  • Why does the witch have long red hair? I take exception to that!

  • The lady who played the witch was in her 70's at the time. She was born in 1897.

  • Gaack! You cut off the best part!

  • I remember this! And love it. I collect 16mm films, but sure don't own this one... however, one I'm looking for... you may relate... I think it's called Trogmoffy or Trogmofy. I can remember seeing it in the early '70's... about a big, fuzzy orange alien who learns to spell. Anyone remember this one?

  • 1. Why are they throwing away all that beautiful antique furniture?!?

    2. Why the heck are they allowing that old coot to live there? They'll never be able to evict her now!

    3. It'll cost as fortune to heat that old wreck in the winter. Those old houses are never insulated.

  • She made some "special" pancakes. I'll have what he's having LOL

  • man i love this!I'm having flashbacks from my early childhood on this one for sure.......me and my Best bud used to talk about this film as young adults

  • Amazon.com sells this DVD for $60. Insanity. :-(

  • Has anyone read the kiddie book this is based on? It has the pancake recipe, which is actually rather bulky in flour, not quite as smooth as you usually pour out. Oh, but the key ingredient is the chant in the recipe, of course. The book is called "Old Black Witch" and the witch is way more spastic in the book.

  • We had a witch when I was a kid.

  • 9:07 LSD pancakes

  • I never knew until now, if this memory was real or not. Remember it in grade school.

  • Actually, I remember this because it's subtitle was called 'Old Witch,' which I recall the characters from a Weekly Reader Book series. Because I loved the books, I was excited when the CBS Children's Film Festival aired it.

Always recalled this was one of the 'witch' based films where the witch was rather social than pulling pranks all the time.

  • Hermione Gingold plays the song,(The one I love belongs to somebody else.) Isnt it amazing what the human mind can recall from 38 years ago.

I seen this film only once while in grade school.

    Thank you for this posting.

  • I never saw this in grade school, but I love it, I can't stop watching it, and I wish I could rate it a million times!

  • It's amazing that this film made it everywhere in schools during the '70's! What a trip! That's for posting! I remember fridays were movie days and we were so glad we didn't have to sit threw a lecture! We saw this movie several times and, "Free to be, you and me" with Marlo Thomas and Harry Bellefonte. I got really sick of that one!

  • Anyone remember an old 16mm film from grade school about an old asian man living in a tent in the desert with kites inside? There's a kid in the film that comes over, and they both start flying the kites. I seen the film in grade school in the early 80's. Man, I'd love to find the name of that film.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I've been searching for this movie. I couldn't remember what it was called. My friend and I watched this several times in elementary school in the 70's. I did receive both clips. Where did you all view it? I saw it in Maryland.

  • I used to get her confused with Hermione Baddeley (Mrs. Naugatuck on Maude), and Marion Lorne (Aunt Clara on Bewitched) lol! LOVE this film!!!

  • Where's the beginning of the movie? I'd like to know, along with the witch, what the hell they are doing in her house too...

  • Yes, its the voice of Burgess Meredith.

CBS aired it back in 1976. I remember seen the preview of this movie and it scare the hell out of me.

Also they showed us this movie in our six grade class back in 1979.

  • See the YouTube clip "Winter of the Witch" with no clip number mentioned. That has the first segment of the film, less a few seconds at the start, and with some weird cuts to later moments of the film.

  • ... with the magic marker squiggles on the film. Man, that shit had been dormant in my brain for God knows, 34 years? The human mind is a mysterious thing. And speaking of mysterious, that witch is incredibly convincing. I doubt this film would be shown to little kids today, in today's politically correct landscape. Man, you blew my mind posting this. Where the heck did you unearth this? I ran an unreleased Rock footage label for 17 years. I thrive on obscure celluloid. What a time capsule gem!

  • Man, last night I was surfing the web for an obscure horror flick I saw when I was about 10 in '76 at the latest. I Googled "Devil's skin on thigh" and I unearthed the long forgotten "Blood On Satan's Claw". Then tonight, because the darkest, most long forgotten, corners of my mind had been opened last night, there came to me an vision & image I had not experienced since I was in the old elementary school cafeteria in what had to be no more than 2nd grade. The hallucinatory pancakes...

  • wasnt there a scene with some black dude eating the pancakes?

  • Did they show this to everyone in grade 2 at Hallowe'en? Gosh I loved it...

  • Was that Burgess Meredith that narrated this film?

  • Is the witch the Mrs. Slocombe actress on Are You Being Served?

  • No, the actress is Hermoine Gingold.

  • this was my schools favorite movie, we all loved it.

  • she put dope in that shit

  • Thank you so much!! I have been looking for this for years! Such good memories:)

  • I remember this from 2nd or 3rd grade. We all gathered in the gymnasium, sat on the floor, the lights went out, the movie started playing, and me and my girlfriend used to get a thrill out of holding hands in the dark. The best of times. Maybe this movie is what got me hooked on blueberry pancakes. Still addicted to them today. Thanks for posting. I, too, would love to see the ending where everyone comes for pancakes. That's the most memortable for me.

  • Click on the video response for the rest..

  • @Cryocide13 lol, exactly. we did the same thing. Del Rey Elementary School in Victorville, Calif. early 80's loved this movie.

  • O-M-G I always remembered this movie from grade school in the 80's

  • so whats the secret recipie?

  • I'm 39 and used to watch this in Kindergaten growing up in Philadelphia and i always think about this movie

thanks for posting it I'll show my 7yold sone the movies I used to watch growin up this one and The red Ballooon the original movie classics to me

  • Does anyone know of any torrents for this?

  • A bit of trivia: the mother in this video is an Israeli actress, and the second wife of famed method actor trainer Lee Strasberg. She inherited the rights to all of Marilyn Monroe's estate, so needless to say, she's a zillionaire.

  • I don't find many people who remember this. I think I saw it 2 or 3 times in elementary school. Thanks for posting this!

  • Hermione Gingold is so brilliant in this! Too bad this clip is not complete. The fun scenes are when the house (which still stands in Goshen, NY) is turned into a "pancake parlour"....the neighbours turn up in droves to get their fill of those psychedelic pancakes!

I do have this short film on DVD in its' entirety. Perhaps I'll post it if I get a chance!

  • I was about 6 or 7 when I saw this in about 1974 or so but I think it was on a Saturday Morning Special, I don't remember it being shown at school. Are there any recent pictures of this old house that can be found on the net that you know of? That would be very interesting. It would be great if you could post this film in its entirety for there is a complete Google video of this but it is not very good quality and the sound is not in sync with the video! Thanks for posting!

  • Amazing that you have this! I had looked for this and all I could find was on reel-to-reel. I was first shown this as a child at my elementary school and for some reason that video stuck in my head for all these years. Any chance you have the other half of the story, where the witch makes the pancakes for everyone the mother and son create a business out of it?

  • thank you for this! i loved this as a kid!

  • I've been looking for this video for over 20years. People thought I was crazy whn I would describe it.
