Can this device be rooted(the android version of jailbreak)? Apparently Google endorses this so I do not find this a bad thing. Also would this add the marketplace to the device? I'm thinking about getting this and I am not familiar with android however would like to do all the cool things it can do.
How much does it cost for Archos Android Tablet ? Also, How can you purchase ebooks on this device? How much is the Internet on this thing? What other features does this device hold?
I nearly bought the Archos 5g couple of years ago, then I got excited when this thing was announced, so I waited for this. But I didn't buy one because I heard about the Ipad coming out. I didn't buy an ipad because I am waiting for ipad2. So nearly 3 years down the line and I still don't have a tablet. But one thing I am glad I never spent £300 on one of these!
@Langly06 Most defiantly worth it. Its a great little device. You can also install the full Android market to get a better experience. The instructions for doing so are on the web.
You got some keywords for googling them ? Im thinking of getting me the Archos 10.1 and heard of a way to enable the normally not accessible Android market with it but could not find any real helpful informations on what to do.
Not having access to the market is the last thing that keeps from buying the Archos 10
The Aldiko app has some free books. But there is way for you to get over 5000 epub books for free. And I'm talking about bestsellers. So, with Aldiko, you don't have to pay a penny for books.
the archos supports all systems, Windows 7/XP/Vista, linux, android, mac etc. and the archos supports hd movies and about 50 formats, pictures can be watched by about 50megapixels etc.
Looks backlit. If that's the case then it would cause serious eye strain if you read for any amount of time. Looks slick but backlit is bad for the eyes of a reader.
That is just not true! I have read for years on a Palm T3 and the back light has never caused me the slightest discomfort. Although you may be getting eye strain does not mean that everyone does. Ebook readers are fine if you only read under a lamp or in the sunlight, but they work lousy on a bus in the morning or evening, when most people commute. I look forward to the pad computers coming out for the reading potential.
How would you compare the experience to a traditional e-book reader (like the kindle 2)?
I am interested in buying an e-book reader, but seeing that this also has a GPS, plays music, video, web browser, wifi, etc etc etc, I think would consider this internet tablet instead... what do you guys think?
@HetfieldHammetUlrich Ipod Touch starts at £189. Not a thousand dollars. Ipod Touch has one of the highest pixel density capacitive screens available. It also has iBooks and iTunes on boards for books, audio books, and comics right to the device wherever you are.
I don't doubt the Archos device is good. Archos makes some great stuff. I'm just saying it's nothing like the quality of an iPod Touch.
@HetfieldHammetUlrich sweet great review!! I just saw a review of it that didn't include ebook reading and ebooks is s a big feature that I'd use with this mini tablet! looks awesome!

@ChrisWalker2k I don't care about resistive. FOr me it's works and it don't cost thousand of dollars. This is clearly cheaper than the dumbPod.
