The truth is that Israel knows that Iran with nukes is an 'existential' threat to themselves. That means that Iran will continue developing nukes and will, consequently, pay the price. But the regime in Iran will absorb the cost and become ever more hardened, like a cancer-spreading tumor only becomes hardened if it is not surgically removed. The Iranian regime will oppress its own people even more severely while screaming out that their hand was forced because of what Israel represents.

No it wouldn't, Israel has nuclear deterrence and Iran would never have a direct military retaliation, but Hezbollah, Hamas, and other proxies of Iran could greatly destabilize Israel. If Western nations support Israel's military actions then Iran could also greatly threaten stability in Iraq and Afghanistan. Such an attack would only strengthen the regime.

Are the Israeli soldiers weak? During the 2nd Lebanon war in 2006, Israel retaliated against Hezbollah for their military actions against Israel. Israel was able to knock out their long range missiles, but had a hard time targeting the smaller ones. These smaller rockets can be launched quickly, and the only way to stop these would be to go in and kill the launchers one by one. Israel could do that, but they want to avoid the bad press it would bring them. Hezbollah is dug in, underground.

Israel, itself, talks about 'not winning the 2nd Lebanon war.' Perhaps this self-deprecation helps convey an image of weakness and helplessness to the world. However, I would guess (speculation on my part), that if Russia didn't have nuclear weapons; and, if the sides were even, in terms of numbers of fighters; and, it was strictly a conventional war between Israel and Russia, that the Israelis would win. Watch out in the coming months: Israel will destroy Iran's nuclear sites.

Sorry I couldn't reply in more detail. I tried leaving a comment earlier which was quite long, but it met up with an error and was lost. Well, you say that the Palestinians got a shitty deal. Maybe we can go into it again, tomorrow. My reply for now is: yes, it must seem that way to people in that region. They missed out from the beginning because the other Arab countries wanted to keep the hate against the Israelis going. They needed a pretext for continuing trying to destroy them.
