The music was Caught By The River by The Doves, and I chose it because it wasn't overly emotive but felt like it could lie in the background and still say something hopeful, or simple about the film - without distracting from watching it. I lived in Philippines. Poverty is a big problem but the phil poor are lazy. I found 3 jobs for 3 of them. They refused the jobs (salesman in internet shop) because the salary "too low" but it's normal salary in phil...They complain but when u propose them job, they refuse. they prefer easy money (ask) so what the fuck ??

I too find this hard to watch. In every nation there is always the poor. It sad to see the kids live in this way and will most likely growing up like their family, under the bridge. What ppl do not know is that they pay so little there. I consider myself poor living here in united states but watching this make me feel ashamed of calling myself poor. Yes I agree. I suppose the big difference is between 'religious institutions' and genuine people who want to help, and those people may or may not be Christians of course. Institutions like Roman Catholicism, Sancto di Christo (??) maybe get those benefits and tax breaks from the government etc but I know and hope that that doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't individuals within them who want to serve and help these urban poor communiites.

Slums like these are pretty common in urban areas in the Philippines. But, the contrast between the very rich and the very poor is much more vivid in Manila. People from these areas benefits from charitable work such as these. However, religious institutions benefits also from donations and tax breaks from the country. I don't know how much of that really goes back to the people.

Truly shocking experience! My wife is from over there, so I'm quite familiar with widespread poverty, but I never thought it was THAT bad. I am surprised they are still alive in those dreadful conditions!

This is a group of squatters living under a bridge. The river that runs under the bridge is highly polluted with raw sewage flowing into it. There is no electricity or proper sanitation for the people living under. Due to the unhygienic conditions many of the children have skin diseases and in November 2005 a child under the bridge died! The part at the doctor's surgery shows the little girl being weighed. She weighs 1 1/2 stone and is 5 years old!
