This is why the italian firearm laws are very very restrictive unlike the American firearm laws. Thank God there is the possibility to use them for sport & hunting easily enough here.

You can put a shotgun in the hands of inexperienced shooter and they can do fine. You should actually go about and warn them about the recoil, given you should warn them about the recoil of any fire arm. My 11 yr old nephew shot a 10 gauge double barrel (no stock on this one) for his first time. Seeing as he actually knew about recoil, he made sure he had a tight grip, he did fine with it. Just make sure YOU let the person know it will kick, to hold onto it tightly.
