Is it just me... or does one of the two vocal takes sound like Varz was sick or something? It is obviously off at some points and it sounds weird.

It sounds like he took two takes and spliced them together (One with piano ,the other with guitar). Both of those instruments have a tendency of drowning out vocals, so he's probably singing pretty loud.

no ur way off. its actually A flat, F minor, D flat, E flat. rivers plays mostly tuned down a half step so the chords in that tuning are A, f sharp minor, D and E.
