Many thanks for this video on the Xantia suspension bushes. My Xantia has been off the road for 6 months since failing its MOT for these bushes. As I have retired I can't afford the garage prices for a replacement arm. Your video has given me the incentive to 'have a go' and just replace the bushes myself. Had my Xantia for 10 years and its only done 68,000 miles. Thanks again.
Hi i have a Citroen c5 with the same setup and i need to replace the lower ball joint any information on this please i do have the proper tool for the job i understand these ball joints are very tight i was thinking of letting a garage do the work but i would like to have a go my self i have plenty of experience working on cars and the suspensions and in the past have replaced the suspension strut on an xantia but never done a c5
I have done a lower suspension ball joint. It was a very difficult job. Tightly secure the arm with racket straps so it wont move when you turn the joint. The joint is peened in two places make sure these are straightened before you undo it. You will also need a 2-3 meter extension pole to help undo the 250lb torque joint . It will require all your weight and strength to shift it but it will shift. Replace the heat shield, or it will burn the new joint
putting these arms back on is NOT just a matter of putting in place and bolting up...the arm has to be in normal ride height position and then the bolts tightened otherwise the bushes will be under a lot extra strain and wear out in no time...this is probably why they have to be replaced so often, yet the originals last a fair while...haynes manual roughly says how to do it...shocking design tho
@thierryanna I have just bought 3 spheres and will be changing them shortly. I will video the event and post it. I am just looking for the best tool to do the job, then I will get started.
@bunnybr Sphere change was very easy job. Used a chain wrench and hammer. The back needs to be loosened while pressurised then depressurised before removing. Take care to support the sphere when removing as it can damage the alloy casing threads making it difficult to catch the thread properly when putting on the new one. The back middle needs the pipe removed before attempting. The front just needs depressurising and unscrewed. Dont tighten them too much when reinstalling.
Many thanks on your video. Very helpful
