An outstanding song that hardly anyone knows!! An absolute favorite of mine, I send lyrics to people who don't know which way to go, what choice to make....he says it: you can be a hero, you can be a prisoner, the old "we captain our own ship" ideology. It's raw, gutsy, in uyour face, AND YET tender, comfortingh. I think it's brilliant.
I love your songs you have uploaded. I believe Steve was in his prime at this age of singing. His song choices and voice are so strong and mature. It's beautiful and your selections are good strong MELODIES for remembering him and giving us time to think of his life now while missing him.
But blessing all time that he was here on this earth with me and I am thankful and that is enough... And the rest is his he has given me something wonderful everyday of my life. His voice and music. Thanks.
An amazing voice! I am so hungry for more of Steve Perry's music. I just wait and wait. Please someone in his organization read all of these comments on ALL of these videos. We are begging you! Bring Steve back. Please Steve, share your voice with us again.
A very well written song. Street Talk is an awsome album. "Oh Sherrie came out the summer after my Sr year of HS and I purchased 'Steet Talk". "Running Alone" was kind of a theme song for me since I went far from home for college and away from my high school sweet heart whom broke up with me right before I left.
19dave64 thank you for bringing us all of these songs.Steve puts his whole soul in every song he sings.I really want him to sing again,I miss his voice so much,I know he would sound amazing today.2010. Irene
I have part of the lyrics from this song tattooed on my back....the words are the truth and Steve Perry has touched my life in such an amazing way. This is my favorite Steve Perry song ever.
This is one of my favorite songs. I love how steve is the master of disguise. His voice can go from extremely high, high, low, soft, raspy like this song which is great, sweet and sexy. It doesn't matter how he sings a song it will be great. I love you and miss you steve
I can not get over how much I absolutely love this song. It may be my favorite song of all time. Wait. Did I just say that? It's a toughy because I seriously love 99% of the songs this heavenly voice sings... but yes, yes... I love this one so deeply. The lyrical content alone is amazing. Add Steve's unbelievably sexy soulfulness, and well... it's an orgasm for my ears. *snort* I'm gonna go now...

Street Talk album, I love it. Running Alone, Capture By The Moment, Oh Sherrie, just to mention few in this album. Every track in this album is amazingly good. I got it a month ago and it is in my I pod now. I play it when I go to the gym. It gives me will to finish my workout.
I have not heard this song for so so so long! I used to have the 'Street Talk' album on cassette, bought it when I was still in my teens. Definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album. Brings loads of memories...thanks for sharing 19dave64! Greetings from Singapore!
just got "street talk" omg! awesome! every song....so not journey....so stevie!!! he is sooooooooooooooooo wonderful...eventually i will get hooked on "ftlosm" (which i also just purchased), but i just can't get enough of "street talk"
PS: I have lost all sense of self-respect and I have decided that I am going to use Youtube and propose - even if I have never met him! (Youtube-email order husband: Steve Perry! ;-)...)
Multi-talented, handsome, deeply spiritual, kind-hearted and humble ... oh yeah and did I forget? I think he must have some type of "Babe-magnet" actually genetically implanted in his DNA! Still at age 60 we are all so totally, madly and yes fantatically head-over-heals for him. I do not think he should appear in concert ever - the poor guy would be mobbed!
This is such a wonderful song! It is so uplifting.
Everyone's a prisoner, holding their own key!! How true that is!!! And it's amazing how just a few kind words changes everything! Suddenly, I'M not afraid of running alone! I'm not afraid, my sweet friend!
I always wait for Journey's videos to be shown way back when Video Hit Parade and seeing him sing .. it brings back memories .. but times change , seasons change but what Steve has given to the Music industry is never forgotten , i admire arnel P alot but steve is the orginal, darn im emoting again LOL
Although Faithfully is and always will be my favorite song ever, this has to be Steve Perry's finest vocal performance. Is there a singer out there who could be regarded as possibly the greatest singer maybe Freddie Mercury but quite debatable
This song is so stunningly beautiful but SO sad. It really reminds me of my current situation being extremely alone and single. I literally started crying the other day listening to this. Sometimes I just have to turn it off. Just the longing. Please reply and bring me up my friends. God Bless
"Being alone" is not the same as "being lonely", but loneliness is a feeling that many times is experienced by those who are alone.
I draw strength from this song because I'm reminded that when someone is "alone", many times it is by a choice that was made, and is - of itself - not necessarily a bad thing.
Feeling lonely is an emotion, and that is something that we can help each other with, if we make the effort to do so.
This song is inspiration to those of us (like me) who have difficulty making changes in life. I especially like the phrase about "everyone's a prisoner, holding their own key".

JRNYMAN, You're right this is a very powerful song. It is also one my favorites. Steve is so good when he sings songs like this his emotions and heart come thru. Only he can do this.
I'm a forty-one year old man who rediscovered this song after almost two decades, and it makes me tear up like you wouldn't believe. I remember an interview back around the release of STREET TALK in which Perry said this was his favorite song on the album. I think this is the most emotionally and vocally powerful song he has ever done. It is really a tragedy that this song is so overlooked.
This is one of the most underated songs ever. Such poetry, and the brilliant vocals of SP...very nice. Just a wonderful song that still brings a tear to my eye. Its nice to see others appreciate it too.
This song is just too emotional for me to listen too. It literally bought tears to my eyes the other day. And the children's voice's makes it so much more. That gives me hope. It seems that God had it arranged that I purchass Street talk album in my most lonely difficult time.
That MAY indeed have been His plan for you. Remember, God promises that he will give us more than we can bear.
I have recommended this song to others who are lonely, as I have also been...it tells you that you DO have the will to survive. You ARE stronger than you think! You will make it!
"God promises that he will NOT give us more than we can bear"!!!
What a crucial difference that is! What a terrible place for me to omit a word! If THIS error doesn't get me to "ALWAYS proofread BEFORE posting", then I don't know what will!
He just gets better and better. I have always loved his voice. I would like to hear what his voice sounds like today. I know it has to be better than ever!
All of Steve's solo performances are so deep and moving. You can so feel the true spirit of Steve Perry in all of his solo music. I love this song, and well I love all of his songs.
Great Post thank you 19dave64. This man called Steve Perry can really sing, I use to listen to Journey many years ago, I have just re-discovered Steve Perry, He sounds better than ever.
Great Post thank you 19dave64. This man called Steve Perry can really sing, I use to listen to Journey many years ago, I have just re-discovered Steve Perry, He sounds better than ever.
I looked for this song for ages and found it thanks to Dave. It reminds me growing up when Journey and Steve Perry was always on in our house. I have lovely memories. Steve has the best vocals in the world. Beautiful.
You're right: his mother's name was Mary. But do you mention that because it's in the song? MANY people make the mistake of thinking it he sings, "Oh, oh sweet MARY, I call on you now". He actually says MEMORIES. :)
@JRNYman You're correct, it's "Oh, sweet memories", NOT Mary. Somewhere in the children's laughter one says "can Stevie come out & play?" but I CAN"'T HEAR IT! This is one of my very favorite Perry tunes, should have been a single. Message is brilliant, fearless. I SO wish I could WATCH him sing it on one of the 20+ DVDs I've collected. I was thrilled when, in a radio interview just last Dec. 2010, he listed it as one of his personal favoriites, as well as "Good Morning, Girl"--oh, me too!
I guess to each his own, after 2 years im still not convinced they sound 'endearing' but I still love the vocals, great album. One of the first I listened to all the way through. Have a happy new year fellow perry fan!
The children's voices bring a haunting quality to the song, but the echo-effect was - to me - like being pulled through a tunnel back in time, sucked back into a long-ago memory of childhood. The eerie feeling came as a chill of self-awareness of "innocence lost" with the passage of time. There's no 'going-back', no restoration of the naivete of a child. But that does not mean we are defeated.
Even if we ARE damaged, we can persist, perservere, survive and thrive - even IF alone.
Awesome song I was actually just listening to this song in my car like five minutes ago and singing my ass off. lol. Great post thank you 19dave64 STEVE PERRY ROCKS!!!
Stop running alone Steve! come back to your fans!

"Can Steve come out to play?"
I think it's charming. An anthem to the only child.

ZACHLIFE,
Oddly enough, it was the inclusion of the children's voices that I found to be so endearingly attractive and different about this song.
To each his own, I guess.

I guess to each his own, after 2 years im still not convinced they sound 'endearing' but I still love the vocals, great album. One of the first I listened to all the way through. Have a happy new year fellow perry fan!

ZACHLIFE,
The children's voices bring a haunting quality to the song, but the echo-effect was - to me - like being pulled through a tunnel back in time, sucked back into a long-ago memory of childhood.
