It DOES exist. Check for "aircone". It's made by an italian company: Comelli, and reportedly works quite fine. The chute is expelled form a container under the seat, by compressed air.
Casualties also accur on powered paragliders.
What you see here is acrobatics. It's not "normal" flight.
@coopmuch56 Hang Gliding and paragliding are similar in safety, paramotoring is about 100 times safer than both of them. First the paramotor doesn't need or usually get flown in active thermic conditions right near the ground and WPPGA certified paramotors like the Flat Top add 16-18 inches of crumple zone which makes a huge improvement in safety in a crash. Zero people have ever died on Flat Top paramotors as of 4/27/2011.
@lepikhin I'm a hang glider pilot as well. Your logic just failed miserably. I recommend paramotors because hang gliders are a pain in the butt. That's why I stopped flying them. It takes a good 30-45 minutes to setup and then the same to tear down. Hang gliders just don't make sense any more when you can have your paraglider ready to go in less than 26 seconds. All a paramotor and you can launch from McDonalds and fly hundreds of miles. Flat Top Paramotors rule:).
There happen more accidents in hang gliding then in Paragliding. This is related to it's higher flight-speed. Which results in worse accidents when something goes wrong with the landing. Paragliding and powered Paragliding are about the same. As imasuper0308 said, Powered Paragliders are not usually flown in active thermic conditions, but they're more often flown near to the ground, so you have less safety-height for the chute. If you check the weather in advance all three are safe.
@IkarusFlight Actually paramotoring with WPPGA certified gear is by far the safest. It is about 100 times safer than paragliding. Zero deaths have ever occured with WPPGA certified equipment. Paramotoring is the ticket, the motor gives you the ability to fly in safer conditions and to stay high in rougher air. Then it also gives you a huge 57 inch roll cage with a properly designed WPPGA certified paramotor which adds a ton of safety over just a paragliding harness.
I really wonder why the pg manufacturers DONT install "luff lines" (i think this is the term) at the edges , like they do at hanggliders (aluminum bars supporting the wing. If they existed, the chute wouldnt fold. It is not necessary to be heavy. Maybe plastic easy to bend long rods.
What chances i have to sell the idea lol ?
Is it a good idea? If yes please inform me to panten
@peterustinof Because the wing SHOULD fold. You want it to fold. If it doesn't fold, it stays rigid instead, flies UNDER you or spins or stalls and then starts dropping like a rock. When it folds, your weight pulls the bit that's still flying into shape, the rest reinflates, and you fly away.
@eb352mm That is a totally uncertified acro glider and not a standard super safe glider like the K2. Watch the video of the same test done on the K2 and it is a completely different outcome.
I am a Pro Skydiver and although my industry isn't billion dollar either there are still those dedicated to making things safer and better, especially when you look at now compared to years ago. There are a lot of what if situations and things that look like they can be done better on videos, but sometimes in real life with a lot of people using that idea might not work well for most.
@MgpMontville I thought so too. But after doing my research i think that cut away is not an option. There are big differences between Skydiver's parachute and PG's reserve. Most accidents accour close to the ground and the reserve is ment to open very quickly (most people say it needs 50m, but in my opinion the sooner the better because some times you need 51m if you know what i mean ). And reserve will tear on free fall. The harness is not suitable. And so on ... Cheers, and blue skies!
why isnt there some kind of 'airbag' kit for paragliders that blows out the reserve under high pressure, say backwards and away, maybe down, from the seat of the harness. Seems to me the chance of getting tangled is pretty high, especially as you cant cut the wing away! The inflation of the reserve is pretty slow for gliders as the main wing stays partially inflated surely a fast ejection will help inflate?
@seymourbutt312 It is really just about volume. This isn't a billion dollar industry so you just don't see piles of money going into development. The only super advanced equipment in the sport is the Flat Top paramotor. Nobody has ever died on one of those.
@seymourbutt312 There is always a chance that a reserve can fail to open for some reason. Avasports is recently developing a reserve system which "throws" the reserve into the air, like in a distance of 20m. As far as I know there are some chemicals involved, yet I am not sure. But if you increase the complexity of the system, the possibility of false openings and opening fails increase, so does the weight of the harness. I think thats why.
No you can't. You don't usually need to. It is just that particular scenario where you are spinning backwards around your glider where the reserve goes right into dead air. Cutting away would work but the system doesn't really exist yet for paragliding and has it's own issues. A longer bridle on one of the reserves should have fixed this issue as it would have opened past the dead air.
Now what would be fun would be to have one of your horses tow you up on a paraglider. Got it trained so well it completely responds to voice commands?
You would also love the S-Trike I developed. Check out some of my videos. With the S-Trike you wouldn't have to carry a motor, just hit the throttle & go. Now if you could harness your horse up really well I would love to paraglide with a horse. Lay the glider out behind the horse and take off down a hill using the horse to launch. Hmm.
What dhv rating is this wing? somewhere around a 2-3 or a 3?...Come up to Central(Bend) Oregon and fly Pine Mtn. The Local fly club is the dessert air riders, google it. You would have to wait til the spring time unless you want to fly off Mt Bachelor. I have a couple short clips, just click my user name.
The Morpheus is a "show glider". It will do all the acro but it is a bit safer than the gforce. The gforce is seriously wild, the Morpheus is pretty tame comparatively.
There were numerous risers twists so I couldn't stall it. I could have possibly worked them out while flying backwards around the glider like that but I decided to throw. Now that I look back I think I'll try much much harder to work it out before throwing although had I wasted any time at all I would have hit the water before getting a reserve out. Not as simple a choice as it looks. Good input though.
No it was not possible with the configuration that I had. I have been working on fixing that though as it sure would have helped to cut away and have my reserve pulled as I fell away from my main.
I am a Powered Parachute Pilot. I did not know you guys were flying like that. Man, loops in a chute? Go figure. See my PowerChute video. So if You want to die? See my boss first.
My apologies. I did not mean the want to die see the boss comment as derogatory. I am impressed you can do loops and acro. But it is currently past my comfort level and equipment capabilities. My apologies for any offense in the earlier comment, though true.
Done, I added a special thanks to Cameron on the text part. Of course I should also thank Ann for pulling me out and Enleau for sharing the knowledge that saved my butt.
