  • Thanks for the live recording.

  • awesome

  • I remember hearing this live on WBMX or WGCI in the late 70's in Chicago. Louis Johnson is easily the funkiest bass player I have ever heard and that comes from hearing and buying hundreds of funk LP's from back in the day.

  • this little lick on the bass by louis johnson, has to be on of the funkiest grooves on the bass ever!! take lessons and see if you can even keep track in your heads how many times he hits the strings in this. awesome possum 69!!!

  • too bad there's no live video - sounds great though!!

  • @agamemnon1 There actually was one of the Get the funk out ma face solo, but i can't find it anymore!

  • @agamemnon1 There are lots of live videos of them..just look to the right, here. Also quite a few videos of Louis

...just look to the right or do a search for him & them. : )

  • i wish I could find a bass player like this

  • way too fonkay!

  • phat

  • cool

  • bajo asesino!

  • mad bass skills

  • Grande!!! Scuola Stanley Clarke!!!

Grazie da Roma baci baci !!!°o.O ɐuuǝd ǝddǝsnıb O.o

  • Louis Johnson My Farorite bass player. Pick it like you like it ! Alain.

  • Oh My Goddess!!! This is indeed what "floetry" is all about, I grew up listening to these guys, and was madd about it then. And will always admire the funk-n-talent that clearly paved the way for music today. Absolutely Fabulous!!!

  • Right ! I agree!

  • The Brothers Johnson... yeeeaa!!

  • kametak, where did you get this from, was it one of there CDs>

  • Too bad theres no movie with it

Really geat sound like it very much

  • I am sitting at my desk now wanting to cry. This bass solo is sooo funky! I wish the music today could sound as good and authentic as this!

  • It can't ask Puffy and Kanye, oooops forget they can't play, read, or write music.

    Sy-

  • I love bass solos. makes me which I had talent with anything other than MIDI.

  • lol

  • Nice.

    Yay for bass solo

  • Ain't We Funkin' Now...yeah!! uh huh

  • Oh yeah!!!

    One of the best.

  • Lewes Johnson's performance is very powerful.

It is a performance different from Larry Graham.

I feel wonderful as the pioneer of this performance method also by both.

  • the master

  • smoothoperator this is the baddest bass player in the music ind. u go cuz

  • Yeah...An inspiration for al generations of bassists

  • He's slapping that thing like it owes him mone!

  • lets hear gene simmons do this

  • Sounds like another incredible performance to me!!!!!!I guess I don't have the time to pick out the piano, drums, chimes etc to try and determine the maker, but that's cool that you do.

  • I have loved this from the start and will continue to do so. Still, a lot of times hammering and plucking sounds spectacular, but sometimes it's also being used to cover up the lack of technique. If you listen to Jaco Pastorius, he shows the bass sounds contains so much more.

  • As far as technique you should listen to Louis play bass on "Smilin' on ya" / "Light up the Night" album or "Street Walk" / "Blam album." On "Love is" / "Right on Time" album He plays bass, lead, & 6 & 12 string acoustic. Quincy Jones would not have utilized his talents on so many projects if his technique were lacking in any way. Michael McDonald seemed to like his technique for his rendition of "I keep forgettin'"

  • That's an odd statement since slap/pop is a technique unto itself. As amazing as Jaco was, he virtually never slapped, so you're kind of comparing apples and oranges.

I'd agree that Louis' performance here is a bit rough around the edges, but the guy has proven many times over what an amazing player he is.

  • Whateva the brand, tha brotha can take a k-mart bass and funk it out.

  • I always say, if you can't play anything, then you can't play anything.

  • This is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard.

  • Leo Fender actually took the guts out of Louis' Stingray, and beefed it up to make his sound and thumpability more present...

  • It IS a Stingray!

  • sounds like a StingRay to me
