what hapens when someone crashes you from behind? and what about high temperatures over 50 C during the summer when the car is parked under the sun for a lot of hours? is it the same thing as having a normal tank ? (unleaded)
@3psaria ...all lpg cars have a safty valves on the tanks that seal in the event of a rear crash ..all tanks have around 20% space for the gas to expand in hot temps' ..and you still have a normal sized petrol tank ...overall ..do you think the UK goverments would allow LPG vehicles on the roads 'if' there was any extra risk to health and life as a result of an crash in a gas powered vehicle ?tests have proved lpg tanks to be safer and stronger than thin steel /plastic petrol tanks
@3psaria Petrol tanks made of plastic many times 5 times higher risk to blow up than gas tanks made of extremely strong steel. 50 C? the gas does not even start in dual-fuel cars until the temperature reaches 40 in the engine.
@avro007 Hi ...these are the figures ..27 litres fills the LPG tank ..takes you on average 280-290 miles (ive managed 315) 27ltrs at 70p =£18.90 ..now £18.90 worth of petrol gets you 14 ltrs of petrol (at £1.35)..14 ltrs is 3.11 gallons ..3.11gallons into 280 miles is 90.03 MPG !!..more if you drive gently ...see our web site for more details eco-cars. net
@jonathanecoman I was working on what was stated in the video 37litre tank 250-260 miles per tank full of lpg - 250 divided by 37= 6.75 miles per litre = approx 30.4mpg.
Using your revised figures 280 miles divided by 27 litres=10.37 miles per litres= approx 46.6 mpg working on 4.5 litres is appox = to one imperial gal.
@avro007 running on LPG gives you a little less than on petrol as of the energy in a litre of gas is ~10% less than in petrol. 280+ miles per 27 litres is 47+ mpg (UK) if you add this 10% you are there at 53 so that the 60 mpg maximum comes down to 55mpg max but you pay for the fuel equivalent of 90+ mpg.
Dutch research institute, in 1998 concluded that the safety of modern LPG vehicles was marginally better than for gasoline vehicles. Other recent studies by the Belgian research organisation DNV, have demonstrated that the risk of tank rupture is greater for petrol than for LPG. Many years of operation worldwide have demonstrated the integrity and safety of LPG vehicle tanks...AND do you think the UK government would allow these lpg vehicles on the roads IF there was the SMALLEST risk??
i got a Toyota Aygo and I live in Holland so i dont pay road taxes. I have the car since end october 2009. I bought it new and i stil think its a fantastic car.
260 miles on a full tank of LPG? That doesnt seem to be great at all, compared to a full tank of petrol in my 107 that can do 430 miles. When you were working the MPG out were you driving it like Nigel Mansell or something? lol
Hi the cost is around £1600 inc vat ...any petrol car can be converted ..always ask before converting as some engines have valve problems when running on lpg.
Why bother converting this size of car, the breakeven point will be beyond the life of the car!
I comment as a driver of a 1996 3947cc Discovery LPG since March 1999, 127k later and the engine oil still comes out clear at a service change, and the heads have never been off, and it has the original cam shaft. Land Rover camshafts need to be changed at 60k, but with no fuel contamination of engine oil, the mechanicals last longer.
So why the the third party oil lube system, LPG does the job?
Hello Jonathan, I have a Toyota Yaris D4D TR got it on November 2009 , runs on diesel, This is my first car and I wonder if I can do this fitting of LPG, How much is it? Will I lose my year warranty or any warranty with toyota? Thank you!
@jonathanecoman not true, there is a charged system available for diesel engines, using a mix of 30% diesel and 70% LPG, and the good news is the power output of the diesel engine is improved by 20%+
Hi again ..I've heard of these systems ..but yet to hear of these being widely fitted to diesel engines..and yet to hear of a successful lpg/diesel conversion
yes there are some that do ..most use a vaporizer which does need to 'warm' the gas in order to 'vaporise it ...some liquid injection systems do not need a vaporizer..and these are able to 'start' on lpg from cold....liquid injection systems tend to be more expensive.
Hi No problems re freezing up in the UK ..it will happen at about -30 ..so no problem in the UK !
The maintenance is a lpg service every 12500 miles or 1 year ..costs around £120..and that is to replace a small filter in the vaporizer ..the injectors are maintenance free.
Nice little car , But 1 serious flaw regarding the LPG conversion. I certainly wouldn't have the LPG filler located on the rear bumper like that. That's the 1st crunch zone in the most common impact area impact. Making a simple replacement bumper a nightmare after an accident. Also a great risk ov the LPG escaping through a crushed / Damaged filler. A sort of Mini-Hindenburg in my opinion This would be better fitted to the side panel around the rear light cluster out of harm's way.
Thanks for the comment ..we can place the filler anywhere the customer would like ..the back of the brass filler has a flexible pipe to the tank ..so if the bumper should be pushed inwards ..the tank will remain sealed ...if it does leak the system is designed to release the gas through a safety valve ..(also in case of a fire as well)
We feel it looks neater on the rear bumper..and our customers agree!!
Hi Also forgot to mention that the filler has a valve AND the lpg tank has a valve ..so any leakage would only be from the pipe to the tank from the filler ....the LPG remains sealed in the tank in the event of an accident
thanks that explains it! =) but will the modification do in the yaris sedan?? and most importantly, is it safe to have an LPG tank in the back of you car? Great clip mate! very informative!
yes the yaris could be converted ..the tank fits into the spare wheel well ..and the lpg tanks are much stronger than a petrol tank ..so will not split in an accident. If there was a risk the UK government would not allow them on the road!
I've been running lpg on my 6 cylinder Ford for 3 years, 60 litre tank will do 500km for $40 fillup, there is no drop in performance or mechanical problems, in Australia the govt. subsidised private vehicles to $2000 for a fitout, out of pocket expenses $700. have a switch for lpg or petrol. All taxis in Australia run on lpg and most buses also, makes sense.
looks like great value against the current prices of diesel and petrol, but are there any downsides to running on LPG i.e. reduced performance, greater servicing requirements?
Hi no downsides ..just lower running costs ...the drop in performance is very small ..you'd not notice it at all.Every 12500 mile a small lpg filter is recommended to be changed..cost around £100 feel free to call in and test drive our demo car ..

@burkezillar Suppose the price factor works in here, lpgs cheap as chips isnt it?
MrMigs08 1 year ago
@MrMigs08 LPGS is cheaper than petrol, but not as much anymore. I think a litre of LPG is about 70p, a litre of unleaded where I am is 131p
burkezillar 9 months ago
@burkezillar Still a 61p difference may equal out the lower milage of the LPG, i suppose both work though!
I like the 107, havent been on one on the road yet, but the engine sounds very nice revvved at a stand still, sporty too!

With the current systems such as Liquid Injection and Vapour Injection, rkw loss is only about 5rkw!
