@puch7261 the r6s has a similar body work from 2000-2005 and from 2006 to present the r6(non "s") has sharper less rounded lines with many technological advances. Starting with suspension the r6s has "straight" front suspension vs the 06-present having "upside" front forks. look at some pics and you will see if you look closely. have a more experienced friend point them out or stop by your local bike shop and a knowledgeable salesman can point them out too. hope this helps. sorry so late.

First thing; no bike is too big, it depends how YOU ride it. Any bike can be dangerous. Ride to your skill level. Second, buddy lose the rear light/license plate holder. Get a kit and incorporate it into the rear light; much nicer look. Also cheap and easy, paint the windshield black from the inside. Will always be shiny and will spice the bike up.

you really want to take your time before you think about jumping on a 600 race bike at 17 or 18 years old. Try riding a sports 250cc first, if you can handle that then go for it.

you don't want to blind anyone with your highs but in general you keep the highs on in the day and the single low beam at night. the only exception is if you really feel that your safety is in question, then keep the high on to ensure that your visibility is maximized. everyone will have contradictory info but these are the basics.

My brother had an R6, same color, same year. Nice ass bike dude! He wrecked it yesterday though, totaled the bike, lost a kidney, shattered his spleen, and broke his arm.

Just make sure you ride carefully. R6's are sick bikes.

that's tough. you might have to do some mods to make it work. i personally wouldn't feel safe riding a bike unless i could get my feet or at least a foot on the ground. At 5'8 I have a pretty hard time getting both feet down flat. check out a shop and see what it feels like first.

the short pipe on the side is actually "newer" in terms of race design.  the undertail pipe has more weight than the short pipes. i was like you and at first didn't like the short pipes which you will find on the world class motogp $3million dollar superbikes. however, as I came to understand the engineering reasons for it and heard them, they sure grew on me. so you might still see undertail but the motogp shortpipe has its advantages. l8r! J

There are fender eliminator kits for this and all the other bikes. The Dept. of Transportation requires the manufacturer to meet specified criteria. In effect, Yamaha and others make easy to remove license plate setups. The sleeker more race oriented setups are technically illegal but its up to you to pay for the fix it tickets so your bike looks more tricked out!

The R6 has better handling and cornering because it is smaller and lighter. The R1 is a 1000 cc engine vs the R6 being only 600 cc so it is heavier but more powerful. It is only slightly less nimble but blends power and handling very well. The R6 may out maneuver the R1 in the corners but the R1 should get away on the straight aways. It depends on what you want. Most people can barely handle the R6; experience and even more balls to properly ride an R1 should be required.

that's really up to you. i started on a ninja 500 and now ride Yamaha's 600. the smaller you start the more confident you will be. i recommend buying a cheap (but completely working) used first bike (and have ALL the gear on). from there take on ANY bike you feel ready for. the r6 is light and great and awesome in so many ways but you have to be more careful than you would on a smaller displacement bike. whatever you decide, have fun and be safe!

i had one of those, you wouldnt believe the difference of power between a 400 andtat tho, think about it a moped is like what 5 bhp derestricted, R6 is like 110bhp, i would if i wereyu getometng lie a spors 400, or sv650 or something like that to just get you used to the gearing and stuff, and besids the insurnce will be sky high for one of these babys.

I have the R6 -- the slipper clutch allows me to dust the R1 in the corners... the R1 can pull away on the straight aways.... and it is really the rider that makes the bike... oh if you get the R6 get a power commander and new sprockets -- it will destroy any Stock R1
