hi im 20. just learning how to play and your very helpful! can u please do a longer version of what you played on this video and please explain how to play it? that was my favorite slap funk bass line. I WOULD LOVE TO LEARN IT! THANKS GEORGE
First, just copy (part of) what the guitarist is playing. That is usually a good start. Listen to bass parts in your chosen genre and see how the bass relates to the other instruments and vocals. Then use similar ideas and concepts.
Thrash can be hard because of speed and stamina - so get to work :)
@fordcomets hey man.. I've been playing bass for about 10 years, let me tell you... if you've never played before you shouldnt be starting with thrash metal. You should learn all your notes and learn your instrument. Thrash requires speed and precision. By the way.... thrash is not one of the hardest types of music to play... if you want hard music to learn on bass, I would suggest at taking a gander at Geddy Lee, Chris Squires, Flea, or Victor Wooten

@weldon29 I bought the SBS (Slap Bass Series) and it's awesome for someone who knows nothing about slap bass or even the bass guitar. I have been playing metal bass for a few years and know that genre fairly well but I was completely intimidated by slapping. So given my few years of bass experience, the SBS started a bit too slowly. But then came along episode six and I hit my own personal slap bass wall! The lessons are perfectly sized and memorable enough that you can just doodle away anytime.
Interestingly, my recording resources have not changed. I guess I am just paying more attention to the clarity of the recording (as opposed to my previous You Tube videos).
I go into an ADA MB-1 preamp, that goes to an old Tascam Portastudio (used as a mixer/analogue interface) to iMovie 11 on my MacBook.
Also, I now have Sony Studio Monitor headphones which really help to hear accurately.
Viejo loco... eso fue fantastico!!!

It is quite repetitive, so I suggest you play each section as many times as necessary to learn by sight and sound.
Essentially the line is comprised of octaves, the 6th and flat 7th. The notes are E, C# and D.
Bass of Luck and thanks for your interest and appreciation.
George
P.S. You can learn how to create this type of line yourself with my 12-part Slap Bass Video Series.

I'm 14 and want to learn base
My friends have a band and a bass I can borrow but I have never played in my life do you have any pointers for me?
They play Thrash metal (if that helps)
Am I right in thinking Thrash is one of the hardest types of music to play?
P.S I've found your videos very helpful and have been practicing whenever I can on whatever I can (mainly my knee)

The only thing missing is the Marlowe's chicken-head technique. You should work on that more.

I'm thinking of buying your lessons, but can you maybe show an example of you playing at the level of a beginner who went through your lessons?
