  • i dont know this song is so depressing but the happy depression...if you know what i mean..

  • Favourite instrumental piece of all time

  • Loooooooove this tune!!! fuckin guy makes love to that guitar man. Epic.

  • Funk's best LP! It's a hell of a song to start an LP with and then ya get Super Stupid, Hit it and quit it, etc. And "Mother Earth is [still] pregnant... for [we'all] have knocked Her up! I have tasted the magots in the mind of the universe! I was not offended for I knew [we] must rise above it all or drown in our own shit!!"

    Peace!

  • No one, I mean No One TOUCHES THIS!!!! I to have heard many versions of this Piece and THIS IS IT Eddie Hazel Emotional Blitz!!!! His sound will live for ever as well as his Spirit!!!!!

  • @alexbruce9 Sorry but this is not Eddie Hazel playing. It's Michael Hampton. Mike performed the live versions of this song when PFUNK was on tour.

  • @s4ujxm Hmmmm, thank you. All info I have lead me to believe it was Eddie Hazel, I know Michael Hampton plays it with Eddie Hazel on some of the shows and it sounds like they are tripping over eachother.. First time the piece got my attention was on a Widespread Panic Live show. And I grew up w/ PFunk. Go Figure.

  • @alexbruce9 I hear what you are saying but with all do respect I disagree. I too grew up with PFUNK (51). This was a live recording in Monroe Louisiana back in 1978. Also the One nation under the groove album gives credit to Mike for his performance of this song. This was done right after Glenn Goins death.

  • @s4ujxm Cool, Good to know the correct information. (56)

Still an "Emotional Blitz" no matter who plays it. PS Did find a better version of the piece last night, I corrcted myself on the review.

  • @alexbruce9 It's all good I like the live version from 1978 in Houston. Mike was in rare form killing maggot brain. Eddie is the man I know but I stay away from comparing the two. It's like having two kids. You love them both but each have their own gift. No one can take that away. Eddie and Mike have different styles and both have contributed to the evolution of PFUNK.

  • Eddie Hazel for ever... Rest in peace Eddie...

  • Too deep

  • the mood and feel of this song is an example to all music.... even without any lyrics it's bursting with emotion.

  • Maggot brain>all

  • Great version, inspiring!

  • tis is a song that will play throgh the genreations

  • This is 1 of the best out of 2 vers. of MG I've heard.

This one is the extra 33rpm(45 size) record from the, "One

    Nation Under A Groove" album.

I wish I still had it.

  • does anyone the video of this one?

  • Hi, can anybody tell me wether this is Eddie Hazel or Michael Hampton playing? I know that the original is from Hazel and i love it(actually prefere it to this one), but me and a buddy were just wondering, cause this was the first album Hampton worked with Funkadelic on, so i thought maybe they put Hamptons version on the album to show that he is nearly as good as Hazel. Really interested in an answer to that, thanks ;)

  • @Masao85 This is Mike Hampton Live from Monroe, LA. in 1978. This is not the first album Mike worked on. He join them in 1975. He started playing Maggot Brain live around the end of 1977/78 time frame.

  • MAKE LOVE ASSHOLES..!!!!! OMG IM SO FUCKING HYPED... I DUNNO.. PUT UR DICKS IN THE WALL... GO FUCK !! DONT JUST SIT AND PLAY XBOX 360 ALL DAY.. GO CUM.. GO .. FUCK YOURSELVES. THIS MUSIC is making me .. craaaaaseeeeee!!!!!

  • Wow 200 CD's gone Brother that hurt's me. Damm.

  • for those who are interested this version was included as a 12" in the One Nation Under A Groove LP in the UK

  • has anyone ever heard the guitar version they did of sweet love by Anita Baker? awesome guitar cover. But this live version seems to have all the guitar effects and distortion just right i saw him play it at the house of blues and it seemed like too much chorus was in the song but this version is awesome

  • this is the best version live i ever heard now if someone has the video somewhere

  • I love the ending to this song. they should have let him keep playing.

  • @Blaquemajeek me too

  • Its really just a guitar solo, but its so Damn, damn Good..!

This version is the Best One:-)

  • Hi Markie eve eard the story of the original cut of this piece? actually quite touchinh ;-)

  • I never heard the story of the original cut. What was it? I read in the cd booklet that george clinton told him to play as if he just heard that his mother died and then he found out that she was alive again. Am I close? I like this version the best

  • @Blaquemajeek thats what I read too, but when I heard the song years before I read that I always felt like that is what he was conveying through his guitar. It sounds like he's pleading to God to give her back to him.

  • @smashface31 Yeah, It made me cry when I first heard it. Because I FELT the music and ironicly it did make me think of death. But not in a morbid way. And I was shock to read that that was the emotion they were actualy going for.

  • @Blaquemajeek You said it just right. You FEEL the vibe. Funkadelic are masters of their craft.

  • @Blaquemajeek Sorry i never replied to you, but what Blaquemajeek said is the closest answer to you and exactly what i read as well!...

I come back and listen to this particular solo many times in a year and it never fails to amaze me still.....

Its gonna Stick until i die:-))))

  • best version!

  • The live versions are always excellent ;-) Wish I had seen the original 'mothership' ;-)

  • I do love this version but it just doesn't feel quite the same without Eddie Hazel playing it. Hampton is pretty amazing but it is still just like a cover version of a piece of somebody else's soul.

  • @markuscc This is Eddie Hazel playing on this track it comes from the cd one nation under a groove this was a live track added to the studio tracks. You gotta listen to this with headphones like I did in High School. LOL

  • @TheBigShel I can guarantee you that this is Michael Hampton playing and not Eddie Hazel on this version. I do also listen on headphones, I have a sweet set of Sony V6's that I bought for drumming and they sound incredibly accurate.

  • @markuscc Mark you are probably right after I listened to this I went on line and looke at a couple of discographys seems he was in and out of the group quite a bit around this time. Do you happen to know when this particular track was recorded?

  • @TheBigShel I used to have the bootleg of the live show that this was on years ago but it was stolen out of my car along with about 200 other cds. I tried to find it again but couldn't find it anywhere. I would love to know what the exact concert was so i could try to find it again.

  • Now this is what the Fcuk I'm TOMBOUT MAYNE!

  • ;-) The mothership is on the return journey bro ;-)

  • Woah, I like this a lot, kind of reminds me of Robin Trower.

  • Bro you gotta check out the driving force behind this, George Clinton, responsible for Funkadelic, Parliament(among others)and a great electro/funk solo career still going today, google the mothership connection, youll love it ;-) and lots more to come

  • George Clinton! That makes sense.

    Damn good music.
