I saw Black bear on the roadside once while on a roadtrip so I'm sure at least those type of bears are real. I haven't laid eyes upon grizzly bears but then again I'll just have to hold the media to their word on that one as I don't think i'd be inclined to find one.

Oh you have to check it out the Title of the Movie is Grizzley Man and it is all actual footage that he shot and was later compiled into a movie about his life it's pretty intense and a good see just to see how he started to loose it a little bit.
