On my comment I just posted , I wrote, ' Now either put a flat piece of plexiglass...'. I meant to say to just put plexiglass on the speaker cone, but you could also utilize mechanical leverage by fastening a fulcrum point coming off the edge of the speaker so that the 1st tape head could be adjusted to vibrate ( oscillate more, or even less) based on speaker vibrations. So yes this might sound like a nutty idea, but consider recording onto a tapeloop w/ more heads playing back. Idea 12 yrs old.
Try this and give me credit for putting it out there. Take old CD player-to-cassette adapter & unhook the tape head and wire w/ 1/8" plug, discard housing, keep rest . Get a speaker ( a low watt, but 3"-6" speaker). Now either put a flat surface of thin plexiglass on the speaker cone & mount your CD adapter tape head at right angle on this plexiglass surface. Fasten a 2nd playback head to stable surface, but directly facing 1st head. Take L ch. from each head to spkr amp mixer IN & R to OUT.
No I missed that one, sounds good tho, I just finished my first ever circuit bend this morning (Kawasaki Big Bam Boom!) all hand soldered inside so real easy to mod. I used an old DJ mixer slider to crossfade 2 bends (speed and glitch) and somehow got the two volume knobs to act as a square-wave oss. and filter/pitch (please dont ask me how, I just kept messin til my housemate threatened to throw her dinner at me- result!) keep up the good work :-)
We have been building the MK-II version of this unit today and will be adding a video later tonight. That is a good way of getting food that you have there. Perhaps I could come round and try too!
I look forward to hearing it, I found the vid of the last one and it sounds excellent, properly retro dub sounds. My next mod is a line in/out and secondary oscillator driven by the sample chip, if you fancy dinner you could araldite a plate to a catchers mitt and take the infield! Lee : )
The new "DIRT-BOX MK-II" video is just loading now and should be ready when you get this message. Have fun with the new project! I'm just waiting for the araldite to set...
I love it! esp. with the 909, reminds me of bangin overloaded sound systems way back when, I just wish I'd paid more attention when my tech friend tried to explain electronics to me! good old google eh? now I have all knowledge (and little understanding) p.s. your dinners gone cold
sounds intriguing, that many bends in a chassis so small must be an interesting challenge , I wish I could afford to commission you to mod my MT-400v (I love it to much to risk losing it to my random fumblings!) so much potential though (warranty void/tablehooters) that it seems made for modding
We have fitted a 12 way rotary swith inside the actual machine and fitted the rest into a break out box, should be ready to see later today. You could always try bidding on one of machines on ebay, we have lots of stuff here to work on and are looking to get a 400v, as we have not tried one yet.

There is a special edition video coming later, we have just finished our first commission, a 24 mod Casio SK-1 with a break out box. Heavy stuff!

Possessed by the spirit of Jimi ;-) 'nice' distortion- reminds me of a teenage friends home-made pedal 'the bastard box' back in the 80's punk days!

Thanks for that, have you seen the "digital dub delay" that we made? That one has got a distortion mode that is very heavy! Arron
