  • Maybe it's malfunction because maybe it's testing the system and maybe the test failed so it goes on and off up and downfor another test too lmao

  • I been here! The bells dont sound like this no more! They toke a track our there for more info!

  • how does this happen

  • makes me feel so confident in railway safety systems now

  • Just wondering. But how many tracks where there at that Crossing?

  • @TrainfanCasey8 there are four tracks.

  • the bell sounds like a spoon on a window hiting

  • the bell sounds horrible

  • You never know maybe it was doing that to stay unfrozen

  • Either it is a malfunction, or someone could just be opening and closing a circuit in the railroad house, or people could be somehow shunting the track, although opening the circuit is shutning the track as well. they could be pre-testing it.

  • pennsylvani road needs shut down for wile if it does again tell 1800 nubber the bars just when off on it it came backon again i do dont like this train going that way trains can you check out

  • Salt on the crossing mixing with water and creating a conductive path between the rails?

Very much doubt it was train detection system electrical components.

  • People passing by as crossing guards coming down: HOLY SHIT WTF?!?!

Seems like it's trigger sensitive but on the road instead of the tracks.

  • nice cowbells

  • the crossing was probly bored and wanted too mess with the cars =P

  • the snow messed it up to where if a car crosses over it it thinks its a train so the city needs to reset it or fix it

  • what kind of bell was that

  • Kinda miss the old aging sound of the Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bells...but, some types of e-bells are starting to grow on me, especially the Safetran Type 1 E-Bell. These Bells sound like they are beyond need of adjustment, but replacement, glad to hear they indeed were replaced. :)

  • The bells on the cantilever sound like someone hitting a metal bucket with a shovel.

  • Was this fixed or replaced

  • wat bell is that, kind of sounds like the bell is broken

  • is that bell supossed to sound like that? also i can see that leading to an accident

  • Nice catch!

Poor bell is beat to death.

Salt water providing sufficient conductive path between rails?

What did you say at 2:37?

  • That is ONE SCREWED UP CROSSING!

  • uhh weird

  • wtf

  • Looks like in the movie maximum overdrive when the car drives across the tracks and the crossing turns on

  • They aren't malfunctioning, it's just a bunch of invisible trains.

  • sounds like that bell is rusted out. or has a hole in it...

  • @DH082008 doesnt matter anymore, they replaced it with an electronic bell

  • its maxium over drive lol

  • Which track ended up malfunctioning?

  • weired

  • I use to live just a few blocks down from these tracks!! Miss hearing the train

  • How do you always "catch" this stuff happening?

  • It's easy. I just drive by each crossing a few times a week...and you're almost always able to catch something like this at one of them...as there are 4 different track circuts at each crossing...and just do the math as to how many things could possibly go wrong with 50 or so circuits through this line here.

  • WT thats weird.i live in a city and i never seen that happen.well i crossed some rail roads but i didnt saw that.but i felt like i heard that noise for a few sec LOLOLOZL

  • i think the bell is broke :P

  • They changed that old WCH bell, now its a electronic bell

  • Yeah, I know. I was there when they replaced it. It now is a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell. :)

  • They changed it again. I don't know what type it is now

  • @Master784 ya i hate the electronic bell =(

  • @Master784 Fuck e bells man.

  • I love the old fashioned sound of that WCH bell. It sounds like a cow bell! At first I thought that the sensors were so bad that the cars were activating the signals.

  • Me too. Too bad the bell is gone now... :(

  • NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @owensri2 The bell was clearly on its death throes.

  • it happend to us it done its jobe then stade on for 10 more minites they had to cut the power at that unit

  • awesome video

  • that sounds like a RACO bell that went bad

  • that bell needs to be fixed

  • funky ass bell

  • the bell sounds like a tin can and a fork

  • lol That's a good one!!

  • @computersmasher, i agree, at first its funny then it starts driving me bonkers

  • ha ha

  • It looks like a motion sensor RXR gate

  • Did they fix the way a bell is supposed 2 ring? In other words stay ringing until it goes up.

  • What do you mean?

  • This is the way I'm used 2: Bell rings until gate goes up.

  • Actually, the correct way is for the bell to ring until the gate is down all the way, and then it shuts off. I don't care for that way, but I do like it to ring the way you like. For some reason, CN doesn't wire the bell that way.

  • I'm used to that way too. That's how it is here in Romulus, but some of the older signals will ring when the gate comes down and then it stops, but you here a soft clicking sound after that.

  • Really? I've never known signals to do anything but ring the entire time. At least here in Wisconsin... the bells begin ringing when the lights start... and continue during the train and until the gates come all the way back up.

  • WOW!

  • Thats strange,

  • lol wow

what a fucked up crossing ! lmao

    must've been fun recording this ! :D

  • bad bell

  • Does it have something to do with the cold?

  • The problem is road salt in the "island" section of the crossing. That's the section of rail that is in the road. The BIG problem with salting roads at crossings is that the salt gets under the crossing surface and in time enough builds up that it will conduct electricity. This makes the crossing controler think that it sees a train and naturaly it reacts. It's more common among Safetran crossing controlers then any other type.

  • How many signals lights it needs n i cout must be over 3 railroad tracks there...well what may cause it cold enough to mess any system up

  • There are 5 tracks at this crossing, but 2 tracks are covered by the first set of signals. It wasn't the cold, but the electronics that control the signals in the case.

  • lol, i bet it was for a train to stop so the car could go on by, lol!!

  • By any chance ..do you use a high -def video camera ? I've been uploading videos , but the quality has been quite poor.Yours look awesome !

  • No, I don't use a high-def video camera. I just have a regular Sony Handycam DVD camcorder. It does take pretty good quality videos. YouTube tends to downgrade the quality quite a bit. The original video that's on my computer before I uploaded it is very clear.

  • I've actually got the same camcorder, but the quality is nowhere near the same as yours. Im having a heck-of -a-time trying to figure out how to keep the quality once i've uploaded it to Youtube...

  • Has this crossing been fixed or are there STILL malfunctions?

  • It's fixed.

  • That bell sounds like a cowbell!

  • Train crossings malfunction when it's cold. The part on the tracks that tells the gates when the train is coming freezes to the track sometimes. Therefor it malfuntions.

  • Not really. There is no part to freeze to the tracks. It is all done by electrical signals sent down the tracks. This particular day, the detection cards inside the relay case were screwed up. :)

  • I don't care if there is a malfunction or not, those cars are stupid for running the crossing! If the lights are flashing, the road is closed, no matter what!

  • ha ha ha ha ha lol the gate's going into a fit lol this is gooooooooooood :P :)

  • We have a set of railway signals near my house and it is funny because when you go there it rings for because there is another crossing which is synced with the one near me a few hundred meter down the line, so when cars go over the one down the line, the near my house set off.

  • When the signal activated when cars went over it then stopped, it reminded me of the movie Maximum Overdrive where that happened. Those signals need to be fixed or there's going to be MORE accidents.

  • Could have road salt cause this too?

  • No, not on that particular day. Anyways, today (February 7, 2008)I went by there, and the same track was malfunctioning again! This time, it was due to the salt and slush in the island, or by the roadway. It just needed the voltage adjusted to compensate for the lowered resistance.

  • Can you upload the vid of that day if you have one?

  • Sorry, didn't have my camcorder with me that day. It wasn't nothing special, just the gates were staying down like Antoine St. was.

  • There are these ones by my house I don't check these ones they aren't in my Quarter but the people that work on that crossing ore really bad and they have these bells and they go off about ever 10 - 15 minutes... They get really annoying... And one old man got so fucking pissed that he ran into the signal and broke the whole damn thing it was funny... he got out and was all and i quote "These goddamn things i didn't see this! You! You! You! YOOUUUU did this... i was staring like WTF! me? hahaha

  • That's going to get people killed and that is why people are getting to the point that they don't believe in the signals when a train comes and takes their chances running in front of a train.

  • I was driving by there today and the signal went off and the bell sounds shot when you there i like the WCH bell better than the newer bells. so do you know of any other WCH bells in the area, just wonderin?

  • it looks like when a car go by it it activatis call BNSF or UP or whoever is in charge!

  • Yeah, I called CN, that's whos tracks it is. It was a faulty calibration on the motion sensor cards in the signal case. The cars had nothing to do with it.

  • Sounds like the WCH Mechaincal Bell at 39th St in Tampa.

  • Sounds like someone is hitting a pot and pan together for the bell. Also I noticed there's like 3-4 distinct crossings within a quarter mile of each other?

  • Sounds like the bell is shot.

  • It is. Sounds like a birds nest is in it or something is clogging it.

  • Jeez every day seems to be your lucky day capturing all of these malfunctions? keep up the good work and vids man.

  • Yeah, this usually never happens.
