I want to thank you for your videos. I don't have autism like your son but I do have aspergers. I am a 31 year old male. I have no family history of seizures as far as I know. I don't have health insurance so I can't afford to go get tested. And I know no one on here can really diagnose me but I just want honest opinions because this is something that really concerns me. I always start off with this really weird feeling that radiates throughout my entire body. I can't really describe the weird
One of these days the ignorance will be gone. Everyone will have a cousin or a neighbor or even a child just like this young man. My son is nearly 15 and very similar. He has knots on the front and back of his head from banging. His seizures started a year ago and have not even been diagnosed yet! Not for my lack of trying. Doctors out there actually have a "no autism" policy. Once there is full awareness people will understand that life is life and our kids deserve love just as much as theirs.
I found it hard to watch, but I admire your courage and I hope to learn much from your experience with your beautiful son. Thanks for sharing your son with us.
hi when i get really upset and overwhelmed i bang my head and flip out really bad i dont remember when it happenes or after i had to be restrained when i was at the hospital.for it and the last time a couple of months ago i broke my nose and had bruising in my head really bad i still dont remember about them.my kids dad was here he helped and niehbers helped but now they wont talk to me or socialize with me they are mad at me they dont understand that its not my fault its my disorder very sad.
i dont really understand Autism too well could you please explain to me what he is having... seems like a seizure.. is it?? sorry to ask but im sooo curious... i watched a couple of your other video's and your an amazing lady. Im sure your rest is limited.. i will keep you and your family in my prayers.. god bless.
OnlyStupidUsernames:Life is much more importive than you think ! How you could think that someone doesnt deserve it? This person has a supportive and caring family and there is a reason that he is alive ! You should respect life more !
He's alive because he touches lives. He inspires people to be better than they are. He pushes us to the limit. He makes us examine ourselves to see how much courage, faith and love, tolerance, and patience we have. Why should any of us be alive?
@OnlyStupidUsernames What a stupid and evil thing to say. James is a beautiful boy and has a much right to be here on this earth as you or anyone else!!
No, he is NOT possessed...though I have to admit, I grew up Catholic and when my son first started this behavior at age 2, the thought crossed my mind. What you are witnessing isn't the only side of my son. See video" sweet sides of autism" he does this behavior because he doesn't understand his hands are weapons...he is frustrated. He can't process world around him or his emotions because of the severity of his autism...other autistic people are not as severe but often have insight into this
Oh boy, we've been there done that a million times and he won't do it...however, we still try...you just never know when it will click..there is a case of an autistic man who began saying words at age 30!!
We did use arm splints. Three pairs. He would curl his arm until his hands turned blue...he broke the wooden splints in half. He popped the blow up ones by biting them. Finally, he would bend his body into his arms and hit his head on the spint! It's like he's superhuman...so strong it's unreal...he doesn't hold back his strength..because he doesn't know he should..which makes him very strong..thanks for suggestion though...I'm open to others...
Sorry i watched again and it looked more like a seizure. I'm still feeling some sort of pressure machine may comfort him. something that holds him in and his arm down as well. Not just for restraint but for those pressure points?
He does like pressure. For example, when he sits with me on couch, he likes me to hold him tight...problem comes when he suddenly starts smashing his fists into head and I'm stuck under him (he likes to sit in my lap like a baby....) my gosh it's never easy....but we're not giving up...we must find better treatment, this wrestling with him is utterly exhausting for him and us...
he appears to be moving his eyes in a REM pattern only he's awake, could he be sleep wallking when he does this? I don' t know how that would help stop the head hitting . Like a weighted vest with pressure point while he sleeps, Can you press him somewhere on his head or neck or back or arms and calm him when he is in this mode? Maybe the deep pressure during the different phases of sleep with a vest??
Good idea. Autumn Blog also suggested something similiar that helped a severely autistic boy. Probably explains why he curls up in fetal position and holds blanket to his face and hides under pillows. I am looking for something like a vest with pressure for his size. Most are for kids. He's 20, and tall. He wears his life vest a lot and seems to like the moderate pressure.
I have a daughter with classic autism; she is six and nonverbal, but has never self-injured, thank GOD, I pray she never starts. She also finally toilet-trained this year; we do some of the diet and supplementation stuff as well as ABA and life skills training. The people who yap about what a
"gift" autism is are usually adults with Asperger's syndrome who live on their own. I am with you in that you will never hear me call what my daughter has a "gift". I love her very much, though.
They are very against restraining in my Scotland. I have tried to, April puts her arms in clothing, I say to try to stop herself.. oh..I can't rest for thinking...she is 9...I can't imagine this for another 10 years..I feel so sick and grief stricken..
I'm sorry this makes you grief stricken, that is not my intention....I guess I've learned to block things out from having to deal with it so many times. Please don't think you will have to go through this. If anything, I am posting these videos so others DON'T have to go through the battles we've been through trying to get help.
Actually this side of autism is often shown in text/pop science-book anecdotes. There are also many videos and pictures like this online. Your video is educational instead of "poor me" schlock, but some parents' are not.
Try checking out silentmiaow's channel for more information on this.
He is truly adorable & I have a 9yr old autistic son he is High functioning autism. I know it must be very hard but god only gives you what you can handle. You are truly blessed.
My son is 20 now, he's been self injurious since age 2, despite countless interventions and pharmaceuticals. Truly, the best thing is to just surround him with continuous support network and make his life as happy and comfortable as possible. I use a lot of pro active interventions like music, massage and exercise therapy, but if he has a cold or something that triggers discomfort, we are looking at days of punching fits and increased seizure activity.......
This is an absolutely horrific ordeal. This is absolutely heartbreaking. I can't imagine seeing my child go through this. This is why we must do whatever it takes to save our kids from environmental toxins.. We need more conclusive studies into causation and remediation of autism.

how can someone cope with having a child like that
smsorour 2 years ago
Sometimes I think I can;t cope,,takes years of fighting and begging for help from the agencies.
It's just you feel so hurt for your child. Then you have to be stronger every time you nearly break as being stong is the only choice you have.
