hhhmm I'm sorry I can't help too much, this guy went all the way down on his knee the first time I tried but thats only because he wanted the carrot so bad. If you think it is hurting her I definately wouldn't try it but if not the only thing I can suggest is just encouraging her to lean back with a carrot and giving the carrot to her every time she leans back furthur than usual. Hope that helps but if you are pacient, you can get a horse to do anything!
Thanks so much, I hope it works with your horse but if your pacient you can get a horse to do just about anything so long as you ask for a little bit at a time.
I started by holding his leg saying 'bow' and I would put the carrot between his legs and he would lean back and follow the carrot down, when he gets down I feed him a couple more pieces of carrot. After I did that for about 10 times I would just show him the carrot (between his legs) and then take it away so that he would go down without having to follow a carrot down. When he got the hang of that I can now just pick up his leg and say 'bow' and he will go down and wait for his treat.
hope u dont mind the suggestion. when he is bowing like that just hook a lead rope to the left side of his halter and gently pull his head and he should lay down. that is if he and u have a good bond which u look like u do. good luck. let me know how it works. ur horse is pretty
Thank you so much for the suggestiong, I definately will try it when he gets a bit better at bowing, I'm thinking of having him to the stage were I tape his leg with the whip and he picks it up and then he bows when I say 'bow' and then I really want to start working on laying down so I definately will see how it goes. Atm I can hold his leg and say bow and he will do it and he has done it once just with taping his leg! Thanks again for the suggestion :)
Such a lovely mare you have and now you got this beautifull boy as well so jelouse. Looks like hes picking it up very well. Cant wait to see the update. Not sure about the laying down ive seen it done in a few different ways but never tried doing it myself so sorry. Im sure youll find a way though.
Thank you for the comment, I share this horse with my sister, we bought him because he was feral and would constantly bite and try to buck people off but now he is a very good boy :D I think the only reason that he picked the bowing up so quick is because he would do anything for a treat so once he learns that he can get treats from laying down then it should be fairly easy to get him to do it on command.
Was he realy that bad he doesnt look it. Seems like you guys did great with him. Well i get the treat thing i think i would be the same if i was him as well cant beat a good nice snack can you.
Lol yeah I love my snacks :P He was pretty bad when we first got him, he would buck and bolt all the time and he couldn't even turn in a 20m circle so he would always run off the arena. He is heaps better now but when he gets frustrated or really angry he goes back to biting and whenever you hit him it just makes him even angrier so he tries to bit you harder and then when he finds out that that only gets him a smack he storms off and sulks in the paddock
Poor little thing. Well perhaps one day the biting will be gone all together right. Do you keep your horses at home or you do agist because that looks to me like a realy nice arena.
thankyou, it's our home :P it is a pretty nice arena but the only problem is that the guys who built it did it on a very slight slant so when it reigns all the sand washes to one end so one end is really deep and the other really shallow and it's only a 3/4 size arena so it is hard to practice dressage tests because the long sides are so short and when you are jumping, if you do a combination or grid then you have to turn really soon after the jumps.
Its a shame it must be a little annoying at times. Still it looks pretty big and atleast you have your own place big enough for the horses and an arena as well youre so lucky. Also it does look like a very nice one and the serroundings look lovely as well im so jelouse were looking for a place with land for over a year now without luck.
Ah thank you, we have owned the place for 4 years now and it is really nice to be able to go down to the horses whenever you want instead of having to drive for 30 minutes (we used to live really far away from the horses) and it saves so much time as well because you just walk down, ride, wash down, feed and just wask back up to the house.
Does sound great. As i said weve been looking for a little over a year now i think. Just cant find anything in our budget and whenever we do its to far away. It seems easier on the mainland then down here. Whenever i do a search i get thousands of them but then when i click on things just for down here it turns to like twenty i am not kidding it sucks.
i had a red mustang, ronny, who refused to reduce himself to bowing and i followed the training to the letter- bless his little wild heart.

that looks really great! To lay down, once they get really good at the bow(he is getting there, you just sort of push them over a bit.
I am teaching my horse right now too and she actually layed down by accident because she wanted the treat so badly!
