In layman's terms, is there any way to get this to work with a vcr or dvr? I'm old and can't figure this out. My old VCR worked great for 20 years- now that i have to have this DTA box, I cant' get it to work. I don't mind buying a dvr if i know for sure it will work. Thanks to anyone who can help me in advance!!!
@peeweecee To get this to work with a VCR is by plugging in the cable that comes from the wall/foor to the input side of the DTA box. Then from there you connect the coaxial output from the DTA to the VCR's cable input. Then connect the VCR out to TV to your TV. Then put your TV on channel 3 and make sure your VCR is set to output to channel 3 usually small switch in the back. Then set your VCR channel to 3.
Now you can record your TV shows with the VCR and VCR does not need to be on.
@peeweecee Then from here you do not need the VCR to be on unless your planning on to record anything. The signal will just pass though the VCR when its off on most models.
Then use the DTA box to change your channels with while keeping the VCR and TV set to channel 3. Now you can enjoy the best possible signal.
I highly recommend you do buy a new TV instead if you are still using a CRT based TV. You can still use your VCR on the new LCD/Plasma tv's.
Clear "QAM" has a lot of the same channels that a DTA provides -but not all. (Depending on programming in your area) - I really dislike the whole DTA concept myself - Comcast shoudl have given a guide, used the same remote controls (you have to use a special one that came with the DTA), they are not only NOT HD, but the only output is a modulated channel 3/4 output like an old VCR. So, in an effort to make more money, Comcast took us all back about 10 steps!
The little "DTA" that Comcast provides is actually a QAM tuner that can also decrypt. They set them up, though, so they only will decode channels up to about channel 110 - no premium channels, no channel guide etc.
Yeah.... i just upgraded to theese box things last month and now on some channels it has no sound and on other channels it speaks in spanish, even though the credits of the show, and commercials will be in english. The show itself speaks in spanish... so im only getting a few channels that i can actually understand and watch.

That looks like a QAM TV tuner. How is it possible for a simple TV tuner like that to bypass the digital encryption that digital cable utilizes?

@Regisigh You hit the "SAP" button. On my DTA its next to the MUTE button. Just press that and you will get normal audio again.
