  • I drive a Blade Electron every day and love it. I never run out of charge, the aircon keeps it cool in summer and it happily carries four adults. Sure, it's a basic small car but it's comfortable and direct action against CO2 emissions. Yes, I have solar power too for added low emissions. No, I'm not a Green.

  • Ah, no need for electic car, we'll find another source.

And all the extra coal we'll need for charging electric cars, it's quite ugly to.

    I'll stick with my V8

  • We need a multiplicity of sources. Even the car itself can generate it's own electricity from inbuilt solar panels and multi-dynamos generating electricity from the wheels in motion aswell as plugin recharge and instant battery replacement as standard of excellence.

  • Considering the fact that solar companies are selling units without a battery system for legal reasons to protect electricians working on the grid. How do you recharge your car from solar overnight ? you can't Solar is 12/7 not 24/7. Geothermal is the ONLY green clean sustainable energy capable of supplying baseload electricity demands.

  • i get sick if i hear so many talking bull shit , all good and cheap electric car are finished build in europ japan and china , but the gov. let it not in also cheap small 3 wheel cars where runing cheap on fuel 3 l for 100km . so why need the gov. so long to go with the time .

  • The Australian Government can start the roll by buying ALL of their government fleet cars with these cars.

  • nice electric car.... the car of the future. I always see when countries like UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and other countries have the steer of their cars on the right side unlike in countries like America, Canada, Europe and other countries have the steer of the car on the left side

  • Everything in motion generates heat silly woman. Refrigerant works differently than any other fluid in that is gives off cold energy after dispersal of its generated heat.

  • GREAT

  • why dont they build an electric truck

  • @dunemoonbeam They Have.. the Japanese have done it

  • no pollution? I spos the electrical companies are using electricity to generate electricity also? lol

I wonder whats more eco., the petrol used to propel an automobile or the fuel used to generate the electricity to charge this car

either way its not more 'eco' but may provide a more smog free dwelling area but create a greater strain on our power companies

who knows., it just may happen in australia, we have really no investment in petroleum and its redirecting money to our power companies

  • 9 hours recharge???????? BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FREDDY!!!

  • that a pretty fast charge....actually

  • If you listened a little bit more:

    15 Amp = 7 hours

    32 Amp = 4 hours

...all the way up to 10-15 minute recharge.

  • 15 amp; not bad. 32 amp; unavailable to most households.-- 30 amp is the max and at 240 volts (not the 110 volts suggested by someone else) that is a lot of power and greenhouse gases to be generated by the electricity supplier who, in Australia, will be producing that power with sub-standard coal. It solves nothing, unless the government looks at what is being done (slowly) in the Mohbe Desert, U.S.A. and builds a large solar system in the Simpson Desert, Australia. -- Less is idiotic.!

  • @viking1au

If you are comparing it on that level, how much greenhouse gas is created just delivering the fuel to run your car now? Consider extraction, refinement, and delivery?

You cannot get something from nothing. At least with EV's one has the opportunity to be energy independent and utilise green energy such as solar.

  • Probably about the same, truth be known; and I do not suggest we get power for nothing; I don't know where you got that silly idea; but energy created by the Sun is as green as one can get, although we still have to pay for the infrastructure & upkeep, but it would be green & indeed is what some parts of the USA are moving toward now. -- The whole world should be looking more seriously at solar; also preserving trees, which will help soak up CO2.

  • Sorry for sounding a little bit aggressive. I think the point I was trying to make is that everything has its drawbacks - even solar.

I am ecstatic that we are progessing on the electric vehicle front becuase it has the potential to shift the reliance away from non-renewable energy.

    The key word is potential.

Preserving trees is a good thing in my opinion (more from an ecosystem standpoint), rather than a carbon sequestration argument.

    Cheers

  • @viking1au , 9 hour recharge is with charging via a regular 110 volt outlet. That outlet can only output so much power, usually 1875 watts max. Don't blame the car!

Plug it into a clothes dryer outlet and it will recharge fast.

  • I don't know where you get your facts. -110volts IS NOT STANDARD voltage in Australia! (Nor an option). --240 volts is the standard, which means they are chewing a bit of power to charge this sucker. -- They have obviously taken care of other stuff like power steering; cooling will use a bit of power, as will heating, but at 240 volts to charge it, more work needs to be done.

  • Cheers, Aussies! I'm in Los Angeles, USA, and have been struggling to convert a BMW coupe to full battery power for several months now, almost finished... there are many people here that have done or are doing the same thing, and if the big car makers won't do it for us, we can do it ourselves.

It's been taking a terribly long time and more than it should have only because when I started I had no experienced help, but if I had to do it again, and had all the parts ready could do in an week.

  • Do us a favour & post a link to it if you put it up on Youtube. - It will be good to look at.

  • how much are these cars? i can assume they're pretty expensive!

as for me, mass transit is the way to go!

  • Googled -- >> Blade Electric Vehicle $39,500 with a 3 year warranty.

  • Shame they did it to a Hyundai Getz aslong as the production one isnt a Getz it will be fine

  • Why did that stupid bitch follow that noisy 4-wheeler everywhere?

  • It's good to see the future cant be stopped.. In the future there will be no more retail shops selling or should I say forcing us to buy buy buy shit we dont need.

  • You can convert your own car..theres tons of articles on the web

  • Awesome!..God Bless..

  • Gasoline's getting pricey in USA.People are making changes.

  • lol in USA? they are pricey everywhere :P

  • @namniekib come to Europe and you will see what expensive gasoline mean ....

  • the whole country could have its electricity needs met with solar energy farms.

the problem is the polititions are in bed with oil gas and lumber.hell hemp can be used to manufacture woodlike products of any kind.the oil alone in hemp can be used to make its own bonding resin for composite woods.

weve got a whole country out there to grow it in for biofuels too.the polititions are backwoods whores

  • at least the US is finally taking a lead. the Chevy VOLT in 2010 and the Tesla "WhiteStar" sedan in 2010 under $40K. Thank god america is finally doing something worthwhile. check out teslamotors(dot)com. its only in the US though :/

  • Not a fan of the US, However they are comendable on their EV efforts, whish I could say anything for Australia in that regard.

  • I'm hopeful but I can't believe it until they're delivered in decent numbers and with no tricks like the last time.

  • Hey, how about taking over the Mitsubishi factory and start pumping them out?!

  • About Time!

I'm sick of hearing that crap"10 to 15yrs".

Electric cars would be here, now! if the Australian government would let them in!

I got sick of waiting and I am building my own. You can too.

  • @ghostjaguar Have you heard about "better place"? If not, search for it! You'll like it;)

  • @ghostjaguar Correct. All our politicians are bribed by the Oil companies to put road blocks in the path of the emergence of the electric car. Once people transition to the electric cars the days of visiting petrol stations are over (except to inflate the tyres). So we can see why oil companies want to delay the fully electric car in Australia.

It is now 2011 and yet we don't have fully electric cars in Australia. Something is amiss!

    JNR

  • Solar charging is the way to go in OZ!

  • omg the Democrats are still alive.

Democrats for Senate in 20..and.. umm.. when's the next election?

I do want to apologise, though. There were 3 "Democrats" to choose from, and I know my friends picked the wrong one when it came to the crunch. And others chose Greens and Family First - due to the ties to what their titles could mean. You guys should seriously rename yourselves to something us dummies can pick up. Like "The Senate You Actually Want" or "The Good Guys".. etc
