It's a normal 3-knob pickguard, I just left the hole close to the strings blank and wired it with a single global tone control. Then I put a patch of aluminum foil over the whole on the back of the pick guard so it's still kinda shiny :) thanks for checkin out the vid!
I am looking into building a few amps... trying to avoid the kit buying route and just follow some plans.. It's nice to hear someone actually make one and have it sound good... That hum can be worked out.. It's most likely in the wires as I think you might have said.. If everything's cramped inside it could be a space issue? But none the less I think it sounded awesome. Congrats on your build.
Hi, thanks for checking out the vid! What I did for a schematic was look at the schematics I found online for Sovtek MIG50, Traynor YBA-1, and Marshall Plexi, which are all pretty much the same circuit, just with slightly different resistor and capacitor values. I then picked resistor and capacitor values in the same range as those amps kind of at random. I did not buy a kit, I got most of the parts from Antique Electronics Supply. It cost me about $300 or so total, just a guess.
Sounds killer!!! And you played Thin Lizzy:)
