  • filmed with a potato

    from germany

  • The freq. response doesn't sound too good. Sounds like someone needs and EQ!!!!

  • @Mrdogdigger I picked that song because it has a variety of low db. Sometimes it does hit.. this vid is the show its capabilities. Thanks for watching

  • @DJCD01 But I recommend you do get an EQ. It can make the whole PA system sound so much better if the sound is EQ'ed and get all bass notes and frequencies even. With an EQ, almost all frequencies will be even so you wont get notes that are quieter than the rest or louder than the rest. I have 2x 18" EV subwoofers and having an EQ makes everything a hole lot better! Nice vid though!

  • @Mrdogdigger ... Its a mix cd which jumps around on low bass hits is why I chose it. Its not the subs fault.. just the way the song is mixed or else it would hit evenly. I chose it because it shows the range of the subwoofer. I have another vid with "Party in the USA" .. check that vid out and see how it sounds.

  • @Mrdogdigger Also Camera is distorting the sound too.. sounds alot cleaner. You have to think the camera mic on the camera is smaller than a penny. So the lowest db is going to distort on the camera. Thats what I said at the beginning of the video.

  • @DJCD01 I know from experience that camera mics are crap. With my future vids, I will use a rode NT-2 recording mic.

  • @DJCD01 I know how you feel (check out my sub vid)

  • jbl <3

  • i am using this sub in a home cinema setup hehe

  • @potrebnifukec Awesome. I have JBL studio speakers and sub for my surround. Can't imagine that. I know your chair shakes when there is serious bass.

  • @DJCD01 oh yeah. right now i actually have 2 of these :D. my dad needs them when they have an event. but must of the time they are in the living room. 2 subs left and right and satellites mounted on them(not shure what brand but they have a horn and 15"). and yes everthing shakes when there is bass. if you put a not pluged in speaker near it the cone of the spaker actually starts to move and plays it makes a passive membrane :D

  • @DJCD01 DUDE i want to get the SRX725 and SRX728s speakers for my room :D

  • i lOVE THIS SUB!! best we have own!

  • @Tiger1240 Glad you like.. I love it too.. It rocked a Military Ball I just did with using my 500 sub and g2 sub combo. I can't imagine having two of each setup along with the JBL powered tops.

  • sounds good man, i've got the jbl eon's 1 series and a american audio 18'' 800watts RMS sub with it and i must say i am a huge fan !!! amazing sound quality ! do you know american audio ? and is this compatible with this sub you got here ? greetz

  • @nmgncross as long as it supports xlr out or you can covert it to xlr, all you do is plug it up and hook in the xlrs, ready to go.

  • I am thinking of adding a powered sub or two this year. I currently use passive speakers, and have a pair of EV eliminator i 18" subs. They are pretty gawdy to carry (even on the cart) and I only put about 225w a channel to each of them. Would I still be better off with the powered sub over what I have now?

  • @mainedj Its best to run powered to powered. It should still work fine though. Mixer to sub.. sub to amp.. amp to speakers. Just that the sub has a built in amp and crossover. Never tried running passive speakers with a powered unit.

The advantages of having powered units. It eliminates the need of bringing an amp case. Also the sub is lighter in most cases with the powered sub. This one weighs in at 65 lbs.

  • I come across one of those EON subs used on craigslist for $500. I wish I would have got it!

  • my brother is a dj. he has this times 2. and 2 rcf 500 and 2 rcf 300

  • Where did you take the music done this DJMIX of out of?

  • @TheMEIN100 Its a mix from X-mix Urban Series. Its one of the subscriptions I get. Love the mix. Has Daft Punk mixed with it also.

  • see i was wondering i bought a powered sub and it comes wit the built in cross over is there any way i can run a regular amp to the powered sub for two speakers

  • @Arenwences001

Don't think you suppose to intermix powered system with a amp/passive speaker system. It may fry something. I wouldn't try it. There are amps that are built within the powered speakers, so you may mess up something internally.

  • @DJCD01 so i would would i have to buy a sepparate cross over ?

  • @Arenwences001

Ask your local sound store or call JBL. Usually they want to keep your passive speakers with passive/amp .... and powered with powered (amp built in)

  • @DJCD01 alrighty thanks for the help :)

  • LMFAO @ comments below me

  • LOL @ comments below me!!

  • I WENT TO A PARTY AND I ONLY SAW BIG JBL SPEAKERS U CAN HERE THE MUSIC LIKE 3 BLOCKS DOWN CLEAR VOICE & BASS WAS SOUNDING AS I GOT CLOSER TO THE HOUSE LOL

  • @YungGBone124127134 FORGET TO TURN CAPS LOCK OFF?

  • @djteknovibe

I can ask my true sound designer friend that lives across the street thats worked with recording artist like Godsmack and many other local recording artist that are getting there start in the biz. I'm sure he would come up with a different answer which speaker and/or sub he prefers. He also plays in a band himself. If I see him, I'll ask what he prefers. Again, I've always been a JBL EON guy. I have idiot people here that will take a mic and have it less than 2 inches of thespeaker

  • JBL Eon has great protection of those idiot, wasted drunks that I do Karaoke at the bars. Thats one big selling point to me. I'm sure the PRX series has that as well. I'm sure its a great speaker, its made by JBL. I'm not putting down the speaker, but clearly you are on the Eons. Again in the United States, Right now the industry STANDARD is JBL EON and QSC. Every Dj I run into. Just in my area, primarily run JBL Eons. Just like the industry standard is Pioneer CDJ 1000 MKII.

  • That's not just according to me, but DJ magazines and other DJs that reflect and have proven to me, that there's a large number of DJs stateside that use them.

  • Yes different built in amplifiers can play a role in making the 12" horn sub outperform the 18". The QSC was and still is the hottest thing out there at the mobile beat shows when it comes to mobile dj speakers. I would hope you know more than I do about the physics of a speaker being a sound engineer. I have been a Professional Mobile/Club DJ for 15 yrs. Every speaker spec sheet has the db range of the speaker. Giving its Frequency range. The higher of the lower freq number the better.

  • I said that QSC was the top brand out there now. Many DJs at Mobile beat agree.

The Speakers themselves and the Subs. The Reason I talk diameters. It powers the sound through the horn. The larger the diameter. the louder bass bump you will feel. Db - + stands for Decibels. The broader the range. The better the speaker and sub. So clearly you don't understand it fully. Lots of djs from the DJ industry consider the JBL eon one of the standards of speakers. High protection from shock and feedback

  • Please check Jonathan's vid. Aka DJ Tutor for vids where he upgraded his box speakers. Upgraded the sub's compression driver to a bigger diamater. I think you'll find that vid illuminating. Bigger bump came between the two from the same speaker. So the bass factor was increased and the DB ranged was also increased by changing the compression coil/driver out.

  • @djteknovibe

Within a price range less than a $1,000. Most Mobile DJs like to keep it around 400 to 800 range. Within that parameter. The QSC has a broader db range and higher watts. Wattage in some cases are an indicator of the compression driver. But in some cases its proven you can't always go by that. Thats why I always ask the tech guy when buying the speaker to see if they can give me any additional information. Specifically the compression driver diameter.

  • What I'm talking about you can't always trust the wattage output as an indicator. Since the dawn of powered speakers. They were able to do smaller diameters with handling the same amout of watts. I glad you found a speaker you like. Most djs are not truely happy about their choice. My partner runs the Beringer line. He can't be happier about those. Me, my first Mobile Speaker was the JBL G1 Eon. Stuck with the Eon series ever since. I like the Protection it gives built into the speaker.

  • @djteknovibe

If you go back and look... I didn't say anything about sound. Only Watts. I don't appreciate the foul language. The G1 series are just as loud as the G2 and they are only 250 watts comparing to 400 watts. The G2 has more low end than the newer G3.. new generation of JBL. I was only speaking of the newer line up of JBL comparing to the newer lineup of QSC. Without Subs. QSC wins hands down. With the Subs, you can barely tell a difference to you get closer to the speaker.

  • Also.. what matters is the size of the compression driver. The bigger the diameter the better.

  • @djteknovibe

Yeah, I don't know squat. I've been doing 10 ppl or less shows for 15 years. Actually the truth, I've been doing upwards of 250 ppl to 500 ppl on the dance floor. Have over 50,000 dollars in gear.. I quite counting after that. Tons of lights, 3 different systems including lighting. And I'm not a multi-op.

  • @djteknovibe

I know it very well. That's why I brought up QSC.. which has out performed almost all if not all powered speakers on the market this year. They were the hottest thing at Mobile Beat.

  • @djteknovibe

You can go ahead and hook up all your amplifiiers you want. For my Application,

Just plug and go. Run Less wires. Can have the Subs and main speaker setup in 30 minutes or less. Trying to keep it Mobile you know?

Less of a setup especially when you want to minimize the setup so that you can setup and upsale for bigger ligthting rigs and uplighting for clients. Their is only one other Powered subwoofer that could top this one. And its the QSC Powered Sub.

  • BTW, PRX615 are powered, but the 718 are only 700 watts... these JBLs are 1000 watts, These are 1000 watts. I don't know how much the speakers you like weight. According to the information on them that they are light weight. These only way 65 lbs. For the sie of this sub, thats pretty remarkable. Its a size of a mackie or yamaha. The QSC technology is kicking serious but. Hopefully JBL will play a little catch up. The JBL speakers have less of a low end on the mains compared to the QSC 12, 15.

  • @icanfuckyouup

Check my Youtube channel. Just have to click my name anywhere. I have over 200 vids of gig logs and various other gigs I do. Karaoke, Dj parties, and Audio/Visual parties with 10 ft or 15 ft screens.

  • You might see some Knight Rider vids recently. I am building a Kitt Replica. I already have a General Lee Replica. Just go to view all and you will be able to see the last vids I did for the July 3rd wedding reception party with a new setup look.

  • I was wondering if someone could help me.... i want to buy a Dj speaker setup....i was checking out the JBL eon series.... can i connected my mixer table(DJM 400) to any of these speakers??? the thing is i only have RCA out,,,, no XLR.... Please help!!!..... i want to buy something nice...so i dont ever have to buy anything again...lol...please advise---

    Bello

  • @bellini1992

You can always get a converter from rca to 1/4 or xlr. The Eon series does both. From my mixer:

I have (from mixer) rca stereo to xlr convert wire ...then to a XLR mount on the back of the console box for XLR inputs. Then you can easily just plug and go once you got that set up. Check back on my "odyssey case" vids. Should help you some.

    -DJ CD

  • @bellini1992 i recommend the b 52 matrix 1000 system. dont let the size fool you it is really loud and clean.

  • Jot to Love JBL Pro!

  • Great Sub, I have this subwoofer myself, it's everything you would expect from jbl and as the man said, its light and don't have to mess with amps, just plug n play from mixer... great when you are drunk having to pack up at 4am. my records weigh more than this sub... try hoochie mama by 2live crew... hurts the ears at 3 quarters power.

  • @annistonk

Thanks for you comments and thanks for watching. I hope you continue to enjoy

    the JBL SuBs.

    -DJ CD

  • I have JBL trs125 passive 400w...can i hook them up to the Eon Subs, will this work? i probably lose some power. i probably have to use a crossover and get a drive rack, for better performance

  • @davishous1

they should work. I would give JBL a call before I purchased the subs though. As long as you have a 1/4 or a XLR out from the speakers, the signal should work fine.

    -DJ CD

  • @DJCD01 NO. Never connect passive to active. you'll be sending power from your power amp through your speaker into the sub, causing major damage to it, since it's self powered. connect the sub to your mixer that's feeding the power amp.

  • @paulprudente

nice tid bit to know.. passive don't go along with powered. So keep the amp and passive speaker on one and powered on the other. I always used powered speakers ... so no complaints here.

    Thanks for commenting.

    - DJ CD

  • @davishous1 I would utilize the crossover within the sub. Take your main outputs into your mixer and go into the subwoofer crossover. Then come out of the sub and go into your amps for your speakers.

  • me likey.

  • @metallikupo

as long as you have a 1/4 out or xlr out you can do it.

    -DJ CD

  • X-Mix Urban Series 125...am I right? Lol...I wish I had the money for a pair of those

  • @iceman977th

It may be. Can't remember which number it is. But yes, it is the X-mix Series. I subscribe to their collection of cds. I wish they start producing more x-mix remixed music videos. Thanks for Watching!

    -DJ CD

  • @DJCD01 Haha yeah. I heard it on here before I ordered the X-Mix Urban series, then realized i heard it before, and found it. That would be nice, although the rink I DJ at probably wouldnt like them as parents tend to complain about the videos including women...

  • @iceman977th

I Djed at Skating Rinks years and years ago.. so I know where you coming from. We couldn't play Next-Too Close.. which was one of the best shuffle skates at that time. There's still alot of cool videos you can do... just stay away from the Lil John and 50 cent videos.. you'll be alright.

I had a crappy Gemini 1 & 2 single slot 19 inch rack mount cd and mixer combo that always skipped. As soon as I left.....

  • They got a new computer system and JBL speakers. What I've been asking for .. for years. They accused me of stealing cds... which I didn't. I had permission from the main boss to borrow the cds after I DJ as long as I bring the cds back before next skate session. It was the other DJs on staff that were doing it. I was the main DJ there. DJ 4 nights out of the 7 nights and I was a manager before I left. Been doing Mobile DJing ever Since.

    -DJ CD

  • @DJCD01 Well, sad part is the rink is mainly urbanized (although the location isn't lol), so not much I can do video-wise.

Yeah. They had an MTX board that's been there forever, left side was always cutting out, so I swapped it out with a Radioshack mixer i had...sounds so much better

  • Thanks for the comments guys,

Leave some anytime. I will reply!!

    -DJ CD

  • What's the price?? aka Blaze

  • @analher

On ebay, you can get one for $749 free shipping. When I got mine, they were $899 each.

    -DJ CD

  • He CD01 I like the video.. You're right about nding to hear these in person to appreciate the bass quality. I happened to get one of these in Sept 09 and your description is solid and accurate. Each sub is only 65lbs feels like 40 when you lift it and dual XLR or 1/4" Inputs are sick..Linking 2 315's is soo easy Adding casters is a great idea... I might add a couple now that you got me thinking about it.. Anyways good review keep it up.

  • @billp429

Thanks Bro- Yeah they are really great subs for being powered. Usually you loose quality... you don't in this case!

JBL makes a special bag for the subs now with caster wheels at the bottom. Unfortunately, the bag is like $250 bucks on ebay. I'll take my $6 dollars in caster wheels anyday.. remember to use a short screw when screwing them in place. You do not need anything over a 1/4 of an inch.

    -DJ CD

  • Hey DJCD,

I really like your equipment review and log videos. The caster recommendation was great.

Could you show us more about your setup at the gigs? Speaker and light placement, etc.

    Thanks

  • @wcleck4

    Hey,

Please check out my videos on my Youtube channel. I have little over 100 videos of gigs and setups from small to large. Please check that out. If you want to see something in particular, just let me know.

    - DJ CD

  • Hey DJCD,

Thanks for the Video. I had a question about the Eon 500 series. (Eon 515) I got a pair of those, and not the subs yet. They have two "1/4 inputs, and a third multi-connector (XLR, TRS) input. Apperently you should be able to hook a dynamic mic right in for a small venue. It has ausual graph showing the Mic/Line level input, but where's the Mic/Line switch though? I don't understand that part!

  • Hey,

I don't know exactly how the direct mic input works.. but there should be an another knob for the volume of the mic. If not it will be the main volume with the speaker and use the eq on it to balance the mic. I always plug my mic through the mixer board. I run two mics through it that way with the DJM-400 from Pioneer. I mainly use my G1 and G2 series with the G2 and G3 sub. I heard that the G3 speakers have no low end.

  • Ok, I figured it out. This is totally strange, and i've never seen anything like that. Right below the 3rd input, there's a very small whole that you could totally miss! You have to use an object with a very small tip to insert it into the whole and switch from Line level to Mic!!!!! why not just make a good old mic/line switch and keep it simple!...Any ways it works the same, if you wanted to daisy chain the speaker to another...

  • Nice. This was my thinking. I have JBL car amps and they have delivered every day, never a problem... my 515S arrives tomorrow, can't wait.

Hey on an unrelated note, ever listen to any EDM?

  • I'm doing a show of how I have the 2 subs setup with my G2 250 watt sub. Check that vid out.. click the DJCD01 and that will take you that my channel.. and you can see the two vids I did on that setup. the 500 and the 250 sub together. Stay tuned.. I'll run that setup for the October 31 Rave Party I'm doing.

  • "Subwoo - fur" LOL

    Oh yeah... practice and enjoy!!

  • I have to keep true to my Southern roots. So I do have or like to keep my southern twang. He He.. I have a DJ voice once on the mic though... try not to sound too fony.

    -DJ CD

  • Awesome! I'll post back here at some point with my opinion on the sub. I like what I'm hearing about it... and your thumbs-up tells me it probably kicks some ass! Thanks dude, and take care

  • Just ordered one of these Saturday. Hoping it delivers the goods...

Thanks for the video. Any chance you could go into some detail about the quality of the sound, the lows, how does it compare to what you have heard in the past? Does it rattle your chest?

  • You'll like it I think. The Last Carshow I had, had a complaint about the bass they can feel it in the chest. I guess I'm immune to it since I'm around heavy sound a lot. From Professional Sound/Band Setups to my DJ gear.

  • You also have to know how to manipulate it a little to get the ultimate peak level to get you a great sound. For what it is, A powered subwoo-fur that is VERY lightweight. Comes in handy when having to tote your Subs up 3 flights of steps and NO ELEVATOR. Trust me ... you will be wanting these instead... rather than hurting yourself with heavier subs while this sub punches just as much bass. No amplifiers. Just plug in the XLRs and power.. ready to go. :)

  • @DJCD01

3 flights of stairs??? Omg, there's no way I'm lugging my subs up 3 flights of stairs for anybody! LOL!

  • @MakeItFunkyProds

Yeah... 3 flights... but these are only 65 lbs.. so it makes it alot easier vs. 150-200lbs subs.

    -DJ CD

  • Thanks Sam for the support!

  • Your right about that! These young pups don't know what you mean. Keep up the great job man!

  • I don't appreciate the fowl language. But I would be happy to explain. Jonathan aka DJ Tutor aka Ellaskins started the whole idea of a community of DJs. To express that your within that community of helping out other DJs and giving tips and things that you have learned over the years, you will say Practice and Enjoy. Meaning Practice the new tip or what you have learned and then Enjoy it. Alot of the tips.. most veteren DJs would know. But you have the younger djs that are just now learning.

  • With over 82 years of experience....u cant go wrong......go JBL

  • I love it that they finally came out with a powered 1000 watt peak sub. Really love it. May get a couple more eventually.

    --DJCD

  • Hey thats a nice sub, it definitely kicks out some sweet bass! Thats a good way of linking them up, you could daisy chain em forever. Very nice speaker (its JBL what else would you expect). thanks for the vid,

    DJ K-a-M

  • Thanks bro, For a powered speaker that kicks out 1000 watts peak, It's VERY Cool. All I ever have used in years past to present is the JBL Eon series coupled with Pioneer mixers and cd players. Gives me a quality, built like a tank speaker, of a sound that I can truely depend on. Yep... built in amps... so you don't have to worry with how much of watts or ohms your putting out. Just daisy chain them out. Think the most we have used at one time was 10 or 12 for an outdoor movie with a 25ft scrn

  • aha, mate nice 25ft screen, 12 eon's would have of been great. Do you only own the one sub? Take Care,

    DJ K-a-M

  • I'm showing how to setup for a 1 sub setup in the vid set. I have 2 of these new JBL EON 500 subs. I usually only would need to use one. Bigger Parties I use both, 2 500w cont 1000w pk subs w/ 2

15 Eon powered series top cabs. Had to rent the 25 ft.. But I do own a 15ft and some 10ft screens. I have a vid on the 15ft screen up on youtube.

  • The Large parties I use g2 subs on top of the jbl 500 eon subs. To give you something like a bass array. So that the bass will carry through a room of 250 or more. Also have the JBL EON 15s around the room on speaker poles extended out above head height. I'll do some more vids of the G2 sub and JBL eon sub together. To show what a top cab setup would look like with the new sub. The EON G2 sub is rated 250 watt

  • Powered speakers are lame, 2 cable to each speaker, thats 6 if you using a sub. Then you got to find AC in not you have to run them back to your system dont forget if you dont want to get sued you must tape all cords down, I rather carry those light amps have them hard wired and just plug 2 speaker cords, if running sub 1 extra cord finished in 1 min.

  • Powered speakers are the best thing that were invented for a mobile dj. With the Powered Speakers, its very hard to spike the speakers and blow them. I had non-powered speakers, someone that it would be cute to hold them mic directly at the speaker. Then no more speaker. Had to replace the horn. He was using my mic, extremely drunk, for karaoke. I don't have to worry with that with these powered speakers. I can have my whole basic DJ setup in 15min. Including cd cases, mixer, and computer.

  • All your doing is daisy chaining or loop through to the next speaker, with power speakers you can daisy chain all day long and not worry how much your amp is. I have to use 4 or more top cabs at times. As for wires, most of my applications I always have the sub or subs near me, with the top cabs pole mounted on the sub or tripoded elsewhere. May be a little over kill with xlrs but, again, I really don't have to worry about blowing these speakers. They are built like a tank.

  • thanks for that info SJ.

  • sounds like crap your bass is like a rubber band, that junk system. You talk to much on the wheels those are cheap and you will never use those dump locks on them.

  • I say in the vid that the bass will probably be distorted since I'm using a regular digital camera that happens to have an option for video. I covered the wheels because people wanted to show the caster wheels from the previous video. I answered one of the fine reasons why you would want to have wheels. The sub is exactly as wide as a standard door.. So you have a 1/4 inch clearance each side. I like to see you carry it through the door. Alot easier to roll it.

  • Compared to those import vids and 1,000s of other vids that I've seen trying to show how much bass they have. Its cool to see the mirror ratling, but you can't understand a word what the music is saying. I'm satisfied with my 1000 watt subwoofer which allows me to 2200 per show. I use the setup for clubs 5 times a week. I guess they like the sound and the bass there too. Hmmmm... must know my equipment and I think I can trust a brand like JBL. 9 times out of 10. Mobile Djs use them.

  • If your talking it being like a rubber band, the song is mixed that way that gives you 3 different levels of base. See the description.... its a DJ mix of Black Eyed Peas. Its the reason why I chose the mix is to show the different levels of bass.

  • No problem CJ. Its alot easier to roll through narrow doors than having to carry it. The sub is really light. I would love to get the new 500 series eons, because they are alot lighter than the original G1 and G2 JBL Eons. You can really suprise people with this sub as if your some sort of He-man carrying this big speaker without breaking a sweat. It would be funny to see a smaller build guy carrying one of these and get people's reaction from it. Thanks for watching!

  • thanks

  • Plenty of head room. I only had the volume up a 1/4 way up. Bass is set at 3 o' clock position. While I was first testing it out, turned it up little by little until I started hitting peak level setting. The way I have had it set is that it just bumps into the red. I played a Large reception hall just with 1 sub with 200 people. Worked great. Check the Military Ball Event I posted.

  • that sounds deep.. how far did u have that push up lights on ur mixer?? was there still lots of head room??
