Listening to this you can really heae the influence Florence Foster Jenkins had on her voice. In fact Cilla was to pop what Florence was to opera. For those of you that like this performance you must hear Florence Foster Jenkins singing The Queen Of The Night, you'll love it..

All I Can Say Is AWESOME PERFORMANCE! This Has To Be The Finest Live Voice I Have Heard On Cilla Black, So Much Power & Emotion, This Is How Real Music Should Sound, Pitch Perfect Vocals And A Flawless Orchestra, A True GODLEN CLASSIC!
I must stop watching this. But, ooooh. They say she was like the girl next door. Well, the girl next door to me was nothing like she was or still is. This was her perfect song. Nobody ever touched it. Dusty did a good version but there wasnt the same emotion. Cilla became a lot more polished after this. Her contact with the Beatles made a difference but for me, this was the perfect Cilla, young and sublime.
cilla sings this song from the heart[no pun intended]she owns this song,a million seller and cilla belts it out with such power, then you get the soft cilla voice too, fantastic, love you to bits cilla.
I watch and listen to this .... and tears well up in my eyes, running down my cheeks; I''m a 61 year old guy... transported back to his second year in high school... such a happy time. The emotions triggered from that era come back so strongly to the presesnt moment. It's not merely nostalgia. I mean her voice and her ability to carry emotion through the song with such effect is unique and powerful.
Love you so much Cilla!!! Still going strong after all this time!! Thankyou so much for posting this! Loving that her accent is still prominent in this performance!!
Of all the versions of this song, this one really gets at the BITTERNESS of the lyrics--Cilla really lets it fly. I love her cold "What am I to do?" that changes into a shrill fortissimo "Anyone who had a heart would love me too!" Nothing in this version is as sweet as Dionne Warwick, but the song is not sweet. Great post.
Cilla Black had such a powerful voice! Growing up in the 60s I never understood why she was never a big name in the U.S. like Dusty Springfield or Petula Clark. She definitely was a better singer than either one of them.
Cilla sings this from the heart and soul, a song to bring you to tears if you've ever felt the way she sings x

I'm so torn between Cilla's amazing powerful version and Dionne's heartfelt version. I love them both so much!
