That fire was NOT normal. I emailed NASA after viewing with a promise of an answer in 2 - 3 days. Not only did they not answer my 2 emails regarding the flames, they immediately removed the video and all pertinent photos from their site. They're covering up something!
This has happened before and is normal. I strongly encourage you to do some research into how the APU works before you go off like a lunatic and accuse NASA of a conspiracy.
it was a pretty alarming sight, but they do routinely vent hydrazine from the APUs on landing. That's why the crew never disembarks right away. Besides, they had dozens of fire trucks present. If it had been an unplanned event, they would have been all over it.
This wasn't an APU fire!!! It was just the venting of the hydrazine used to power the APUs. The venting is just a lot more visible during night landings. It was asked at the post-flight press conference and it was explained as totally normal and expected. You'll notice the PAO also says it's normal
Exactly the same fire is visible at landing of STS-130 (Endeavour) on 21st February 2010 10:22 pm local time at KSC.

APU exaust only. Can always see it on night landings. Its not visible during day landings.

@mach25man: You can hear it during the day landings, though. It chuffs in synchrony with the visible flames.

You are both incorrect and confused.

The speed of this vehicle is enormous, unbelievable. It's a tremendous, infernal, extremely powerful machine.
