It can lift to 2500 meters, approximately. It's not really meant for straight flying. the engine is there to enable it to take off on its own, and then retract it back into the fuselage and glide.

A guy has been working on that for some years. Look up "Solar Electric Powered Flight" on youtube. Not much power from solar cells yet..hopefully in the future this will be reality

present solar panels are not efficient enough to power the motor in flight and add additional wieght. However, there are several designs that have panels for supplimental power or to charge batteries while gliding or on the ground. Who knows what the future holds when better solar panels are produced in the near future...?

good point, never thought of that. It would be interesting to see how much energy that would generate, although to generate the static you need to be moving though the air at a high speed creating the old "chicken and the egg" situation.

Dear PlaneAU,

Taurus Electro is the first TWO-SEAT electric aircraft in the world. There are other two-seat motorgliders, and there are other one-seat electric aeroplanes, but the Taurus is the first electric two seater.

It is a glider with an auxiliary electric engine, which means the engine gives it the independence to take off on its own. Once it is high enough, it can switch off the engine and retract the propeller back into the fuselage, and then glide.
