  • wait.. is it Four years in present time, or four years when this video was posted....so my question.. did he start playing since 2002 or 2006? :P

    I guess 2002?

  • @K1LL14N sorry here he's been playing 2-3 years and he started at 14 and he was born in 1990 so i guess at this current moment in time he's been playing 6 years but on this vid only 2-3 years.

  • excellent.

  • Gareth pearson is appearing at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff on Sunday 30th May as part of a NEWSOUNDWALES Welsh Showcase.

  • Not sure what some of these ppl below me are talking about. Gareth writes some pretty good stuff as well.

Does anyone know what his right hand technique is? It looks like he's sticking his pinky out.. I'm not familiar with this style but would like to practice it. Any input is appreciated.

  • looks like he plays a lot like tommy emmanuel. tommy tends to anchor his pinky to the guitar when he plays, check out some of his "boom chick" lessons on youtube and it'll kind of explain what this guy is doing here

  • I've had students that took off just about this quick before. Yes, there are people who just "get it" and they are up and running at the speed of a 10 year+ study in just months. The people posting things here like "lack of musical talent", "no soul" should get out of their little towns in redneckville and actually see what's out there in this world before they become even MORE of a backseat driving, know it all that just doesn't get that everyone else in not stuck in the same rut as they are.

  • Nice retort, no-brain but you wasted your time insulting me instead of talking about the actual issue, which suggests to me that you don't have clue what you are talking about either. Most guitar teachers are teaching more than playing because they are better teachers/guitar players than musicians. They like to wow people with their ability to boost their ego, and hardly ever play because they enjoy the sound of the guitar, but rather people they enjoy the applause they get from sycophants.

  • You, me, the guy in the video and everyone else will eventually be picked up, placed inside of a box, dropped 6 feet into the earth and forgotten about forever. Until then I (and hopefully as many others as possible that are willing) will be walking above the earth and living, actually making things happen... not spending our time on the internet writing mean spirited and cowardly remarks to each other that only aim to make us more worthy of our eventual and mutual fate.

  • This guy relies on technical ability, to make up for his lack of actual musical talent.I liken this to the Irish limerick of the music world - a gimmick. There is no soul, its just a guy bashing out as many notes as he can without overloading it. The actual sound is terrible and it upsets my ears,my brain isn't able to recognise a note in there because its being bombarded with so much at once.

He's spent all his time studying guitar and none studying music. Great guitarist - terrible musician

  • all my appreciation for this guy, who is obviously a great talent and possibly the first musician who has managed to imitate tommy emmanuel properly. but please guys, use your brains, there's no way someone can be this good after only 4 years of practice from scratch: supposing it's possible, there's no way you can be this smooth (watch his left hand and tell me if it's a 4-years-trained hand).

PS: before replying insulting and swearing, read, read, read again.. i did not write "he sucks"..

  • You did not write that "he sucks" but you are insulting everyone else. You can tell us to "use our brains" all you want but you see, this CAN be a 4yr trained hand, he CAN be this good after "only" 4 years of practice. Have you considered the possibily of Gareth not being your "average 2 hour practice per week" kind of player? Of Gareth being a GIFTED player? Most people wouldn't be that good after 4 years, but saying that it's impossible... It IS possible. Peace.

  • @maajob Actually he did only play for 4 years here, I read an interview about him and he said he was possessed by the instrument practicing 7hrs during school and 14hrs during the weekend and when he was about 17 he wanted to practice 14hrs a day and so dropped out of sixth form college in order to pursue his dreams.

He only started playing at 14, shows what talent and dedication can do eh?

  • We went to a concert of his in The Hague (he played with Jan Akkerman), it was absolutely INCREDIBLE! I hope you're gonna have a lot of succes Gareth you were AMAZING!

  • It's Jerry Reed's 'A little bit of blues', played at a fantastic rate. Excellent stuff.

  • Does anyone know what the song is called ?

  • wow, much better than that Kieran Murphy fella

  • ive jusg come back from meeting him about n hour ago. He actually put my fingers on the right guitar notes and he kept looking at me in that wayy!! I love him sooo much!

  • hes my mate every yaer hes at the penrith guitar festival nd we spend th day together its great apart frm he makes me carry his gear around

  • Yea he just gets better every time I hear him play and it's always amazing.

    A natural.

  • The sickening thing is, he's about a million times better than this now. :(

    Truly awesome.

  • He said he only played guitar for only four years. WOW!

  • Dont think you understand the dedication it takes to get this good. Yea if you spent the time you might be able to but does everyone have the will power and the love for the music to do it? No.

  • geetarwanabe Its not true that anyone who spent enough time could get this good. I have spent more time on guitar than this young man has lived. I am not as good as he is. To get as good as him requires more than time. He has something I can't buy for myself (inate talent).and time won't make up the difference.

  • @artdever You are correct - i'm in the same boat... the fingers just don't wanna play guitar for a living even if the heart does!!!

  • @geetarwanabe Ah yes, the old "he's a great guitar player, therefore he must spend an unreasonable amount of time playing" argument, widely recognized as flattery in the form of bitter jealousy.

  • This guy is amazing!! He came to my school but I couldn't get an autograph :C

  • he came to my school too I didnt get an autograph either though

  • this kid is insane!!!

  • I have transcribed (into tablature) A Little Bit Of Blues from Gareth's fantastic CD. It is almost identical to this version.

If you can find your way to my website, the tab is there. I'm sure it will turn up on Google in a day or two.

  • Very good !

  • here "bluesmoke90" could u send me any tabs u have for him?please?

  • i have a tab for this but it misses out the little funky bit in the middle and there is no proper ending in the tba like this version? can anyone help me out?

  • Absolutely amazing, I want the Tab! Best version of this I have ever heard, and I am Jerry nut! won't rest til I learn it lol

  • What is this piece called?

  • "A Little Bit Of Blues"...A Jerry Reed tune, recorded by

    Chet Atkins.

  • R-r-r-right. :)

  • is this one of his compositions?exellent

  • the class thing about gareth is that he isn't above us mere mortals!! i've met him and got his autograph and talked etc. and he is seriously one of the coolest guys i've ever met, if i was as good as him, i would be totally full of myself! but he just takes it all in his stride!

  • Umm.. I think Gareth is pretty full of himself. :P I've met him as well, had a jam for an hour or so and he said himself that he was really cocky etc.

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention that I think it's totally fair enough. As he is such an amazing player.

  • yea i know what you mean, but i meant it in the way that he can actually sit down and give you some time!

    sorry :D

  • going 2 c him on the 8th of june, eating with him before hand as well, so HAH 2 u all

  • This guy is double good and is obviously among the most talented acoustic guitar players around. Don't forget though that Davey Graham was playing like this 50 years ago and the rest of the world is only just beginning to catch up!! God bless Davey and all who tread in his wake.

  • i wen to school with gareth. he's always been sick!

  • Great at any age range!

  • Saw him in Worcester, uk and he was buzzing. Great confidence and ability! A big, big star of the future.

  • He's back in the Northeast of England on 23rd Feb at South Shields. I saw him open for Stefan Grossman last October - fantastic show.

  • this was an amazing gig jsut blew me away adn made me realize how far away from being a professional i am

uve got to have taped teh end jam if u have put it up now

  • That looks like a very comfortable guitar! and that kid can jamm

  • i got his autograph on his EP at tht gig in belfast he will be soo big in the future

  • i saw him last nite supporting tommy emanuel in belfast he was brilliant!!!

  • Awsome video, I was at this show and i had almost that exact view of the stage, so you must have been real close to me man, keep the vids comin!

  • Keep it going Hamlette. Don't forget the beer cooler in the TabPig HQ at CAAS next year! Have fun on the tour.

  • Wow! then you must be a hot, Hot, HOT player yourself or balls of brass! Congrats - when will we see you on Utube?

  • ive a friend who is pretty shit hot. Nothing like gareth and not even really a fingerstyle player but that doesnt stop you jamming with someone. You dont have to be as good as someone to play with them
