the track they use, but they do maintain it, and that's the only reason really that Sierra Railroad hasn't revoked their trackage rights.
How often do they run doubleheaders?

Why not have the #3 pull the dinner trains? That would be nice.
