I want to live as long as possible, and stay biologically young aswell.
and about the population thing that ive picked up reading through these posts, if you'd look up the reason our population is growing so fast is cause of poverty, not because life expectancy is going up. these nations with the highest birth rates often have the lowest life expectancies while the highest life expectancies tend to have lowest birth rates.
overpopulation is not a valid reason why we shouldn't end aging.
I like the way he thinks & speaks, but I think realistically if everybody could live forever it would be complete chaos. The world is already bad enough w/ 6 billion people drying up the Earths resources. He wants to save 100,000 lives A DAY? Not enough humans being discarded out to make room for the new ones. Population would be out of control and disease & violence would be rampant. I think he is afraid of death & wishes he could live forever, plus he makes a few bucks telling a good story.
These are some of the ridiculous things we use to try to convince ourselves aging is a good thing.
Look at the explosive growth of population in the early US. This growth has tapered off as it will in other countries as they develop.
Furthermore, other fields in science will continue to progress just like 'gero' science. These technologies, as they generally address global issues, will help expand the Earth's ability to harbor what will eventually be a slowly growing population.
In the worst case scenario, if we will not age, would be, not allowing everybody to become immortal. SImple as that. It's not like every body diservs it, only worthy blah blah blah.
Or just 3rd WW. It will solve all the problems, meaby even the greatest one, humanity itself!
okay, its all very well saving the mind from becoming old - but what about your body? surly if everyone lives 100+ years - anyone with a working body is going to have to dedicate their life to helping the old... i personally believe nature sorts us out - and the way we're going already is overpopulation etc - so this will just make things worst.
everyones going to die... just accept it and spend life enjoying things - not worrying about the end, or you'll just miss life!
He is inventing complete biological immortality. Actually, its close to completion.
Overpopulation is a complete illusion on a global scale.
We could all have a palace the size of Buckingham palace, but a certain person does not want us to, because her palace in relevance will not look so grand.
These is no such thing as over population on this earth! We live on land and we haven't even covered half of that. So if you apply the idea of floating cities on the sea which is a great possibility, then it would take hundreds or thousands of years to become cramped. Don't believe me read this "Go to Google and type in how much of land is populated, then click the first website that comes up - it says lets do the math..." This is very informative and shows the maths that backs my comment.
Overpopulation is not a valid reason not to defeat aging. A world where aging exists is the worse case scenario. Right now population is limited by a horrific method: involuntary death. The worst alternative, forced birth control, is less horrific that the current method of population control(crippling to death).
there are minerals that slow down the aging process, these minerals are found in vitamins and in foods such as nuts and vegetables so simply change the human diet or create a superpill and the aging process will slow extending liftimes...
Hey, does anyone my interview with Aubrey de Grey. It's about 8 questions + answers. I did it about 2 weeks ago to my upcoming webpage, but it seems that it might be a fairly long time before i get my webpage running. So if you are intrested of reading it or uploading it to your webpage, contact me.
True, De Grey has prophesied that those under 30 at the moment will certainly live to see infinite life. Those that can last the next 30 years should see life extension technology that enables them to receive this same death-cure.

Under 30? More like those not even born. Biotech is still in its "Da Vinci" stage, meaning we are at least 100 years away from any significant alteration to the human lifespan.
How about rather than simply replying to me and leaving me a negative feedback you actually take a look at the available information. Even the Wikipedia article on the subject backs me up. De Grey even states exactly what I just said in the TEDTalks available here on YouTube. So please don't come totally unprepared to a debate and, worse yet, leave negative feedbacks on impulse. It just annoys me and makes you look foolish.
I've looked at the information, read several books, visited blogs and forums, studied trends and caught up on the latest news in technological progress. Biology is an immensely complex phenomenon that simply cannot be easily tweaked and manipulated with current and near-future scientific tools. The more biologists reveal, the more intricacy and complexity is found.

Even Aubrey himself gives those under the age of 30 only a 20-50% chance of making it to AEV in time before they succumb to old age, and that's an overly optimistic estimate.
The Immortality Institute's consensus is largely the same. We won't make it, but at least there's cryonics.
This seems to be a logical extention of the work of Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw in the 80s, though I will have to read his book to see the depth of his research. Of course, we have a lot of political and social/religious obstacles to overcome before this can be pursued in earnest without government interference.
Dr de Grey is brilliant. The baby boomers are saying that 60 is the new 40 ... I look forward to the day when we can all say that 300 is the new 200 ....
powerful presentation!

there are other methods of keeping a good population besides letting people die off. Im getting sick of telling people this...

Impertinence. This now is the armageddon scenario. Aging is the moral equivilant of an approaching meteor.
Right now we limit population by people dying at 75. This is _less_ humane than the alternative: Limiting population by limiting birth.
northanortha 2 years ago
there are 380,000 babies born everyday.
if we add the cure to aging the population would rise around 30% faster. thats if every1 took it
future technologies will allow us to accomadate more humans. advances in agriculture cities, skyrises and eventually accologies.
besides the birth rates are going down and scientists expect the population will stop climbing at around 9-10 billion by 2100 or 2150

I stand corrected by myself.
He has almost ready to start regressing our ages some 30 years at the age 60. In those 30 years he may be able to reduce it again by more and so on.
