  • I discussed the issues raised below in the CrossOver Movement forum, which unfortunately no longer exists. To be brief in response, my daughter dips the ball with her outside shots, and to my eye in no way appears to be "throwing" the ball. This has a lot to do with the timing of the knee bend with the shot motion of the arms. Also, for the shot technique shown in the video, dipping to the waist does NOT give more power. And in my opinion gives MORE and not less control.

  • I just read Crossover post and came across the dipping chat.I teach kids not to dip to the waist but to start from the chest(what you call a medium dip.My problem with dipping to the waist is not that it slows down the shot giving the defense more time to block the shot. The big problem I have with dipping to the waist is that it leads players to throw the ball.Dipping to the waist gives more power but less control.More movement = less control. Both work but medium dip leads to quicker imprvment.

  • by dipping you let the defender have a better chance of blocking your shot. her rhythm is not as good because she isn't used to shooting with out the dip. I think it all depends on how the defence is playing you. if they are close, no dip. if they are far off go ahead and dip if it makes you a better shooter.
