PSPs can download legit games too, and have been doing it for years. Both PSP and PSP Go will continue to play the same downloaded games. You don't have to use UMD if you don't want to (for BOTH models, not just one). So if you don't want to read UMD, you don't have to, even on a device with a UMD in it.

Have you ever downloaded games from Sony's web site into your current PSP? If you did you would know these games are protected from copying - and are tied to your hardware. Sony are offering you a chance to buy stuff online with this PSP Go, but giving you no other options. You cannot share games by lending them to someone. You cannot resell games. You can't do the things you do with UMD.
I think that the psp is better than the ds because the graphics are so much better, the design of the ds is sleek, as is the psp, I'm leaning toward the psp, there aren't as many games, but they are so much better, not to mention the fact that ds games brake so much easier, but in the end it is your choice. I don't know if that helped any at all, but if it did, I'm glad to help.

Sony figured out (much later than they should have) that UMD is dead. They are bailing out of that sinking ship and moving on.
The change-over to digital vs disc should improve the PSP's biggest weak point; its battery life. Let's hope that is the case. Add in Bluetooth and the other bells and whistles and it's not hard to imagine why they went in this direction.

it looks ugly! It's obviously not aimed at hardcore gamers, with shorter games that you can just pick up and play for 15 min. 16gb ain't much these days. This is much better than 3000. This way you no longer have case's umd's and loads of memory sticks sitting around and can be lost easily. This new design is a very good idea! Less mess, less crap to buy for it. No more having to store everything in cases or even having to go to the store anymore, just buy it at the playstation store online. I am going to get rid of my 3000 and get this instead. I am more than sure they will move the current UMD games to the download section at the online store.

The Perks of the PSP Go:
-Small Screen with same amount of pixels as the Normal PSP will make the image look sharper then normal PSP's.
-Because it doesnt have to read a UMD, and instead is just accessing a flash drive, load times will be faster.
-Lighter and Smaller
-Provides room for Sony to make a PSP Go slim game that is larger then 1.8GB (thats what a UMD can hold) which could mean better games
-It look awesome.

3.8inch screen on Go versus 4.3 inch on current PSP screen doesn't sound like enough to double battery life, even in my wildest fantasies.

Sony figured out (much later than they should have) that UMD is dead. They are bailing out of that sinking ship and moving on.
The change-over to digital vs disc should improve the PSP's biggest weak point; its battery life. Let's hope that is the case. Add in Bluetooth and the other bells and whistles and it's not hard to imagine why they went in this direction.

same i staying to mine but might move on to the 3000 until the GO gets hacked.
they should at least make it better like a second analog stick, tough screen and ability to store old UMD's to the GO using a UMD slot or converter that makes it digital.
In other words Sony just messed itself up and if Microsoft makes a portable Xbox Sony will have to retire.

for people that want to know when this comes out it was announced it would come out october 1, 2009 at E3 where people could play on the pspgo with the little big planet demo for the psp the demo was only availble at E3 so dont ask were to get the demo because you cant but they might realese it when the game gets close to its realese date wich i dont know when.

wow i can see some major fail in the sales figures on this one. WHY the hell doesnt sony listen to its consumers? psp is always going to be a sub par gaming system without the right joystick! no one will take it seriously as a game system without the second joystick and no one will take it seriously as a media system unless it has killer storage and wifi browsing capability! sorry sony one giant chunk of fail right there

it looks ugly! It's obviously not aimed at hardcore gamers, with shorter games that you can just pick up and play for 15 min. 16gb ain't much these days. It doesn't seem like it could rival an iphone or shuffle, which is the direction i think sony will head with the handheld in the future. I own both original psp and ds, and I'd like to update them to newer models, but none of them impress me enough!

look like Sony took tips from Nintendo, have more then one device on the market for everyone. So the 3000 are for people who don't have a computer to download games and the Go is for peps like me(a tech geek) or the Apple users(who download everything), it would been another bad move and they would've lost a big %'s of gamers who like hardcopies instead of softcopies.Plus it's over price cause they losing $ on the ps3, so Go will make the $ that the ps3 is losing cause Go is cheeper made.Smart 1

This is much better than 3000. This way you no longer have case's umd's and loads of memory sticks sitting around and can be lost easily. This new design is a very good idea! Less mess, less crap to buy for it. No more having to store everything in cases or even having to go to the store anymore, just buy it at the playstation store online. I am going to get rid of my 3000 and get this instead. I am more than sure they will move the current UMD games to the download section at the online store.
